Synchronise a soundboard recording with one or more good audience recordings of the same show and you get a matrix. Some very deadicated and clever people have ‘matrixed’ quite a range of stand-out shows; here are 5 from across the years that I have recently sampled, combining top quality sound with atmosphere like you were there. All that and 3 Dark Stars, 2 St Stephens and 2 Terrapins!

1 DVD with all FLAC files. Would unpack to 12 CDs

Sept 19 1970. Fillmore East.

Most of set 2. Absolutely mind-blowing show and recording. Great Dark Star and a Lovelight with Pigpen totally outrageous. 1 CD.

A partial show with good jams and a really authentic concert hall sound too (to my ears anyway). Just before PITB starts you can hear some dude in the crowd drawl ‘Yeeah, this is it’.Sure is! 2 CDs

1/22/78 2nd set

Wait until you hear the 2nd set of Eugene '78: I get goose bumps listening to the Other One > Close Encounters > St Stephen sequence. My recording of the beginning of the 2nd set is an audience source; whereas the rest is soundboard, echoing Cosmicbadger's description.

To echo Cosmicbadger and Gr8fulTed, the beginning of the 2d set of my copy of 1/22/78 is also an AUD. Both the Taping Compendium and deadlists.com list that portion as circulating on AUD only. Whether the Vault has the complete show on SBD is an interesting question. The fact that the beginning of the 2d set is not a SBD should not deter anyone from acquiring this great show.
