30 Days of Dead
It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!
Not in 94, right? Re the organization of the 30 days, my impression was that while Dave Lemieux was behind it, maybe he’s got more going on and delegates the actual function of the event. He seems too detail oriented to allow it to be shoddily run, but also probably pretty busy with his others projects
I got the daily once a few years ago. I typically get 30/30 but sometimes 29/30 (the tracks not from concerts can throw me). They never emailed me. After a few months I went back and forth with them via email (they aren't very organized). They were out of calendars so they eventually mailed me 2 cds, Warfield and Ready or Not. I thought that was nice.
A couple of years ago I won the grand prize, a Listen to the River box set.
Of course, I already had all of these, but they make great gifts.
If I had my way, there’d be 365 Days of Dead.
So Many Roads, Jerry sure had soul.
Not my favorite era of the band, but still a great set of tunes.
saw 31 shows this year...
DL2 really digs it, as bits & pieces have shown up in the Tapers Section & JotW too...
to someday win. been playing since 2014 (at least that's how far back my files go lol) and have never been selected to be the daily winner. My batting average is well over .900 too :^)
