French Heads...
Il ce pass quoi a Montreuil en septrembre? J'ai deja vu une "cover band" a fete de la musique mais ca fait 6 ou 7 ans quand j'ai plus de nouvelles de cette groupe.
The Netherlands, anyone?
For some reason, becoming a member didn't work out 6 weeks ago, but now I succeeded.
Never attended a show and became a fan only around 1992. Not necessarily because of what they were doing at that time but still I own all legal music except for Terrapin (too expensive, considering the period) and the last three downloads. Why are those no longer available?
I also own some 45 concerts from before the Live archive closed. Not having attended those shows I tend to prefer officially released concerts that sound great (apart from the terrible Jerry at Lunt Fontanne stuff which I can't stand and only goes to show not having attended the show makes one more critical...)
I am the lucky owner of the 10 cd Fillmore set which happened to sell out before official release. Should become a legal download, of course. Basically, I like everything up to October 1974, 1977 and some later concerts (DP 5 and DP 6 spring to mind, gotta love DP 6 cd2!). I think 1989-1991 is somewhat overrated, but it's a comeback anyway.

Featuring twelve Americana-twinged tracks, special guests include Grammy nominated John Cohen [The New Lost City Ramblers, and recently featured in Martin Scorsese's documentary on Bob Dylan, No Direction Home]. Cohen, who served as inspiration for the Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band," plays mandolin and sings on the title track.
John Ventimiglia [Artie Bucco, The Sopranos] co-wrote "28 Days," and sings on the title tracks refrain.Other guests include Drummer Doug Yowell [Suzanne Vega, Duncan Sheik, The Dragonflys], bassist Saul Zonana [Ace Frehley, Luv Junkies] and vocalist RJ King.

English Deadheads
Saw the Dead twice in London in 1990. Had a fabulous time. Managed to get to the Wakarusa festival in 2005 and 2006. Best birthday present ever was listening to the Schwag playing Terrapin Station whilst dancing with my daughter on a sunday morning in Kansas.
The Dead have been a constant source of joy in this world we live in. I have passed my love of their music to my daughter, who knew all the words to Friend of the Devil at the age of 5, and even now as a typical 13 year old would rather listen to the 76 new year show than the Fratellis in the car. We sing their songs and dance. Though her friends thought her strange when she went to school with her steal your face lunch box. She is known as the hippy chick.
The Grateful Dead a band for all occasions and all ages. I thank you for the times we have had.

Deadhead in France/Denmark
I moved from the US to Grenoble, France in 1999, and unfortunately the only deadheads I meet here are the ones the old friends that come to visit me here. I'm about to move to Copenhagen for about a year and then return to Grenoble. Anyone out there in either of these cities...I'd love to get together and share some music and show memories over a cold beer or bottle of wine. Most of my european friends just don't seem to get the music. I'm sure there are some of you out there. I'd love to hear from you.

Greetings from a London deadhead...got switched onto the Dead by an old girlfriend while living in the US in the early 90's but, alas, never got to see them live...my only live experience is the post-Jerry Dead at Jones Beach, PAF at the same venue and RatDog when they played the Astoria a few years back...still, have managed to d/l numerous live shows via archive.org (before they stopped sbd recordings) and bt.etree.org with my favourite years being 1974 and 1977...it's great to have this forum because being a deadhead in the UK is a somewhat strange existence...you have this huge connection to this amazing world of GD music that somehow creates little resonance with most of your compatriots...I do my best to proselytise among my group of friends...put on some GD when they're round for dinner or something and wait for them to say, "this is good, what's this..." (a frequent reaction)...anyway, good to see there are some likeminded folk here in Europe!

Pretty sure this is my first post on this site.It´s so nice to read all your anecdotes and thoughts concering the Dead. Big thanks to you all. Your keeping these nights, when i really should be sleeping, interesting.
Me myself lives in Sweden, with our long winters, and my name is Joakim.
I´m in to ecological lifestyle, and doing my best to live as eco-friendly as possible, with plans of beeing self-sufficient as soon as possible.
Wonder if there any fellow swedes here?
But Im not that hung up on nationality or geography, we are universal people us ´heads it seems to me. The Love connects us.
I havent seen any GD-show, I was only eleven years old when Jerry left the earth to join the places where only his music had been before.
So I have not that much to contribute with when it comes to that. But I´ll do my best.

When I was a student doing the summer-in-Europe thing, I took my student railpass and took the overnight train from Copenhagen to Uppsala, because I really wanted to see Uppsala. Long story. But anyway, I have the loveliest memories of the place.
Except there's this Bergman movie in which there's a scene of a particular corner with yellow stone buildings and cobblestone streets, and it gave me intense physical flashbacks to dragging my no-sleep self and excess luggage past that very corner looking for someplace to sleep. Wound up at what seemed to be a private hostel out in the country. It was full, but the lady took pity on me and let me stay in the attic. The view was incredible...
And the sound of the train conductor calling the stops. Linköping is the one I remember.
Of course, this was in 1971. But in my mind, it's still lovely.

