But, if you want to see a show like you did when you saw the boyz and Jerry (God rest his soul) go see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers......Just did 20 shows at the Filmore.....saw 18 of them, WOW! ____________________________________________________ Will you come with me? Top starter Phish Shows
I've seen tons of phish shows from 1992 to 2002. I averaged about 30 shows a year. Everyone has their own favorites but here is what I would recommend to get started. First off, in my opinion for new phans I recommend the sexy stuff first. When I'm trying to turn a kid who has never heard any Dead on to the band I always start with shows from 77 & 78. These shows will hook the new fan and then they can start to seek out the gems from other years. I feel the same way about Phish. I always recommend shows from 99 to new phans. This year and 98 were full of funky jams and catchy tunes. I don't remember the exact dates but I can give you the tour, venue and year for the shows. All fall tour (1-4) 1) Hampton 99 any night. 2) MCI Center Arena 99 (D.C.) 3) The Pyramid 99, (TN) 4) Nasau Coliseum 99 (NY) both nights 5) Jazz Fest New Orleans Spring tour 97 or 96. Can't remember the exact year but they only played the Jazz Fest one time. 6) U.S. Air Arena 97 (MD)

yeah, iz... i had to go slightly off the DTB thread, to list the last phish show... not that they also had many other notable sets... but that last show (i have a copy), when trey gets kinda emotional about the whole strange trip that was the phish... pretty memorable. (EDIT- also, don't want ya to think i'm disrespectin' the DTB either... they be jammin' too.)

Let me first start off by saying Phish is one of my favorite bands ever (After Zepp, Primus and GD) and for a short time 98-04 they WERE my GD in terms of the whole tour-family thing......I went on my first tour in 98 (Drove to Portland from Chi-Town) and I respect them all as amazing musicians....BUT TREY MADE ME KINDA MAD!!!!! You say you broke up Phish because the bad drugs were taking it's toll (Thats what you get for smoking coke and doing smack) but yet you continued to do bad drugs after the band was done....The arrest was funny....But sad....That chapter of my life is closed in my mind...I saw some of the sickest shows ever, but that time has passed....I know there will be the reunion...Will I go?, who's to say...I can't even remember the last time I dusted off the collection...In my mind, the band splitting up was the best thing ever because I was able to go back to the Dead with a whole new attitude...Im older now and the Dead just makes so much more sense to me at 29 than when I was 14 and got my first copy of 77 Cornell.... Phish will someday return in my life (I have like 90 shows on CD) but Im SOOOO Grateful im buried in the Dead right now....... Dead to the Core www.myspace.com/bongwizard

yeah, it's true, it seems the drugs have taken their toll... not ONLY on phish, but on a few other bands as well. but, to me, i just hear the music... forget the drug habits, the egos, etc... i didn't see a phish show until '96... by then, many hardcore fans were saying they had "sold-out". i have a few hundred phish shows archived- from the 80's to the last one... i still think my favorite era was around '95-'97 ("sold-out" or not), it seems they really started jamming things out about that time. i never did care as much for the phish lot scene... way too much "ME" attitude among a lot of the young kids. the dead scene was always SOOO much cooler. but, the music was still what drew me in. trey can jam... can't argue with that.

Not ENTIRELY off topic, as there was Oysterhead (and as I recall I have Aud to thank for sending me their first show). I have to say I do not understand Les Claypool one bit, but I sure do like him.

i saw my first phish show in 1995 in gainesville, Fl. After the grateful Dead stopped touring, Phish became my new home away from home. Sure the two lot scenes differed...the dead scene being more mature and laid back, and the phish scene being more young, sometimes rude, but often rockin. Most people (my peeps) were there for the music...some wern't. The 11/02/96 coral sky Crosseyed and Painless>Antelope firmly set the hook deep into my cheek...and i was pulled in hook, line, and sinker. Over 30 shows later and i'm still hooked. All the Lakewood shows in Hot Lanta from 97(ghost),98(roses are free, moma dance, fluffhead,DWD, YEM>Running with the devil encore),99(2 day 4th of july meltdown),00(2 night run),and 03 were sick. Oak Mountain 99 was big pimpin. Big cypress was unreal...had to be there to understand...it was epic...many dreams came true for many many people down there. my last phish shows were the 4 night miami new years run from 2003...the 30th being especially awesome with the Epic 1st set opener to the P-funk second set...diaper and all I miss my phishin'...hopefull trey will pull it together and get back on the train! There are few bands out there these days that can even touch what phish did...going to shows just isn't the same...

phish-related: ever heard of Smokin' Grass? a burlington VT bluegrass/newgrass band, with some of the guys being friends with some of the phish guys... i have a show or two where mike gordon sits in with them... they have a few cd's out, they used to come thru southern WV and stay with a friend of mine while they were in town. they also have ties to jamie masefield and gordon stone... i told doug perkins (their guitar player) once, that i thought he was as good as tony rice (to me, they both have similar styles when pickin' the "speed" grass). http://www.smokin-grass.com/

I've seen over 30 Phish shows since 96', but the one that sticks out in my head is Deer Creek 2000, 2nd night. It was the only show of the 3 night run that I had Pavillion seats, as if that ever mattered. Anyway, the whole Zepplin 'Moby Dick' theme ran through the entire show, it was SICK!!! My adventure was heightened by a certain member of the mycological community, but nonetheless it was a great time. That was my last true Phish experience. I saw them in 04', but it just wasn't the same. Maybe they'll get back on the train and jam once again. ramble_on74

