30 Days of Dead
It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? A wonderful sonic journey. If I had to choose only one venue to have seen the Grateful Dead during my short journey with them, it would have been this one. Definitely takes the top spot of 2024's 30DOD offerings for me so far. And we're only 2/3rds of the way through the month! And lest we forget.......the faster we go, the rounder we get! Or is it.......the more we eat, the rounder we get! It is the month of Thanksgiving after all. May I have some more gravy on my mashed potatoes please? And hand me that pumpkin pie with whipped cream.
Regarding yesterday's pick.......October 27, 1984(the day prior to yesterday's show), was the day the band provided an "official" taper's section in every? most?(not sure) venues. Ironically, we were given a slightly imperfect taping of CRAI, which I find hilarious. But of course, THANKS to those very TAPERS, all we have to do is poke around a little to find the full version quite easily. Happy listening friends!
