Turn on your lovelight
The band finished up with Pigpen doing Lovelight. Members of QMS plugged in and jammed through an extension of the number. Two truly memorable nights of the Dead and QMS.
Not so IMO
This was my second Dead show, and it was a great disappointment after the stellar show in Denver at Mammoth Gardens I was at two months prior. I can't quite explain it but to me this show just didn't do it for me.
I remember...
My first show, I was 18, a philosophy student at UH. Lived in the Jungle and took the bus to the Civic. All the early deadheads were there from the Bay Area. No disappointment for me, Nicky Hopkins playing "Edward" and Jerry opening up on pedal steel with the Riders. Pigpen outdid Dino Valenti on "Lovelight" and Steve Miller was onstage at the end too. Changed my life - bought my first electric guitar at Easy Music the next day.
