Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll cover 20 years of Grateful Dead history, 1969-1989, with a stop in 1973.
Our first selection this week is from 7/3/69 in Colorado Spring, CO, where we have some great music from a period of transitional Dead, where they were moving from the psychedelic music that would define the first half of 1969, to the countrified music that would define the second half of 1969, and more specifically 1970. From this show, we have Sitting On Top Of The World ; Morning Dew ; High Time ; Me And My Uncle ; Casey Jones.
From four years later, we have the big jam from the third and final night of a three night run at the Universal Amphitheater in LA, on 7/1/73, featuring Truckin' > Drums > The Other One> Wharf Rat > Me And Bobby McGee.
Lastly this week is the post-Drums sequence from the show that opened the excellent Summer Tour of 1989, on 7/2/89 in Foxboro, MA, featuring The Wheel>Dear Mr. Fantasy>Hey Jude>Sugar Magnolia, The Mighty Quinn.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
