30 Days of Dead

30-days-of-dead-2024

It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.

Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!

Hint:
A trio of songs that were generally played in the post-Space part of the show from 1980 onward

    getting to the TAPER’S SECTION

Thanks dmeszler for the TAPER’S SECTION hint- good place to look if you are at a loss. Once you get to the ARCHIVES you need to click on the VIEW ALL. This will then bring you to the FEATURES page. Next, you will have to click on the words TAPER’S SECTION (it doesn’t look like a link but it is) to go further back in time than just the three weeks that are listed. Dave has pulled from this resource a few times in the past.

    Re: Casey Jones

Not sure where else it may be, but the Casey Jones from yesterday can be found right here on Deadnet. Links are not allowed in the comments, but if you maneuver using the ribbon at the top through Archive and then Tapers Section, you will find it in the September 30 through October 6, 2024 posting. Hope this helps.

    Question?

Casey Jones... I knew it was a 70s show but I couldn't find all of the shows on Relisten or Archive. I went to that show this morning, because I had a question mark next to that date. Setlist had it listed as played that night but achieve and Relisten don't have it on their setlist. I am confused. For those of you that found it. How did you do it?

Yesterday's answer...
Champaign-Urbana, IL, Assembly Hall - University Of Illinois
Bob Of Rain was played live quite a bit in 1972 and 1973 before being dropped until its triumphant return in 1986. Mexicali Blues and Sugaree both debuted in 1971 and stuck around consistently until 1995, although Mexicli took a break (as did the Dead for much of the same time) in 1975 and 1976
