    Hi!
Hello family/friends, I do consider myself to be a deadhead. I've been listening to the dead ever since I could safely say 4-5 years old. I am currently 18 years of age, and my love only grows stronger for them. When I can recount my youngest memories of being a child, like first learning how to tie my shoes, or learning how to swim. Or, even just being around the people I loved as a child. The Grateful Dead was always playing, and I believed they are the reason why I am today. I am a person who just wants to share love, and happiness to the people around me. And, if I can do that in my days work. My day is complete. The man that introduced me to The Dead when I was a child, I do not speak much with anymore, he seemed to grow away from my close family. And, what I would do now since I haven't seen him in so long. And, just to give him the biggest hug, and looking at him. And saying, I thank you for showing me the music that changed my life. And, it has and always will....Wellp, I could keep rambling on, and on for an introduction. But, I hope to get too know you all more, and ill be around posting some comments. Peace and love

    Hi im new here
Hi everyone,The name is jay and im from the washington dc area. Im 22 years old im libertarian, and i am a huge fanatic of music. I listen to all kinds of music but my favorite genres are 60s rock/psychedelic rock, jam bands, 90s hiphop, grunge rock and 90s rock in general, and jazz (especially miles davis, dave brubeck, john coltrane). I work for a company that makes flight simulators for the government and its ok but i have to tend to tone myself down at work because im brutally honest and say whats on my mind and some people may think my views may be radical so i tend to wear chaps at work and be productive yet when im home i jam with my bluegrass band, shoot shotguns at targets (yes im a gun owner but no i dont hunt, weird huh?), and love just having a good time just as long as everyone respects keepin the noise down for my neighbors. I am a psychonaut and occasionally use psychedelics but only once or twice a year and with serious spiritual responsible intent. I love people and i love expressing my freedom of speech by protesting and being a activist for many causes (i do live in dc afterall!). Today is my first day on the board and i look forward to coming on here often. Peace and love!

    Hello again all ... :D
Hi, thank you for the warm welcomes ... I have been a deadhead most of my life. I grew up around my deadhead uncles. I've been to 3 shows in Orlando. As you all probably know the dead didn;t like coming to florida. At the time I was in a 'different world'. But I always have enjoyed the dead. I went on and experienced different types of music to see what it was all about. Next thing you know ... Here comes my knight in shiny tye die armor. Sweeps me off my feet. And re-interduced the dead to me. Its nice to be back ... Even though I've been a back seat dead.net member for over a year. lol ... I hope to get to know you all ... oh wait I already do ... lol ... j/k ... Sorry I like to joke around a lot so don't take me too seriously except when it comes to gardening & my love for the Dead. I was glad to hear when the hubbyman (aka Stuman) suggested to Ms Marye about the Mother Earth forum. I'll be there soon. I have read alot of the post .. Great Forum ... Thank you Ms Marye :D I'll see you all around in the different forums.

A poem for the Dead "Family", please read!
I am the one the bus got its new set of tires for in 88 and the reason the orange got cooked. Bobby and Mountain girl please pay attention to my poem and I hope you read and like it. Thank You Bobby for staying so healthy and clean to keep the strongest hand on the torch all these years. What a great trip it was.... Two 357 magnums, barely able to stand, the astrologer saw him from far away and when the young boy came to the crossroads she knocked over tables to bear witness to the crowd of many the glory of the golden light only she could see and the look in her scared eyes was that she knew he had finally found his people and that meant the end was in sight. Sage filled the air as the skirted rainbow warrior walked across the lawn and the Jew dropped a bag of gold on the ground as he said his goodbyes. When the young boy jumped the fence, a bear walked out of the woods with a yellow flower behind his ear and without a word spoken, the lady laid on me his rose and that's when it truly all began....for everyone. The deer all fled in despair after the dust settled the morning after and the girl from the mountain knew she had been right all along and the orange sky reminded her of why her family had came so prepared. When she finally heard from the boy again, twenty years had went by but they boy had never left the hill. As he sat on the final hump on the hill, the girl from the mountain asked him, "you now understand they gave you everything you ever wanted, you know everything is right on time, and you are relaxed knowing you'll still get pushed back out one more time, so why is it you are crying so hard my dear? "I already cry for the future little ones. I came back out this year and I can't get any of these kids to appreciate my stories so if it always takes me this long to remember who I am, how will I get the little ones down under to appreciate what it was like to have high times on the green grass, a blessing from God even for the short time it was? Oh well, I'm ready anyway so let's get this peace started once and for all......bye everyone..." they're never gonna miss us.... I love you all...stay high, keep movin, give everything away....

Hi everybody, I'm new to the site and my name is Gus. I like music from the 60s and 70s mostly with a tiny bit of 80s. The 1960s is my favorite period though for its wonderful aura of brotherhood and its spectacular music.

Just posted a short playlist for a blog I write for here: http://bareknucklewriters.com/2010/10/the-music-never-stopped/ Reason for posting this is not so much to pimp what I wrote and the playlist itself as it's nothing you haven't heard or read before. The reason I am posting this here, is that while thinking about my motivations for creating the list in the first place brought back a ton of terrific old memories. Going to the mailbox and seeing that magical package that contained those Maxell tapes. God, I love the Dead : ). ScarletFire

I hope all is well with all who take a glance this-a-way! It's beautiful weather here, I can understand why so many musicians who made it to SF decided to hang around. I just wish I discovered it sooner! The City is fun but Sonoma and Mendocino are awesome. Micky & family lives out here and so do Tom W. and Charlie Musselwhite. Charlie is always playing around. I'm Grateful Live today...should a moment later I be Dead...Grateful is the way to launch onward! I'm Barney, Peace

Hi everybody. Just a lurker here that wanted to say this site is awesome. So much info I love it. Been following the Dead since 87. Really enjoy the new incantations of what they are all doing now. Haven't got to see or hear any of this 7 walkers stuff yet hope Billy will make a trip to the midwest sometime soon. Looking forward to see Further at UIC. See you out there somewhere.Peace

I Followed a couple links and ended up here in this beautiful place full of my kind of people. I'll go by cosmicdan, but you can call me anything that makes you smile. I saw every show I could from mid 70's on, (without traveling all over the world like some of you.) I have a collection of live tapes and disks that would make many of you serious collectors flash back to when you only had a little tiny fraction of what you have now. Oh well, I am a happy hippie anyway. Much love to all my brothers and sisters that hang around here, I hope to get to know many of you well.