I thought that the lot scene for Phish was sort of stuck up and rude, but then again I only went to a couple of thier shows and never really got into the whole enchalada. To me the jams never went anywhere, stuck into the same rotations, younger musicans maybe the cause, but the influence was heard all through the music. I guess that I was Tainted by the Dead and the way everyone had their own voice in the band and together that was a symphony, at least to me. Phish on the other hand I could go either side of the fence really the studios are well produced and sound good, live shows I have not bothered with, just because there are so many more hours of the Dead to enjoy. Sorry Phish-heads, I know that in your eyes they are your Dead, for me I can take it or leave it. F

I have had the unfortunate luck throughout my life of always having something come up that keeps me from going to show. This has proven true for both the Dead and Phish. Everytime I would get tickets in hand something come up that would make it impossible for me to go. There is also the fact that I did not get truly into the Dead untill late '94 giving me a small window of time to be able to see them. As a result of this horrible streak of luck I have been obsessive about archiving as many shows as I can get my hands hands on. I know it is not quite the same, but I have to go with what I can get. As far as Phish shows the one that sticks out in my mind is 8-13-96 from Deer Creek. The setlist is amazing, plus it has sentimental value because it was the first show I got a a tape of from a friend. I was ecstatic when it was released as part of the Live Phish series, because I was able to listen to the show again as a SBD recording. Yeah Farbie, I can hear you about the jams not going anywhere alot. I mean I love Phish, but I can only come up with a handful of really good Reba JAMS. Nothing like Phish though...

I saw Phish for the first time by accident right after getting off Dead tour in fall 1989. To me it was a situation of going from my peak Dead experience to my peak Phish experience. Before the world caught on Phish was just plain stupid fun. If your a fan of Zappaesque composed music listen to some Phish shows from 1991. The scene at Phish shows at this time was wonderful many smart spiritual folk and no hangers on. The band was still travelling around in a van it was a great time to see the band.

"Livephish, PhishNet, etc I could never understand all the negative stuff about the Dead on these websites. Didn't anyone ever understand where it all came from?" I already got yelled at for trying to trade a phish ticket on dead lot(early 90's) lol so I guess it goes both ways. My guess on why alot of Phish phans dislike the dead is when Jerry passed, it basically ruined their scene with all the overflow from gd to phish. Just a guess though..... _________ this space for rent

My first Dead show was in Phoenix 3-5-94, and I had seen so many Phish stickers and shirts that I wanted to check them out when they came to the suburb of Mesa in December '94... So for me (being 15-16 years old) both bands were just part of one huge awesome trip that I wanted so desperately to be part of. The bus came by and I got on, only there were two buses! The Bozos and the Bolos? I graduated high school in 1996, so I never got my chance to go on a Dead tour. I did get to see five shows, for that I am forever grateful! But thank goodness Phish was there, playing at their peak, and the spirit of it all was there, I believe...

Wow i am happy to see this thread here as i have spent about 8 years of my life intertwined in the phish world. I wish i could still keep in contact with my friends from those years. I spent the last years of my phish travels in the clinic and actually by that time i was over it, but i look back at those years as if they were pages out of a story book. If the Johnson twins who were my best friend at one time are on here please drop me a line. For some reason i feel that Shawn Johnson is on this thread some where and his twine brother Shane who used to work for Phish and who used to enjoy the Jon Coltrane parties at my place in P town in the late 90's. Anyway Phish was also a big part of my life and i have seen somthing like 175+ shows as i have actually forgotten how many i have been to. I remember many bits and pieces all the time and i am thankful for all these great times. Ya 96 i felt is was close to being over but then came 97!!!!!! Trifecta

Kevin-n-Maine I loved Phish but they lost something when they went mainstreem, I saw them at Amys Farm,The bars in Portland and Boston for a 2-3 year span and it was incredible but I think they lost somthing when the venues got bigger and they stopped playing some of there classics like "fluff head" and "wheel song" etc.

I really must say that one of the finest examples of Phish in this decade has to be 07-19-03.... 07/19/03 - Alpine Valley Music Theatre - East Troy, Wisconsin Set 1: Sample in a Jar, Reba^, Wilson, Scents & Subtle Sounds, Maze, Driver, NICU* > Ya Mar*, Rocky Top*, Lawn Boy, Julius Set 2: Piper > Rock and Roll > Seven Below > Prince Caspian, You Enjoy Myself Encore: Wading in the Velvet Sea *Leo Trio (The Page Quad if ya count Lawn Boy) What a magical night at Alpine, this was Phish just being Phish in my mind..Very loose and playful...Fantastic Setlist...Trey was not that fucked up and really wanted to have fun after a great first night.....Every song in my mind was very well played, though I always said they should have practiced after the hiatus..... No whistling to end Reba and Wilson is an assault on any speaker system....Leo Trio was amazing as Page just owned the end of the 1st set.....Piper is an ambient masterpiece...Listen to the last 10 min...And the BEST Post Hiatus YEM for sure.... Go download it for 10 bucks at livephish.com......This is what I give to anyone who wants to get into Phish.... Dead to the Core www.myspace.com/bongwizard

If you haven't had a chance to get and listen to the fall 2018 tour you are missing quite a lot of really good music. And the "Trick and Treat" second set of the Halloween show is just a perfect example of the boys having a hell of a good time!

I like touring and traveling. That is while a created a blog on traveling, johnmomoh.com. You can get more update on travel tips. I also write quality contents on traveling.
