A place for the 30 Days of Dead folks to gather and continue their conversations when November has come and gone...
A few answers and resposes...

I swear that when I downloaded Let It Grow, I heard Bobby say "we'll be back in a bit", but now when I play it, it cuts off before that. I tried re-downloading fron dead.net and the site posted here, but it still cuts off. Any help? Exorcist?
Actually no it's not the twilight zone, that would be the Tennesee Jed>Let it Grow one you heard...at the end of this sequence (which is a part of the 30 days) Bobby said"We'll be back in just a little bit."
>>>>My Lilly and Badger
Two of my favorite overseas Deadhead Dead.netters....I am totally with you on the Europe "banning" from contests and things Dead...I feel your pain (in fact the Europe tour banner this year proved that) and I'm totally for you guys entering these contests and being able to win stuff.
>>>>Two Sugar Mags
On December 1st, 2010 MrnDw said:
there were two Sugar Magnolias yesterday . . . where was the other one from? . . .
Yes there were two sugar magnolia's in the 30 days of Dead...make sure to check the archives they now put up and you can get them all until Dec. 8th.
>>>Labrika
Love that idea...we could have a "stage banter" contest, I have alot of those in my head right now just thinking of this idea
>>>>cb73
The artwork looks like to me that it was made from the guy who does the graphics for Dead.Net and he (who is a really nice guy by the way) was trying to give us a bone in this department. I can help you guys with any artwork, just let me know what you want.
>>>BigBoss
Wondering the same thing myself....I sure hope so but I think they are combining those two weeks because they put up basically $100 each time there give or take.
>>>Re:Phil and Freinds Furthur Europe
I think Phil's act was just not generating enough revenue to justify a European tour. I think that if Furthur did one (they have enough revenue) it would greatly help their world wide exposure/fan base yet, I'm also thinking since the boys are a little bit older they aren't in a hurry to do this.
And regarding the contest, I've had some great ideas come in...like what's posted and a note about A-Z deadsongs too.
I think for the Sunshine Daydream prize, I'm going to put up an anonymous You-Tube (Audio/Dead Fun graphics) and have you guys try to guess the show from which it was played. It's quite easy to do and this would make a great contest IMHO. We could do different contests and utilize the great ideas as well the next week. Video should be up tommorow and instead of just one winner, I'm gonna make it the first 3 to PM or email me.

competitions
two or three years ago and by strange coincidence (or not) another CC, the inestimable CCJoe used to run a regular competition on this site which kept a lot of us highly entertained. He, in the role of celebrity quizmaster, posted tiny audio clips of GD song intros and we all tried to guess what they were. Joe awarded special prizes for the winners.
You can relive those days by visiting
http://www.dead.net/forum/false-alarm-only-game-town
and

Joe still comes calling here from time to time and its always great to see him.
Yeah badge
keep it going
I was not familiar with many aspects of the band live (though I saw them in '78 and own numerous studio albums.)
The 30 Days tracks are on my iPod -- with repeated plays I have already moved beyond a casual fan.
Any advice on the best "Road Trips" to purchase (assuming they are all still available...)?
beeswingrm.. what to buy
Maybe you should not restrict yourself to Road Trips releases. Here are a few personal suggestions for standout releases from each of the earlier years of the Dead (including expensive $$$ Box sets). You might want to look at the Best of Website that provides pretty good reviews of almost all the official releases.
http://www.thebestofwebsite.com/Bands/Grateful_Dead/Grateful_Dead_Live…
You can also listen to hundreds of shows at archive.org and decide what you like best
1968 (wild psychedelia and R&B) : ‘Two From the Vault’ or Road Trips 2.2
1969 (the jams get bigger and even better!): ‘Live Dead’ or ‘Fillmore West Compilation’. $$$$$$$$$$ Fillmore West Box Set.
1970 (acoustic and Americana start to feature): Road Trips 3.3, Dicks Picks 4, Dicks Picks 8 (Take your pick)
1971 (Spaced out cowboy bar room band): ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’
1972 (the full package!): ‘Steppin’ Out’
1973 (laid back, dreamy, jammy and jazzy): Dicks Picks 28 or Dicks Picks 19. $$$ ’73 Winterland Box Set
1974 (deeper and weirder): Dicks Picks 12 or Road Trips 2.3. $$ GD Movie Soundtrack Box Set
1975 (on sabbatical) : One from the Vault
1976 (in transition): Dicks Picks 33 or Download Series Vol. 4(I think we are still waiting for the ultimate 76 release)
1977 (slicker, sharper with something for everyone) : So many to choose from. Maybe Dicks Picks 29. Maybe Dicks Picks 15. Maybe something else. $$$ ‘77 Winterland Box Set.
1978 (on from ’77, but less consistent): Maybe Road Trips 1.4 (I think we are still waiting for the ultimate 78 release)
1979 onwards: Not able to say. Someone else take over please!
of course these are my personal preferences and prejudices
good luck
now Rhino, about that 10% commission!
another reference point
allmusic.com has pretty good reviews for nearly anything official - tabs for main albums and compilations - checkout the review for DP v4; http://www.allmusic.com/album/dicks-picks-vol-4-r233136/review.
But it is always good to hear from the real people right here.
beeswingrm.. more of what to buy
As far as the best RTs...I'd zero in on 2.2 (2/14/68) and 3.3 (5/15/70). Probably since the material is rarer in the context of all the other releases. By that criteria, 2.4 (cal expo 93) would also be worthy, but that's only if you really dig the anything post '91. No bonus disc is a downer, though.
I don't think the Road Trips are that good of a value...I'd go for the commercial multi-track stuff first since the recordings are better, and the prices are generally lower on a per disc basis. You can find several of the Dick's Picks and multitrack releases on amazon.com for less than what they sell for here, usually with FSSS. (I see that 2FTV and 3FTV are going for $14 each right now).
This might help you find releases in years and periods that please your ear: http://deaddisc.com/GDFD_Dead_By_Date.htm