Well me and Michele have been Deadheads forever and a day....I think. I learned of and about the Dead in 1984, while Michele was jamming to the Dead around 1979. Unlike life the experience of the Dead and every show was like a rebirth and birth of our senses and spiritually explosive.

I'm married to a beautiful wife and we have two boys four and six. I can't wait to bring the kids to a show they love the music already.

That's right...Nebraska.My older brother brought The Grateful Dead home from his freshman year of college in 1985. The very first time I heard St. Stephen off 'The Best Of..' that summer, I was toast. Saw my first show at Alpine in July of 1989. Saw my last show at the Silver Bowl in May of 1995. Made it to roughly 60 shows during those blissful 6 years. I miss Jerry...a lot. Thanks for having me. J

What in the heck are you guys doing? Holding benefits for Obama.(In 2009) Ya lost me there. I mean really, Bobby, Phil, ya really lost me there. I can't figure out what you guys are doing. What in the world are you guys talking about. I don't even think you guys know what your doing. You guys obviously don't know what your doing. Ok Dark Star. Got that part. You guys let me down time and time again. You can bash me, go ahead. I'm used to it, You guys treat me pretty crappy when I used to go to shows and hang around you anyway. And I'm one of the people that used to put a bunch of energy into the shows. Its not even worth going to shows and putting any energy into it because why should I? I get treated like crap, by a bunch of people that don't know me and think they know better than me. After the Obama benefits, its like, wow, I don't really have anything in common with you guys anyway. So, I broke off from the mothership. Bye. Whew, well I feel better now, just like I always do for myself. As usual.

I'm not sure where I should be posting this and I couldn't figure out how to post a new topic anywhere so I'll give this a shot... Name is John from Philadelphia. I inherited a large collection of tapes of the Grateful Dead. These belonged to a dedicated fan who's life unfortunately ended at a young age and his father has passed his collection on to me after years of storage in the basement. I have not had the opportunity to go through all of them yet but there's a little over 500 tapes ranging from the 60's to 90's... His father said he used to travel to concerts, record the events and later trade tapes... a bootlegger I suppose. My question is what should I be doing with these? Besides storing them for another decade in my basement and occasionally popping a tape in my boom-box... I'd hate for them to deteriorate with time and become trash. Is it worth while dubbing these to MP3's for safekeeping? Or are there so many of these tapes around that I'd only be wasting my time? Thank you all for any suggestions you may have

my names Kenny im 22 and sadly was only alive for a few years during the Dead's run. My biggest regret is that i will never get to hear the world's best live band actually play live. My favorite period for the dead is 63 (mother mcree's) to 73 (pigpen's death). I only recently (in the last year) got into the dead and have tried to catch up quickly but there's obviously a vast amount of material to indulge in so here i am. I'm also somewhat of a mediocre musician and my solo album can be found here : www.bandcamp.com/lennylenape . There is also an improvised version of Sugaree on there. I'm just here looking to meet fellow dead heads and allow the dead to consume my life haha. Cheers

Huhhh? WTF Danno? Obama is such a predominant factor in our mutual love for penulttimate jam band music that you have to feel ultimately violated and hated because we had such a stark choice for president last year? C''mere you big ole' dancing bear! Quinn the Eskimo's right behind uf and everybody's gonna wanna dose! I was always sick of the politics but I'm glad I didn't let it define me! Santa and the psychedelic mushrooms are playings at Harvard in Cambridge Square in Boston. You better not not shout , you better not pout, Amanita Muscaria are coming, to town! When I was younger, I always was working keeping ..the main loves of my life __ This phenomenal music which kicks your ass and gives you energy to shake those bones, and Kalli, the one who got away. I did dead tour from 1989-1994 I was not a regular because I had a son. But when I tour I stayed close to the Wrecking Crew. I lived in Denver and Traveled between Denver and San Fransico. I want to find old friends. I want to hear about the old times and see pictures. I want to be in contact with people I considered family. Although the last time I saw everyone I had a bit of a freak out!

I just got to say- this forum is so much more civil than similar bands forums. As to be expected.... I essentially toured the West Coast non-stop from '87 to '93 while I was finishing high school and attending UC berkeley. I move to San Antonio in 93 didn't help the show situation too much. Sold sodas after shows to support myself, slept in a lot of rest areas hanging out with some very cool people. I have never stopped listening to the Dead and apart from my current Dick's Picks obsession, I am a regular Dead podcast listener, aiming to keep things random. J.T. I am in Chicago and would love to meet new folks to hang out with. Remember hearing some years ago about a bar that did a weekly (monthly?) Dead night, if anyone knows if that is still going on would be awesome to hear. I'm 42, married and got into the Dead too late :(...saw them about 5 times in the late 80s/90s but the first few times was just there for the party. Gradually got more into the actual music and now it's most of what I listen to. I have been able to see Furthur a couple times and am very excited about them, I think they are the best of the "post-Dead" bands. Other interests include yoga, biking, sports and beer! Nice to meet you all!!
