"We were in the Pacific Northwest...between somewhere in Washington and some other where in Oregon. The road took us to the lip on a ridge, from where we could see around us for many miles in all directions … It was breathtaking to behold, but as we watched, we had a firm realization that we were witnessing something even more beautiful than our eyes could ever take in … Life causes life. Heaven and Earth dance in this way endlessly, and their child is the forest. And so there we were, epiphanously watching that grandest and most glorious dance of life—of which we are just a tiny part—awed by a magnificence without beginning, without end..."

Bob Weir, “Sell Headwaters—Everyone Wins,” San Francisco Chronicle

The Pacific Northwest offers up a rich feast of land, sky, and water. It is ripe with influences, abundant with symbols, deep and spirited. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that the Grateful Dead played some of their most inspired shows on these fertile grounds. It does, however, sometimes take a breath for the elements to re-align years later. It seems for us, they finally have and we are able to present not just a glimpse of the band's extraordinary exploratory tour through the region, but a two-tour bounty as the PACIFIC NORTHWEST ’73-’74: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS.

For PACIFIC NORTHWEST ’73-’74: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS, we've paired two short runs made up of six previously unreleased shows - P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, B.C. (6/22/73); Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR (6/24/73); Seattle Center Arena, Seattle, WA (6/26/73); P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, Canada (5/17/74); Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR (5/19/74); and Hec Edmundson Pavilion, University of Washington, Seattle, WA (5/21/74). Each show has been mastered in HDCD from the original master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering. The transfers from the masters were transferred and restored by Plangent Processes, further ensuring that this is the best, most authentic that these shows have ever sounded.

PACIFIC NORTHWEST ’73-’74: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS comes in an ornate box created by Canada’s preeminent First Nations artist Roy Henry Vickers (more on this tremendous artist soon). To complement the music, the set also includes a 64-page book with an in-depth essay by Grateful Dead scholar Nicholas G. Meriwether and photos by Richie Pechner.

Due September 7th, this release is limited to 15,000 individually numbered copies and available exclusively from dead.net. You'll want to grab a copy while you can and sit back, relax, and enjoy all the exclusive content we'll be rolling out over the next few weeks.

Looking for something a little more byte-sized? The collection will also be available for HD digital download in FLAC and ALAC, exclusively at dead.net, on release day. You can pre-order it now too.

    Get it while you can.

For any Gene Hackman fans out there... A great one liner from the 2001 movie Heist. Gene Hackman: (being reminded to get his change from a cup of coffee).. Money, it's what makes the world go round. Delroy Lindo: I thought Love made the world go round. Gene Hackman: You're right. Love of money. Sad but true.. It started a long time ago but seems to have picked up a lot of momentum with Gordon Gekko.

Either you edited your post between the time I first read it and when I decided to log in and respond, or I had an artificial hallucination. I thought I saw you write a line about "WHAT has happened to the human race?" and do not see it now. Anyway, I have your answer. The love of money above all else is what has happened to the human race, or at least the business end of it. I remember the days before voicemail and email, where it was always reassuring to get that voice on the phone to describe your problem to and clarify any misconceptions on the spot. Mostly gone now. Seems like around 1980 was when things started heading that way. Think back about what was happening around then, and you can get an idea why. About whether it's Fair? I'm not sure fairness has much to do with it anymore. But in all fairness, it's what you get in this culture now, not just something that happens at dead.net. I still have good experiences with some customer service departments though, but that usually happens when there is a voice bypass on the voicemail system to get right through to a customer service rep. I just got back from a road trip last night, and my PNW box is waiting for me to pick up with my neighbor across the street. I'm about to find out today whether I'm a lucky one with no issues, or another victim of haphazard quality control. Wish me luck.

