30 Days of Dead
It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? A great show from this tour. Solid playing all around. This date was a bit unknown or unmentioned on lists of shows from this time but well worth the whole experience. The build to the guitar solo section of Half Step here shows the excitement was high and band was really cooking well together.
I believe the the "first" appearance of a famous song pairing in this particular touring area (2nd overall) occurred at this show. And a fine version of the pairing it is.
I haven't entered yet but would like to.
I got that one! Woo-hoo. Only got two so far, well three counting today. Between you and others, and other hints, I got a good feel for it and once I got my archive selections sorted I was good to go. That's the fun of this contest.

Sorry - First show - I don't have anywhere close to all of the shows I attended listed in my profile. That's probably only about 1/5 or maybe less. They all blend into one. I have a big box full of old ticket stubs and a bunch in old photo albums with old stubs that I sometimes think about pulling out and adding here but haven't had the time. As I wrote yesterday, I didn't think to highlight that point.
Found it before I got to LLR.