So glad I made it
As a freelance timber cruiser, I used to arrange my work schedule around the Dead shows that I could attend. I preferred to function as a Flintstone rather than a Jetson. My work kept me in the forest and out of the office. A knee injury has required re-training, and I joined the modern world of computers in 2008. Since then I have received my Bachelor's Degree (Applied Science) in June, 2010. I would check this site periodically, but schoolwork and shows kept me busy.
I am grateful to be a part of the online world. As I read the previous postings, I realize that I was not present in the strangest of places. I hope to learn from this; and I hope to look at it right.
As I continue to revise my documentation files, I will continue to post them to:
30daysofdead.weebly.com
I added a chronology page on December 3rd.
Who's going to San Francisco for Furthur?
OOOps Marye
Just as I thought I'll have to make up a vid for it un momento.
Well Bill You got it!
While it lasted Bill got it and will be getting the very first video...there are two more available...But I think in order to make this work, I've got to put it up on a vimeo...and the next one will be the Grateful Dead....I was just testing.
For those that didn't get it before Marye nuked it (Thanks Marye) it is available here.
Phil's Bday Furthur and Friends Show
The song was Elevator (one of my fav Phil and Freinds tunes) which Furthur played when they rocked the house for Phil's Bday.
I'm gonna have to do a video with pictures now for the real non-test contest....Give me about an hour or so.

My 30 Days disc arrangement.
I just sat down and organized the tracks chronologically on disc, includent the Scarlet>Fire bonus from the Warfiled that popped up on the first! It's awesome how planned out the song choice now seems. Mine look like this:Disc 1- The 60's
Disc 2- 1970-71
Disc 3- 1972-1978
Disc 4- 1980-82
Disc 5- 1983-1989
Disc 6- The '90's
I really like all the arrangements that everyone made
You can also find great inserts/covers for these discs (in chronological order) from Sustainabill.
http://30daysofdead.weebly.com/
I've been making my 30 days version a little less rigid than chronological...and more flowing like a show. I like more a variety skipping back and forth between era's for the Christmas presents I'll be giving out. I remember giving out two CD's in the St. Louis Furthur Shows parking lot and getting two really nice emails from the two kind people I gave them too (they were youngins). Saying that they were blown away by the guessing of what awesomeness was next....I think both the youngsters favorites was the Easy Wind from Pigpen.
So fun to pass the torch to the guy who says in the parking lot...hey man, all I have is 3 Released records of the Dead....you got any shows? ;-)
♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥
Hey what....
you guys got a scarlet/Fire ....what the heck, I was on on the First how did i miss it? Is it still around?Sent my guess in, I listened 2 too many Jack A Roe's-LOL now evryhting sounds the same :)
Yes Labrika, there is a Santa Claus!
Here's the link to the Scarlet>Fire from 10-10-80 at the Warfield. It fits between Estimated and Sugaree in my 30 days compilation. It's a safe bet that those Warfield shows are a future boxset!http://deadroots.net/30days
Right On...
Just looked in my spam folder, and found an e-mail from the deadnet saying I was the 11/22 weekly winner...prettty jazzed about it...think I'm gonna go with the vinyls (already own the warlocks set)...
Was wondering what happened to the last weekly winner; anyway...
Congrats, BigFlosser!! :-)
Ok Week #2 Contest will be up in the next day or so
Just got my Road Trips Vol. 1 No. 2(Oct 77)
Great contest in November. I won on the 27th and am now enjoying some Sugaree from 10-16-77 in Baton Rouge....
Grateful Christmas
What a great day! I came home to find a 16 GB flash drive filled with goodies from a guy I met through the 30 Days promotion. After dinner, as I sat down to copy the files and reload it with stuff to send back, the doorbell rang (literally two minutes after I sat down). It was the UPS guy bringing me my prize for being the third weekly winner! I chose the vinyl Warner Bros. box set and it is sweet! I can't wait to listen to it!"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"
Thanks again for the contest!
Happy Holidays to all,
rg
Nice Ron!!
Sounds like a great month...I've met a ton of people from here on Dead.Net, and I must say it's pretty awesome!
FYI, new contest is almost done. This one is gonna be a bit different from what the 30 Days was...meaning...another new song...almost done.

