    January 19 - January 25, 2015

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have early, middle, and late-era Grateful Dead from 1968, 1981 and 1989.

Our first selection is from 8/21/68 at the Fillmore West, recorded to 8-track tape just a few days before the exceptional show that would make up Two From The Vault. From this show we have Dark Star>St. Stephen>The Eleven>Death Don't Have No Mercy. There's a tape cut in that last track, but the entire sequence just drips with energy.

From 13 years later on 5/11/81 in New Haven, CT, we have the end of the first set, featuring It's All Over Now ; Althea ; Lazy Lightnin' > Supplication ; Don't Ease Me In. This tour has so much great music and it's been fun to re-visit the tapes and share some of them here with you.

Lastly this week, from the penultimate Grateful Dead show at the LA Forum, we have the end of the second set, featuring Dear Mr. Fantasy ; Hey Jude ; Turn On Your Lovelight, Knockin' On Heaven's Door. After these shows, most of the Dead's LA-area shows were at the LA Sports Arena.

Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.

    really nice 68!
Just listened to the 68 recording and it was a hot one. Great sound and awesome playing. I've been on a primal Dead kick and that hit the spot. Thanks Dave.