Hello fellow Dead Freaks. I haven't been on dead.net lately, and I don't usually share that much. But I feel maybe I should share a couple of my thoughts and experiences with you.First off, The Box Set. I am sorry to hear that people have had bad experiences with this box set. But, on the other hand I am really glad to know that I was not the only person who has gotten screwed by purchasing this over-priced box of crap. I had to purchase the Box twice. And then I had to send it back for a refund twice. The first box arrived with physical damage to the actual box set itself. OK, problem No.1. Problem No. 2 -> by the time I gotten thru Disc 5 I had encountered so so many defects (skipping,etc...) I lost count and realized that enough is enough! I TRIED FOR 10 DAYS to get some actual customer service for an EXCHANGE. Writing them, and filling out the stupid Request Forms. Even received an "Access Key". Which "Mirrored Back" to me all of my email inquiries.(whatever that was about? Very strange) STILL, I was totally ignored and got nowhere. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL. Sent Box 1 Back. Now, I have painstakingly collected all of the Box sets and all other releases thru the years. It has been expensive, and not always an easy go of it. Especially when you only have one option to obtain this music through Dead.net and is usually always in "Limited Releases". (I have been very blessed to be able to do so and very grateful.) That being said, I bought a 2nd Box Set. The same crap happened again! The box set was absolute junk. So instead of being "totally ignored" again by dead.net customer service, I QUICKLY SENT THIS BOX BACK TOO for a refund. Again. NOW HERE IS MY POINT. I totally feel left out here. This should not happen. There is absolutely NO QUALITY CONTROL AT ALL. Dead.net has really wasted my time and money. I feel as though I have reached a crossroads here. BACK TO MY MAIN POINT. -> "NO ONE IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANYTHING ANYMORE". HIDING BEHIND EMAILS WITH ONE WAY COMMUNICATION IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO DO BUSINESS. It's that simple. IT'S JUST BAD BUSINESS. I also had to shell out $50.00 bucks out of my own pocket to return both these box sets. HOW IS THAT FAIR? So here I sit at the crossroads. Why should I buy another box set or any release for that matter when the product I am buying is probably going to be defective anyway? Why would I even consider buying anything online from a company that doesn't have any reliable customer service available to fall back on? A company that has nobody to talk to? Normally, I would not even consider doing that. If anyone at Dead.net cares at all about doing "Good Business" then they would realize that they have a Huge Problem that absolutely needs to addressed and fixed! The Customer Service that we as consumers deserve from Dead.net has always been terrible. This BS is nothing new. WE DESERVE BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE BEEN RECEIVING AND CONTINUE TO GET FROM DEAD.NET CUSTOMER SERVICE. So I implore whoever is running the show at dead.net to FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW, BEFORE YOU RELEASE MORE UNACCEPTABLE DEFECTIVE JUNK TO THE DEAD.NET CONSUMERS. I want to thank my fellow heads for reading listening to this rant? At least I know that someone is hearing my concerns. I'm sick and tired of talking to useless people that just do not care and have no pride in what they are doing. I come from a generation of people who actually had to work for, and earn a living to get ahead in this world. I also Truly Believe that "Communication" and "Awareness" is a good place to start to make this a better world to live in. So "Good Day" Dead Freaks and be "accountable" for something today. You might find that it is actually a good thing, and is something to be proud of.

Wow, what a horrible experience, I feel for you and hope that all turns out well. Get Mary involved, she will make things happen for you, she is the best. I agree with you about deadnet's customer service, it is non existent. I had a similar experience with the E72 box and it took me a year of writing, bitching and complaining to get it resolved, but they finally did once Mary was involved. Until dead productions return to the good old USA this type of clusterf**k will continue and just like everything else, we, the fans and consumers of this music must be the ones to rise up and point out these misdeeds. If anyone else ran their business like this, they would be out of business in no time, but, because they have the goods and music we love and want, they can precharge us, not talk to us, outsource their product to crappy manufacturers and pretty much abuse us with no action taken against them. They know they have the goods, and that we want their product, it's is unfortunate that we are treated this way. I feel for you Judy and hope it does not take you a year to get what you paid for. I, for one, will never buy presale from deadnet again, the cost is too high and the probability of failure is just not worth the time and money. I've got enough dead and if I need more etree is back up and running, I will get it there, it's free and Charlie Miller makes a mean sounding recording.

Just picked up tickets to see The Orb on their 30 year anniversary tour, should be interesting and fun Little Fluffy Clouds anyone? Also picked up Bob Dylan tickets to a sold out show, should be interesting and fun also. Gonna be a great fall. I am interested to see what Bob is putting out nowdays and read some reviews from his most recent tour, seems he's at the piano with no guitar playing at all, has a new band and the stage is set like a living room setting. Also heard he has done rearrangements to some of his old classics that are so different, you can't tell what song it is. Anybody else seen Bob lately? Any comments on the Orb and their live show?

I'm sorry to hear your story, Judy.. I hope in the end it works that it works out as well as it can. I certainly understand how an experience like this can sour the experience.. I am enjoying my box so far.. and 1974 starts today, one of my favorite years. Have you tried sending a PM to MaryE? I hope they make you whole on this..

What a horrendous story-in a fair world you would be compensated for having received such an appalling service. Its one thing to get a damaged product through the post, but its another thing entirely to be then denied the opportunity of being able to talk to someone connected about what has gone wrong. I was lucky enough to get a different, more old fashioned response for a book that I ordered that arrived damaged earlier this year. It wasn't cheap-£75.00-a collection of H.P.Lovecraft's short stories published and issued by The Folio Society. I was out when it was delivered, so the delivery man chucked the parcel over a 12 foot gate at the side of my house, damaging the book. I phoned up the Folio Society, just to tell them what had happened. Someone immediately answered the phone. She also immediately offered to send another book out recorded delivery-at no extra cost to me-which arrived the following day. She suggested I give the damaged copy to charity. What a great way to run a business.

