the bands that changed the world
All sitting on the front steps. I see members of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Charlatons. Don't recognize any Big Brother members, are they there? I don't see Janis. I think all 5 bands were part of this photo shoot that has one photo of all of them lined up (in Golden Gate Park?).
Interesting how Pigpen keeps his distance and doesn't seem to be wrapped up in the fun the others are having.
I have a book by the photographer, Gene Anthony, think it is called Summer of Love that has many incredible photos of the period. He was there from the start.
These folks are still rocking my world.

smile on your brother
The only person who could be Janis is standing opposite Grace up on the steps. I think that is Sam Andrew and James Gurley sitting beneath her. That may be Dan Hicks up on the landing and maybe Berry Melton of the Fish up there too. It looks like Peter Albin up on the landing too. Pig Pen is probably just ready to take it all back inside. God, I love the Grateful Dead!
think it ...
is Janis up on the stairs with the hat on & most likely Peter Albin on the right (only half of his face showing) Did you notice Cipolina? he's near Jerry......xoxoxo Gypsy Cowgirl
Janis
I think that is her in the hat and sure did notice John C. next to Jerry.
As a teenager on a farm in Iowa my one concrete goal was to some day see the amazing guitar players in these bands. I knew that I had to see,Jerry, Jorma, John as well as Carlos play.
.
The goal was reached.
Mission accomplished !

I love this picture. I wish I knew who every person here is. And yes, that has to be James Gurley sitting with Sam Andrews about halfway up the steps. Near whoever is wearing Jerry's hat.... 1967. Thank you, James Gurley
