30 Days of Dead

30-days-of-dead-2024

It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.

Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!

Hint:
A trio of classic first set songs from an lesser known but excellent tour

    the strangest of places

one of the things i especially love about 30 Days is when i am pointed to a show i have missed out on. yesterday's is a perfect example, as i don't listen to that final year much (or even after Brent, no offense to Vince) because it often just makes me sad.

but then here's this amazing show, with Jerry sounding awake, engaged and energized. what a blast !

so thanks again to Dave and Marye and all the crew that give us this game every year, and thanks to the unique community we have here. this year this place of joy has been even more important than in the past.

and i am Forever Grateful to the musicians and family that made this music !

looking forward to seeing y'all next year.

31 Days of Dead starts Dec 1st

Our dear brother, Ed, is doing 31 Days of Dead again this year (yay!). If you want to continue community for another month, check it out. If you don't know about it, here's the scoop:
"Similar to what dead dot net does in November, I pick a live track for download each day in December with an accompanying write-up. Unlike the “30 Days of Dead,” there is no contest here. Instead, the prize is the music and the winner is the listener."

To find it, search for 31 Days of Dead on Instagram.
    Hope to see you there!

    Outstanding

Thanks for the tip. Not sure exactly why The Bus took me. Something innate... a rock bottom belief.... that just is.

Archive can sure use your support!

Sending out a reminder that Archive dot org is facing immense challenges to their mission of providing free music, literature, films, history, etc. to everyone worldwide. As they stand up to lawsuits challenging their mission, I hope you will join me in contributing to this INVALUABLE resource.

I can't begin to count how often Archive has contributed to me listening to the Dead....and of course is a great asset to searching for 30 Days of Dead. Even other sites, like Setlists, Relisten, Jerrybase, etc. often refer & link to Archive. So, I hope you'll lend your support as you're able!

    Peace!

Did anyone tell you that there is more free music on this site. When we down load each day you see the box with the time and a speaker then 3 dots. click the dots and Download comes up. Now if you go to the music tab you will see music for sale. click on a show. Go to listening parties and you will see the same box with the three dots. It has a set list. I just clicked 2 shows and there are 5 very lengthy downloads. All free from the guy that places clues so we Trip over them. You mentioned the new to the site need to be guided by the older folks. Someone turned me on. Here's to ya.

Yesterday's answer...
Philadelphia, PA, The Spectrum
One More Saturday Night closed this show's second set, and the very next night, the Dead's final appearance at the Spectrum, Phil broke out Unbroken Chain for the very first time
