    Jerry, Keith, Pig, Vince and Brent just formed a supergroup, guy from Spinal Tap on Drums and Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy on bass....Mayer n Sons just gave up the rights to Dead and Co. to them.... see them when they come to your home town this summer....

    It's reality brother and reality often is depressing....those of us on the bus long enough saw the slow and steady decline....it's funny how we all look back at the scene esp. after 90, and cut the boys slack. First sets cut from 10 plus songs to 6 or 7, second sets 7 or 8 songs plus encores. What was once 3.5+ hours of music was reduced to less than 2.5.... I am looking forward to it, just like watching the old 8mm's of me n my Dad, he's dead now for 4 years, and nothing's gonna bring him back, but I can still smile, Smile, SMILE, even for a second.... even a shitty stoned Jerry in 95 is better than no Jerry at all..... just my 2 cents...

    Real Gone is legit, they contracted with Rhino on the Dicks Picks and now apparently the Road Trip series. I can't speak for Privateer87, he(she) is just another reseller on EBay. There are two possible issues raised regarding Real Gone, the first is the pricing, almost double the original release prices and the second is they are possibly using a cheaper paper stock/printing quality on the cd covers. I wouldn't call them shady though.. they have a legal and legitimate contract with the GD and Rhino to re-issue these. What's shady is Road Trips vol 3, no 3 (5/15/70 Fillmore East) going for $259 without the bonus disc. My guess is there are at least a few out there that missed the original pressing and are a bit relieved to see this coming for sale at what will likely be $50 or $60 new. All things considered.. I think this is a good thing and if anything will take some pressure and profits off the resale market. Just my opinion. Edit: Ooops.. looks like Frosted and I crossed paths and wrote basically the same opinion. Anyway.. hope there are no hard feelings, just another op ed. Happy Tuesday all..

    I think you're jumping to conclusions. I've bought a number of Dick's Picks issued by Real Gone from ebay and amazon, including some by Privateer if I recall correctly. Have always had a good experience with that except for once through a retailer in North Carolina who shipped it to the wrong address then refused to re-ship it when they told me that, although they did give me a refund. I think they realized they underpriced it, then re-sold it higher somewhere else. Real Gone also has set quantities in their releases, so when they're really gone (heh heh) from their website, it is possible that re-sellers still have them on ebay. I don't mind paying double the original price if I missed it first time around. But I refuse to pay gougers $100+ for any of these out of print discs except the box sets. I'll wait and hope for Real Gone. Will be very pleased if Dave's Picks is next for Real Gone, especially the early ones. I'm sure the demand will be there if they start with the best and most popular ones. There's a whole world of deadheads and newbies out there who may be tempted again after not following them as much in recent years, and I think the GSTL box set will rekindle interest.

    Interesting.. I think more than twice the price too, but my memory isn't what it used to be. Still, this is good news. Also, I wonder how they will look? There were a bunch that had good artwork underneath that opaque brown paper bag look. They will probably look much nicer. On a related note, it always struck me that Jerry Releases were following the old GD model. Right now, for example, they are into the brown paper bag look. I love the concept of recycled packaging, but the artwork comes through better when printed on white paper. Dave's Picks packaging is superior to the Live Jerry releases in my humble opinion. I'm half tempted to score a second FE 1970 in case my original gets damaged...

    So for the added 3 CD jewel it's double the original price? Road Trips Vol. 4 No. 5-Boston Music Hall 6/9/76 (3 CD) $54.99 preorder. Those recycled unbleached cardboard sleeves just got more collectable. What about the 2 CD Trips that came with a bonus CD for early buyers, is that now part of the set? or the 4 CD 5/15/70 Fillmore set? Maybe Real Gone will be reissuing Fillmore West 1969 in jewel cases next?