31st Day Contest Week #2
Ok boyz and girls time for another weekly contest brought to you by Canyon Critter.
This one is special because the prize is this...The Winner (singular) gets to choose from anything within my collection. I've got a pretty darn big collection, and I bet the person who wins this week is going to be quite happy. You can Choose Anything you want from show, to movie, to rarities.

This one is a doozy...sorry for the short cut, but dew to the contest I had to make it a little harder for you to guess. As always email canyoncritter@southerntwirl.com to get the prize.
Love is Real,
CC
Glad you liked it Helena
A bit off topic, perhaps...
But I don't really know where else to post it. During the magnificent 30 Days, the announcement of the Road Trips subscription appeared and it was quickly spotted by myself and others that if you happened to live outside the US, you would have to mortgage your house to pay the shipping charges. The ever vigilant Marye said that she would look into it (and what she says, she does, bless her). Now I notice that the shipping costs have been amended. Now the subscription costs $95.50 for the US and Canada and $143.50 for the rest of the known universe. Bearing in mind the usual shipping costs for an international Road Trips order, this seems pretty good to me - not cheaper, but also not more expensive than placing four orders in a year. Of course, there is also the bonus disc thing as incentive. The subscription is now the sensible option for me here in Europe. Many thanks to Marye (because I am pretty sure this is largely down to her) and also thanks to Rhino who had the good sense to listen (and to realise that they would not sell any subscriptions outside the US). Now, bring 'em on!
Yeah, I noticed the price change...
...looks like they knocked off about ten bucks per release on the shipping, if I remember correctly what one of the Euroheads had posted for the previous total w/shipping. I would've commented on it but the Thirty Days posts QUICKLY disappeared and there is no commenting on the RT subscription page.
The Big Remaining Question is...
...if and how much the price of the individual releases will be jacked up, if subscription sales turn out to be disappointing. I don't know when the first RT in the batch will go up, or if they'll have a preorder for the individual release. The subscription offer ends Jan. 31 and the first release could be a few weeks after that.
I'm such a pessimist. I do have an offer to join a "subscription collective" with a few other folks. A couple of them are completist fiends and would cry if they miss the Blessed Holy Bonus Disc - but they can't afford the subscription so they plan to chip in together.
More than ten bucks cheaper
The price of a subscription with standard international shipping is now $143.50, whereas it was originally $275 ($95 for the discs + $180 shipping). Originally it was cheaper with Rush shipping, but as that was by UPS then extra charges galore would have to be added due to their policy of presenting packages to customs and charging extra on your doorstep for doing that, on top op the customs charges. I estimated that the Rush option would also end up costing around $275 in total. For the standard shipping they have knocked around $130 off the cost of shipping four packages, i.e. around $32 less per package (more than the cost of the RT itself). As regards release dates, it states that the shipping dates will be February, May, August & November. To align the series with the calender year it seems that there will be a RT 4.5 in November - in previous years No.1 of a new series has been released around November. Will the price of individual RT's be higher as individual purchases as and when they are released? Who knows, but they will all be 3 CD sets so it is quite possible. If so, the subscription becomes even more attractive (except that you have to pay the whole cost up front). I am also a grumpy old pessimist, but Marye helps to keep my pessismism in check, bless her. I think the basic rule of thumb is that people are good and corporations are bad - until proven otherwise. Bah, humbug.
And now I see,,,
That this Road Trips 2011 Subscription discussion has its own place over at www.dead.net/forum/road-trips-2011-subscription-discussion-topic. Doh!
Tis ok to have the disucssion here though
Never even looked for a forum topic for the RT, duh.
I was just checking the store page occasionally to see if they'd opened up a comment thread there. I get lost digging around in the forum hierarchy.
I was remembering that $180 as the total with S/H, not just S/H alone. Couldn't go back to refresh my memory since those 31 days comment threads had been removed. Cheaper by half now, that's such a HUGE difference I'm inclined to think that it was a mistake in the first place.
Nice video, Canyon!
Love the graphics! I know I can find this one, but unfortunately, I've been swamped the last few days. :(
Ok We've Got Our Weekly Winner
Thanks HD...We've got our weekly winner for this weeks contest. The answer was (one of my favorite shows):
All Along The Watchtower 06-23-1988 Alpine Valley, East Troy, WI
This Weeks winner is.....Hockney
This show is a whopper, and has that "Swishy Jerry" Sound when the sound man fed the vocals and Jerry's guitar into an automatic panning device that swished from the left speaker to the right and back again fairly rapidly. Here is one of my favorite all time Dead Hour shows with David Gans featuring this stellar show with a Blackbird>Brokedown Palace encore! GD Hour #556, thank you Mr. Gans.
