30 Days of Dead
It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!
October 19, ‘94 at the Garden was my last Jerry show. High energy from beginning to end, though the Birdsong wavered a little. He was looking haggard but seemed happy. The So Many Roads is soul stirring. Even though I have a boffo Charlie Miller master, I’ve always hoped this show would get an official Dave’s release, that way my first (4/26/83) and last gigs would be part of the release catalog. But I’m happy the Feel Like a Stranger>Bertha and Samson.>So Many Roads have found their way into the 30 Days downloads. ‘Cause I was there, man…
Heart of gold BanDuh! I racked my brain and Deadbase on this one (even downloaded some stuff on LL's) The hints threw me for a loop on year, venue, etc....gonna go with my gut. This is why I love 30 DOD. Nice job eh? :)
And they're all ours to have and to hold till the Dead do us part. And beyond!
Favorite rocking combo, but total guess as to show, hope i have the right year. I think!!
Good Luck all. Keep em coming Dave. Thank You
It's all about that lead guitar "icy" sustain tone that was going on right at this time. And that outro of Scarlet duet between lead guitar and keyboards. Those 2 things helped me really nail down the year and tour/months. The timings helped too.