    ....that Real Gone music should change their name to Never Gone music. Bravo, and kudos to them. I raise my wine glass in appreciation....and to gollum, I can only offer advise. Glad you had a good time though. A labor of love sometimes only goes as far as the advertising and promotion. If not for you, I never would have heard it was even happening....that's a concern, cause I keep alerts like this on my phone, and it never rang....yeah, girls twirling

    I didn't find the 1970 "night with the grateful dead" shows to be "too long" at all. I thought they were terrific. I was more amazed that Garcia (& Hart) made it through three or four consecutive sets (Micky playing with the NRPS often). Actually, they were thrilling shows ... the recordings are just a shadow.

i've seen two of your posts in one weekcomplaining about someone's negative comments-guess what, when someone has an opinion that is not aligned with your thoughts,even if it's about someone setting a price for something they selling or the band is slop before pigpen.its gonna be negative.it's their prerogative to say it's not worth it or no thanks.i think it's your emotional immaturity to anything negative or something you don't agree with.you could have left it to-"that's your opinion and i don't agree."instead you feel it's necessary to put someone down.earth without rain is a desert.

Hi all, A technical issue I'm hoping to resolve: Recently ordered this set, promptly downloaded the CDs to my iTunes collection. Getting 1-2 second pauses between most of the tracks which disturbs the flow of the music. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Gareth

It’s most likely caused by a setting in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences and see what is listed for import settings, as well as for playback settings.If you still can’t fix it then google it, there should be instructions somewhere.

You know, Gareth, it really comes down to what you like about the Dead... When I put in the Dead, I rarely want to listen to songs, so to speak. I tend to go for the long, inspired jams. For this, I would suggest the Winterland 1973 boxed set as No. 1, so far... though in general, shows from the 1973-1974 will be your best bet for this... That said, there are gems of shows throughout the years, though I've never personally been impressed by anything later than 1977. May 1977: Get Shown the Light (All Music Edition) is a great collection from this year. I also really love One from the Vault, Sunshine Daydream, & Dick's Picks, Vol. 14... The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack is an all-too-looked-over gem, too. Finally, if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Pacific NW '73-'74 boxed set while it's still available on this site. When these sell out on dead.net, they price-inflate like crazy to 2x their original cost or more.

Get Shown the Light, the box with the book, was limited to 15,000 copies, I read somewhere.But I can’t find anything on the All Music Edition that’s still available. Can somebody tell me how many of those were printed?

So, I'm totally showing my newbie-ness, but when the formats are digital, which is the best to download? I'm thinking about uploading to iphone for maximum bluetoothing. Also, is the first selection a CD collection of the four shows? I didn't see it listed behind the All Music Edition, so I figured it must be sold out.

16/44.1 is CD format, so you could convert to WAV or AIFF on a computer and burn CDs if you wanted to, as well as have the digital file on a music player.

The higher resolution files are for a computer or music player. If you wanted to burn CDs from those files you would lose the higher resolution that you paid more for.

Hi there,

I downloaded the ALAC of this digital download but when I import into iTunes it is not recognizing the artist or songs and not creating an album. For the same ALAC download for Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: The Complete Recordings Boxed Set it worked perfectly in iTunes. Why does this download now import correctly? Thanks if anyone knows or can help.

You should ask on the Dave's Picks 30 thread…there's more people on there and very few if any on here…hope it helps.

Since they sold out of the regular box set with all the bells and whistles, and had a huge demand, Dead.Net is selling an All Music Edition that "...only includes the 11 CDs in four folios and a booklet of liners, housed in a simple slipcase."

So, still the four shows, just without the special packaging and the unpublished book. This time, the order went through. Nothing on the website about this also being a limited release -- it's not numbered, but they don't specify if it's another set amount.

Hello,
I've purchased the fantastic Lyceum LPs more than a month ago and still nothing arrived.
I've searched for the tracking number done by the GD store on the DHL site but nothing appears.
I've yet written to the customer helpdesk, but I'm curious if somebody encountered my same problem.

Just to state the obvious, they are indeed fantastic records. I am half way through 5/25/72 at the moment - one that no-one really mentions. Probably because of the night after, which is a shame as it's a great show in it's own right. Curious "Good Lovin" - 14min 53 seconds, and no Pigpen rap - he just sings the opening the verses and the closing ones some 12 minutes later. In between we have spot on r'n'b jamming like no-one else.
