30 Days of Dead
It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!
Woke up to find out that I was going to be spending a considerable amount of time finding this show. For no good reason other than inattentiveness to detail. But what an educational search it has been. The jamming between Jerry and the keyboardist in the final 3 minutes or so during Eyes was absolutely mind blowingly pleasurable. I loved the bird sounds especially. Thanks for giving us such a wonderful sequence of music Mr. Lemieux!
As for today's hint I will just say.......barely.......or is that Bearly? Happy listening fellow Heads.
I came back to correct myself because the 5678's were from Kill Bill. The band in Wayne's World is Crucial Taunt lol
Looked for a while for this China Cat Sunflower
Was a bit proud when I heard the right jingle peek through.
My mind was wandering a bit after the 10th or so try.
But I knew my time was coming any old day and the right notes seemed to shine my way.
Sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs from another show.
Hope you are able to discover these songs on your own.
With four songs, I thought it would be easy.
Deadlists proved me wrong.
Then I listened. Shoulda done that first. Dummass...
Hit it on the second try.
... like the wild geese in the West
But I also popped onto this show first!
Not the best quality recordings of this show - nice that Dave's offering seems to bring out the keys much better than on the archive source I listened to. And another long set - Thank you!
