30 Days of Dead

30-days-of-dead-2024

It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.

Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!

Hint:
A second set jam sequence that is about as classic from this era/year as it gets, featuring songs from 1967, 1970, and a double dose of 1972. We always try to go out with a bang during 30 Days Of Dead, and this certainly fits the bill

    Hau dose thus ongo

How does the song go indeed. Great lead guitar intro and fiery ending. What comes after the ending helps to nail it down. A fine pair happened here at this show and also on an earlier day in this year's contest another side got to two(fer) too.

    Attics and "you"

Thanks hornsby. I too reference that great resource by Dodd , but like you said doesn't really define the "you" of the lyrics but I think that's the way Hunter liked it. And come to think of it, me too. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

    Don't need lyrics.......

when the played notes are as sweet as this. I particularly loved Bob's delicate, staccato strumming and the keyboardist's subtle but prominent contributions. The rest of the setlist is just incredible as well. When I get my time machine up and running I'm definitely going to put this date/place on my destinations list.

    Not yet Thanksgiving...

but we're already on seconds! (more ways than one).
Speaking of seconds - what's with the 17 seconds of blank space (no sound) at the end of this one? Is this Dave just messin' with us by extending the timing? No matter - this show is definitely up there, and in good sound too. Enjoy the extra helpings!

The two tours that surrounded the Fall Tour of 1976 (Summer 1976's comeback tour, and Spring 1977's tour of excellence) often overshadow this tour, but there are many great nights from September and early October 1976, including this great show in Indianapolis
