30 Days of Dead

30-days-of-dead-2024

It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.

Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!

Hint:
Three tracks, two of which debuted in 1972 and one in 1971

    well said

Indeed, Wackaloon!! What I really love is how many shows I find along the way that I either a)didn't know before or b)had forgotten about and then remember to listen again. It's nothing if not the sheer pleasure of listening to more grateful dead. Thanks Dave and all the Gang!!

    Dave’s not here man

O wait, he is! Thank you Dave & Co. for the nuggets, always look forward to hanging with you all. Great show today! Listened to the whole thing after nailing it down. Phil is jamming with Jerry, Pig, and Brent at the great gig in the sky. Time flies be kind and have fun!

very sad at the type of comments

I understand those new to this wonderful game need a bit of guidance.
If all you want to do is complain go do it somewhere else. Many of us have been a November family for 15 years. We laugh, give out subtle hints and sometimes argue over a venue name.
I have never seen the disrespect and negativity as today. Dave and crew do not have to do this at all. It is a gift. A way to search, remember shows, hear new versions, and for me get a great variety playlist to boot.
If you are new NEVER PUT AN ACTUAL GUESS IN THE COMMENTS.
if you are new ASK AND A VETERAN PLAYER WILL GUIDE YOU TO ENTER THE CONTEST, OR WHERE TO LOOK, OR HOW TO NARROW IT DOWN.
There are numerous sites to search:
    relisten
    grateful stats
    set list program
    roots of the grateful dead
    deadbase
    gd sets
    and more.
If archive is down they are working on it, try picking up a book

The fun is in the search discovering new gems and going back in time, answers are a wide range even rehearsals, and for gods sake STOP COMPLAINIG.
Not all are available in super flac or 9000 bit rate. just sit back and have some fun.

I look forward to this every year, being tone deaf i start with dead base and then try to find an anomaly like missed words, or a strange riff, or anything then sometimes spend hours listening to versions to try and find it. Like many I have a spreadsheet. Sure we like more pig, less repeats, high quality and all but BE GRATEFUL &
JUST LISTEN TO THE RIVER SING SWEET SONGS TO ROCK MY SOUL.
god bless all, and have a good night, hope to see all back in the morning.

San Francisco, CA, Family Dog at the Great Highway
The St. Stephen>The Eleven combination was played frequently in late 1968 through 1969, and makes up a quarter of Live/Dead. Here, rather than heading to Lovelight or Death Don't Have No Mercy, they segue into Drums and High Time
