1988 Bammies
I was the founder and executive producer of the Bay Area Music Awards (the bammies) for 27 years. One of my goals was to have the Grateful Dead play at the show. Jerry and Bob played once, but I wanted the whole band. I contacted them for the 10th annual and to my amazement they said they would be interested, but with one stipulation... they would only appear if they could jam with Huey Lewis and the News! So, I had to get two of the biggest groups in the world to agree. Huey said the band would do it, but we had to get John Fogerty to sing lead! OK. Now, this was sounding impossible. But John said yes. So the picture above was amazing enough, but what you don't see is the next song when ALL of the Grateful Deal and ALL of Huey Lewis and the News back up John Fogerty doing "Long Tall Sally!"
