Post-Jerry Dead?

Over in another topic, scubabrew raised the question of why we're not talking about post-Jerry Dead.

Many things could be said on the subject; some would certainly have it that "post-Jerry Grateful Dead" is a contradiction in terms, and in any case the band retired the name after Jerry passed. But as scuba implies, that doesn't really address the fact that there were some darn fine shows by The Dead, The Other Ones, etc.

So here's the place to talk about 'em!

Guest Artists: Boon or Bane?

Over in the Shows Request topic, there's a bit of discussion as to whether the myriad guest artists who played with the Dead added to or detracted from the quality of the music and the whole experience.

Since it seems to be a subject on which mileage varies considerably, why not talk about it? Discuss here!

Thoughts on "Jerry Week" - August 1-9

Last year the legendary Patti Smith wrote a real stunner of an essay in which, among other things, she dubbed the period from August 1 to August 9 "Jerry Week."

Don't miss the essay, but post your own thoughts here.

Goofin' With the Lyrics

We've all heard 'em. Hell, we've all probably created a few, inadvertently or otherwise.

The mis-heard lyrics that are hysterically funny once you find out what the right words are. The unique version of "Truckin'" your bar band came up with. "St. Stephen," as rendered by your 6-year-old.

You get the idea. Post here.

Robert Hunter

Somewhere in Signpost, I think it is (or some other interview I haven't read for 20 years), Jerry is talking about the days when he and Hunter, newly sprung from the army, were living in derelict cars in Palo Alto (it is left to the reader to contemplate the halcyon days when there were derelict cars in Palo Alto...), mostly on canned pineapple liberated from the armed forces. Many's the time I've thought how different life would be for how many people if not for those days. Anyway, this is the place for fans of Hunter to congregate, pay tribute, fantasize about tours, and otherwise be darn glad we didn't miss this guy.
