Nope-didn't make the original, was just a baby, and on the wrong continent :-). Have only seen a documentary about it.But you are right, show from this year looked pretty corporate and tame, despite some interesting bands. One singer-Amy Winehouse caught my attention with her great voice! Such a skinny person, and such a big voice! Gave me a good laugh to watch all those young kids watching Country Joe, and looking very blankly at Donovan. If I remember right, they both WERE at the original fest.

I see if I can track em down. Yep fests are getting more organised, but losing the nice laidback hippiness feeling. I have not been to Glastenbury for a few years but watching it the box its all very yuppy and corporate now. As to weather its been awful for ages now so I'm expecting the wellies to come out from the shed. Still looking forward to it no end, switch off from work and TV and all that stuff. Did you get to the origanal IoW fest that had some excellent bands on, missed that as well. Born at the wrong time I guess although having topped 50 it seems I should have done more.

Sure there are a couple here, have seen posts from British guys here and there! Is one guy posting under "Howard" if I remember correctly. Watched footage on t.v. last night from Isle of Wight (sp?) festival 2007, which looked like were some fun bands there, and also alot more DRY and organized than the original fest.

I know I'm probably the only one in Beccles, Suffolk but are there any deadheads out there in the rest of this green and pleasant land. Never got to see the dead live so I'm extremely jeolous of all those who did (thats everyone writing here it seems). I play the albums, read the books, and read your experiances to fill the void. At least I've converted the family, took awhile before Gill my wife would listen, then said "I thought they were heavy metal or something with that name" oh! well got there in the end. Spent the 70s and 80s seeing lots of gigs cant remember most of em so they must have been good at the time. I got the hang of it after a while and if poss got tickets 2 nights running. The first to watch and enjoy sensibly the second to get off my face and really enjoy. Now with a family I go to nice gigs/festivals We are off to Latitude Fest down the road to us tomorrow. Should be good, poetry, theatre, and good music, Arcade Fire,Tinariwen etc. this year and fine beer as well. If anyone fancies listening to Radio 4 Loose ends, Sat night its live from the Fest. Take care all you fine folk, I'll let you how the fest goes when I get back. Cheers Cliff

Hey all, I grew up just south of San Francisco in Half Moon Bay and Redwood City. Now I live in France like Garcia44. Was living in Paris working as a cook, and now I've been travelling around South and Central America for a year with my wife. When we go back to France we'll be moving to the south to Toulouse, and in a couple years maybe move back to San Francisco, but like tigerlilly said you learn a lot about the states by leaving, but I've been to some great places and in my heart home sweet home will always be the San Francisco Bay. It is so nice to see this site finally up and running after waiting for sooo long. But just to let the heads in europe know, I did come across a European version of dead.net, but it seems pretty empty there. www.eurodead.net, now that we're here, we'll have to get the people on that site over here. Hand me my old guitar and pass the whiskey 'round. Matt

Given my own lack of innate musical talent, or sufficient discipline to acquire playing skills, I always admire - but don't often listen very long to - amateur cover bands. However, DHSerbia, having just completed your entire 6/12/16 set on utube, I'm tremendously impressed. Your collective musicianship, communication, and emotional conncetion with the music warrant a greater, or louder, audience than the 4 people who audibly applauded. In particular, let me say that I kept waiting for familiar instrumental landmarks to "Cocaine", but got none. That intro is fantastic, but led me to believe that the setlist described below the video must be incorrect. Still, when the vocalist sang the all-too-familiar, "If you want go out...", I realized the band was putting it's own imprimatur on the classic by infusing it with a slower, bluesier feel across a broader instrumental palette. Well done! Were you stateside and local, I'd be a groupie. Perhaps when back in Holland later this year I can plan a trip to the (other) BBC!/peace, Katherine

Hi I am a music lover and a hobbyist guitarist. I am always in search of music which I have not listened to. Being from a technical background I am always trying how I can mingle my technical knowledge of programming and music.Looking forward to have a great time here.

Deadnik , there are some heads here in Austria , you will meet some at local summer festivals called " Lovely Days " in Eisenstadt and " ClamRock " at Brurg Clam. You will see some at concerts of Gov`t Mule , Warren Haynes ( as he is the only Dead related musician who plays most every year here in Austria ). Another fine scene is the " Arena " in Vienna.Unfortunately there are no Gatherings here ---- Austrian Heads are the one to grow their collections at home and play them to their friends... cheers , Erik

People who love the Grateful Dead in France (Les gens qui aiment Grateful Dead en France)...you don't need to be Deadheads or wear a uniform (pas nécessaire d'être Deadhead ou de porter un uniforme)...Who are you? Where are you? (Qui êtes vous? Ou êtes vous?)..."We are everywhere", maybe, but I sure don't bump into many of you just strolling around (On a beau dire "Nous sommes partout", mais je ne vous croise pas sur mon chemin)...

The atmosphere is hot tonight, boulevard des Italiens in Paris: the Grateful Dead will give its second concert in Paris, as part of its European tour. But if the atmosphere is electric in the streets, it is mainly because dozens of young people demonstrate and fight against the CRS to claim the free rock concerts.

The Olympia Room is a classic music hall, with its rows of tight seats against each other, and the balcony overlooking the stage - and where I'm sitting tonight. Really uncomfortable to dance. But the music, irresistible, seizes the body and, like many others, I spend a good part of the concert to gesticulate, standing, wedged between two chairs.

I dance like crazy on a Good Lovin 'furious. The musicians have no look, there is no stage play, nothing to do except Pig Pen, his hat, his look, his mouth. But after a while I do not listen anymore, I focus my attention on what the musicians do behind him. They weave wefts, they ornament, they open paths and then close them, they are discrete or roar, it seems endless, and the rhythm, always the rhythm that catches the body, makes them vibrate, the music that becomes colors, red sounds, mauve sounds, and it whirls, a real party for the head and the body.

So many songs played beautifully, tonight! From the first title of the concert, Greatest Story Ever Told (very energetic) to Chinatown Suffle, Playing In The Band (played, it seems to me, on a tempo a little slower than usual), Big Railroad Blues (where Jerry launches riffs as rarely) and so many others. Until that Dark Star, which I did not know and which appeared to me in all its magnificence, a waving and swirling sound wave. Never heard!

Graceful acrobats, subtle tightrope walkers, the musicians, fire in the veins, give, this May 4, 1972, a magnificent concert, not resembling anything I had listened to until today. Probably, one of the best concerts of one of the best tours of the Dead. For my part, one of the three biggest concerts I've attended in my life, and the biggest rock concert.

Great review, Alain. This show is definitely one of the best, if not THE best, in the box set that came out a few years ago. I was fractionally too young to catch the band in 1972-but that was the time to see them. One of them..

Hi guys
I'm a belgian deadhead born after jerry died. Me and my girlfriend went to the states for half a year in search of the scene, and in search of the music. We were so surprised to see and feel how alive it was, one of the most beautiful moments of our lives! Saw a lot of shows that took me to that place, met the loveliest people and i'm so grateful to have experienced it. Now we're back in belgium for a while and i have literally never found one single other deadhead in belgium than the 2 of us. It's so weird not being able to talk or dance to, some grateful dead and jerry tunes.. so this way i'm trying to connect with people from belgium or even europe who are deadheads, i never met one in europe anyway, and i wanna play their music, the scene has to come to europe, europe needs it, and i just really miss it :)

much love to all of you beautiful souls