I´m from the woods of Karlstad quite close to Norway. But I worked a summer in Uppsala actually, very nice place! Have some friends there as well.I know Uppsala were one of the most interesting places in Sweden in the early 70s, with all their musicforums and stuff. A lot of great experimental bands came out of that place, like Samla Mamma Manna, and others.
Linköping is almost a blank spot on the map for me though..
Oh, those nice ladys on the countryside.. I think they are angels in disguise, they have saved me in similar ways as your story.

Could I be the first Irish person in here? That would be a new experience! Anyway, briefly...
Moved to London after I finished school in 1970 and remember buying American Beauty and Astral Weeks (Van Morrison) on the same day that autumn (Fall!). I don't think I'll ever do better than that again. Got to see the Dead at the Lyceum in 1972 and then somehow fell away from all that until the 80s when I was in the States and someone (thanks Bob Hapgood if you ever hit this Forum) turned me on to the great taping tradition. Got lots of stuff from very generous US traders (I didn't have much to trade at the time). One of my favourites is the Warfield concert. I later found it on the Reckoning CD. STill I have Dead besotted periods and have only truely come to appreciate Gerry as a guitar player in later years.

It's a well known fact that I only got to see the boys once, Bickershaw 72-05-07 but what a show that was. A sublime Dark Star that will long live in my memory.
I'd been listening to the Dead since Aoxomoxoa caught my eye in the Co-Op. I took an instant like to the album cover and had to have it. Up to then I think I had caught a couple of miscellaneous tracks on the radio but after that I had to have more.
Since then I've been buying, d/l and editing shows,and there just isn't enough time in the day to listen. I'm backed up with sweet music that should see me through to my retirement and beyond (yes there might just be an afterlife).
And Mr Witcher, who is our resident Spanish correspondent, there will not be a matrix of the Charlies from SOLparty emminating from this direction. It's just too much of a chore. We have the aud (my favourite), the sbd and the video. Isn't that enough for a grown man :-)

Europe '07?
I read a posted comment about the lack of big (pop. over 50,000) one-band, multi-day, camp-in summer shows going on back in the States these days... I totally agree... although there is still a plethora of wild multi-band summer festivals which I will be deeply missing for the next two or even three years as I will be working at an NGO in the city Sevastopol, in Crimea, in the great nation of Ukraine. Southern Crimea is absolutely spectacular, but I do already miss my summers at Red Rocks.
Bob and/or Phil should bring their crew out here for a European reunion!
Europe unfortunately suffers from a dearth of fresh, natural, creative rock n' roll, and a sickly excess of nauseating pop pollution. However, I have heard a few good Ukrainian and Russian folk bands which sound appealing. Can anyone else out there in Deadland recommend some good natural/jam European bands? Send me a message if you can...

Horsmonden in the hizzouse...
...er, sorta. It's the place to which we've traced the family's English provenance, and for those who haven't heard of it (or who made the mistake of blinking whilst driving thru), it's about seven miles due east of Tunbridge Wells.
Not a whole bunch to see there or thereabouts I guess, and it's why I was telling SSDD that if my peeps had stuck around, my Football League allegiance likely would've swung toward Brighton & Hove Albion...or maybe Gillingham.
Anyway, I've got aims on getting over there for an up-close inspection one of these days. Should suffice to occupy at least part of an afternoon, at any rate.

A month ago we(English Deadheads) had a party not too far from Horsmonden to celebrate the anniversary of the summer of love, Top of the bill was Barry The Fish Melton. The weather was kind and a good time was had by all.

Thanks for that - (I lost or gained 5 years somewhere or just got a crap memory?!).
I went to loads of gigs in those days (post 1974) including flying burritos, little feat, santana etc & I can remember who I saw & where (more or less) but have lost track of when - location sticks better than dates! Have never seen NRPS though & still might yet.
Also went to a gig at the Brixton Academy in 2000 that was Ken Kesey & the Magic Bus on a Merlin Tour..............
I see you are in Granada - I have always wanted to go to the Alhambra!

Can't believe how badly I forget dates - I remember it was around the eclipse - did not attempt to go to cornwall.
Just after the Merlin gig I bucked up on one of my old deadhead friends & we went to a gig a few weeks later in a village hall near Taunton with Gene Parsons from the Byrds..............you never know what may happen next!

This seems to crop up every now and then, more with folks in Europe. It SEEMS to relate to hitting the Publish Comment button, having nothing happen, hitting it again, lather/rinse/repeat. What's causing the lag, that's another question.
