Hey, there's truth in Hal's description of the PNW: I-5 is an absolute nightmare. Congestion from Olympia, thru Tacoma and up into metro Seattle is very intense. Good thing he lives east of the Cascades beyond the desert.

Can someone vine these shows or send them to me? These contain the rare versions of Ruben & Cherise. 03-27-91 Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, N.Y. 04-07-91 Orlando Arena, 0rlando, Fl. 06-09-91 Buckeye Lake Music Center, Hebron, Oh. The other Ruben & Cherise show (03-17-91 Capital Centre, Landover, Md) is vined, and I have signed up for it.

If you want a mellow, hip scene and meet some nice folks in Oregon please just go to the Oregon County Fair. The last time I checked Hipsters liked micro-breweries, coffee houses, and even hanging out with some post grungers. Western OR. can be wet, but it is some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen on this Earth (my experience spans 4 continents). The coastline is breath taking. The east is hot and dry, but a lot of "humans" love it there too. The State is a culinary mecca with the best seafood, amazing organic farms, and incredible wine makers. It is a spectacular natural play ground with great skiing, mountain biking, hiking. Portland and Eugene have great music scenes and very nice, welcoming people. The Grateful Dead played amazing shows there from their inception all over the state. Some of my favorite recordings are from the many shows they played at the Paramount. As did Hal, I am just stating my opinion. William Blake also says "A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees." "And I love the life I live And I'm gonna live the life I love"

I mean besides not wanting people to move to the NW (believe me I totally get that) =) Then I was on furthur.net and this is one of the first sentences describing the September tour - "The first stop features two nights at the magical Cuthbert Amphitheatre in what is likely one of the most Dead Head-friendly cities in America, Eugene, OR." Eventhough I already thought OR was laid back when I read that I was thinking "really, in all of America"?? Considering pretty much any city in CO is dead head friendly (well except for extreme east and south) I found that to be a pretty bold statement especially since neither Eugene show is sold out. I don't mean to diss Oregon I was just trying to put some pieces together. "The dire wolf collects his due while the boys sing round the fire"

how have you all accomodated viners across the big pond? do you actually send the vine to them, make a copy and send it to them, or what. a vine can just as easily die here as it could there.i know that there are viners here from overseas, but just curious as to what has been done in the past.

I think we have had vines go all over the place from Canada, Europe, and to Australia and back. Other than lag-time, I don't recall any problems. I have mailed small packages to England, and I don't recall it being expensive--maybe a few dollars more. Use the US Post Office and not a private quick & ship business because it's a lot cheaper.

traded discs across the pond, and it's almost less expensive to send to europe than it is to canada. just looking for some input here thats all.

It used to be that we would set up Euro only vines, but as less Euros, and less Americans, are vining, that has gone the way of cassette tapes. I have recently sent a vine to Europe. I think it is fine. As long as postage isn't more than a few bucks more, I don't have a problem with it.

Also, Happy Holidays to everyone. I had to comment that I just logged on there were only three members logged on. A few weeks ago when they were giving away a free download each day, there were HUNDREDS of people logged on all the time. My dad used to say that people would line up for dog crap--if it was being given away free. Its ironic when you think about how much free music is available to all here in the vineyard! Yep, I have been camped out here lately. The new guys like Jimmy and Matt have sorta brought new life to the vineyard--kinda energized the place. No offense, but I am glad it's not so crowded now because I had a hard time logging on during those peak "free giveaway" weeks. Merry Christmas all

on the 30 days thing. Was there anything "new" released. By that I mean anything not in the vineyard or on Archive.org?

I stopped paying attention the last 10 days, but there was at least 1, and I think at least 2 tracks, that came from either uncirculated shows or SBD sources. One was one of the Fall 81 acoustic shows. I think there was a 66-68 show too. They only released 1 song per day, and each day was a different show. What was remarkable to me was how good the sound quality was for some of this stuff. Officially releasing this stuff would upgrade the sound quality for some of these shows. Of course, that will never happen in our lifetime, at least not at a price that we would be willing to pay.

IMHO 76 is without a doubt JGB at it's best. Followed by 77 & 78 of course. I know a lot of heads aren't fond of Donna in the Dead, but her and Jerry really had it together in the Jerry Garcia Band. To me 1976 JGB rivals the 1977 Grateful Dead run. Its really hard to find a bad show, you know. Awesome vine dstache!

Here are the shows recommended by the editors and/or reviewers in the Compendium for the years 1990-1992. I omitted some shows I already have (presumably from vines) and those that I know have either been vined or officially released. I'm sure I missed some so please check before you vine anything. 1990: 9/7, 9/11, 9/12, 9/14, 9/15, 9/18 , 9/19, 10/17, 10/19, 10/20, 10/27, 10/30, 10/31, 12/3, 12/4, 12/9, 12/12, 12/13 and 12/14 12/12 is especially recommended. The Sept MSG (less 9/16 which has been officially released) and Dec Denver (12/12-14) runs would be tasty vine fodder. 1991 It seems like just about every show is supposed to be good. 3/20, 3/27, 3/31, 4/1, 4/3, 4/4, 4/5, 4/8, 4/27, 4/28, 5/3, 5/4, 5/5, 5/10, 5/11, 5/12, 6/6, 6/7, 6/9, 6/11, 6/12, 6/14, 6/17, 6/19, 6/20, 6/22, 6/24, 6/25, 6/28, 8/14, 8/16, 8/17, 8/18, 9/4, 9/6, 9/12, 9/13, 9/14, 9/18 and 10/31 3/31, 4/1, 6/14 and 6/17 are especially recommended. And although I did not list it above, because I already have it in A- AUD, the September Boston run (9/20-26) in SBD would be awesome! 1992 3/1, 3/2, 3/5, 3/6, 3/8, 3/9, 3/12, 3/13, 3/20, 5/21, 5/24, 5/29, 5/30, 5/31, 6/17, 6/18, 6/20, 6/23, 6/25, 6/28, 7/1, 12/5, 12/6, 12/12, 12/13, 12/16 and 12/17. 3/2, 5/31, 6/28 and 7/1 are especially recommended. The May Vegas run (5/29-31) looks to be one of the best. I'm basing all this on the Compendium, and they are not always right. If you have some hot shows that aren't listed, I am game to give 'em a listen. I will try to post re: 93-95 later this weekend.
