30 Days of Dead
It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!
i don't seem to have facility to enter a guess. Either i'm looking in the wrong place or it's cos i'm in uk????
2 years were definitely on the dart board for this one. All about that end of the song Jerry lead guitar parts for determining it. Not related to today's selection but I found a great Scarlet from another night earlier in this year at a rarely played state and city: Jerry plays little tiny 2 string double stops on the high strings in the intro while Bob handles that lead gtr part that he does and some different keys sounds in the mix here and there. I also found that example that Bundubush spoke of! Speaking of different keys sounds. The things you find out along the way. Fun part of the journey.
I'd have been looking all day. Tough without any clues on previous or next song. Still took quite a bit of DeadbaseX time before listening to two to nail it down. I try not to google things to get answers unless I'm desperate.
Cheers
This isn't it but found this one along the way that has a totally different twist on the keys for this era 10/23/1973 in Bloomington Mn. It's worth a listen. In the meantime, I am on to listen to the show from todays selection.
Thank you :)