I have been given the complete runaround re: the pre order I paid for months ago. I’ve bought many things from dead.net in the past and I would now advise any deadhead to avoid that at all costs. I purchased this pre order weeks and weeks ago, and didn’t hear anything about my shipment till this weekend. I heard it ‘should’ be out by end of day Monday. I was then told it was shipped, and given tracking numbers that quite obviously showed it didn’t get shipped for days. Now, dead.net claims they sent my package as ‘overnight express’ yesterday. UPS says it is a ‘scheduled delivery’ of next Monday. The 17th. I’ve sent multiple emails to customer service and have received no help! For a pre order of several hundred dollars (both the box set and the Lp). I still have no idea when I’ll get it, and dead.bet additionally lied about the shipping they would use in their email. Don’t ever pre order from dead.net, they will treat you horribly for your troubles. I have friends who purchased this set after it came out and have received it before dead.net even bothered to *try* to ship mine. I’m still waiting for some sort of response here - getting a release multiple weeks late isn’t exactly a preorder. What’s the point. I’m not going to be purchasing any more subscriptions or preorders from here anymore unless this somehow gets resolved...

Is it really good to have each and every Money Money perfectly remastered? ...made me chortle my drink. As for robbing banks.. One of the po-dunk banks a few miles from where I live was robbed a week or so ago and one of my friends works for the bank. ..which got us all talking about it. Fortunately there was a lawyer in the crowd. The plan is to borrow a backhoe from a nearby construction project and just crash through the back wall (where the money is).. have a bunch of raft guides nearby to grab as much cash as you possibly can in the next minute or three and get the hell out of dodge. If you demolish the building while grabbing the lute, there is less chance you will be caught on film and try grabbing a print from a pile of rubble. Makes perfect sense. None of this threaten the teller stuff.. Smash in the back wall after hours, after they are all gone, grab the loot and split. What could possibly go wrong? Now that I think about it.. there is one of those old WWII tanks sitting proudly in the town park about two blocks away from the local bank. We could fill it up with unleaded, fire it up, smash through the rear brick walls of the bank, cash and go and be home by dinner. That sounds more fun than the Money Money listening party. I guess what I was trying to say is there is a reason they only played it thrice. Apologies to all that love this song (I am sure there are plenty). It just never gelled with me. Again, apologies..

Great name for a parody band. After reading about the disc issues, I'm afraid to open mine now. I got into show one last night in a dark room and didn't even think to look. Went back just now. Disc one has scuffs and small scratches. Disc 2 and 3 are okay so far. This is like opening the briefcases in Let's Make a Deal and hoping you don't get f**ked. Here it comes, night in the ruts.

Reach out to MaryE on this board via PM or email Dr. Rhino at Dr.Rhino@Rhino.com. They'll be able to help out and get this resolved. I've had issues over the years that were quickly resolved. Try purchasing the Europe 72 All Music Edition and only receiving one show... They corrected. I've also had bad disks in first May boxset and a couple of Dick's Picks without issue. I would not expect Rhino Customer Service to directly respond on these threads, but Mary will chime in from time to time. I was initially a little pissed at first that I signed up for Expedited Shipping and wasn't going to get it until today, but as Jim says what's a couple of more days, I'm just psyched they're releasing one of my favorite periods of my favorite bands after all these years. We are such lucky fans. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope it get's resolved to your satisfaction.

I am not mistaken that I have never heard of this before. I'm pretty sure I'm right about that. I am sorry for your woes.. it will come. I believe someone else posted here if you paid extra for 'expedited delivery' you can probably get that refunded. I honestly have never heard of this language being used before by dead.net and it's not on my email. I would follow Bobs advice and if you paid extra for expedited shipping ask for a refund on that portion of the costs. What else can you do at this point? Sorry for your woes, no offense meant. Not pre-ordering from Dead.net, especially for items that often sell out before the pre-order is over (not the case for this box, they are still for sale) often means if you want it you have to get it from eBay at double or triple the price. Once it sells out, it will be more expensive on the secondary market. Just my two cents. Edit: Also, check the UPS tracking. For most that ordered this, the first shipping notice was conservative and it arrived before that, the delivery date being adjusted all the while. I do not recall an overnight delivery option available when I ordered mine, just 'expedited' I understand your frustration, follow Bob's advise. He is a kind and wise man. On an unrelated note - does anyone have a backhoe I can borrow?

Wow! Really disappointed to spend all of this money and receive scratched discs. How does this happen? Makes you really not want to buy cds anymore. I have bought every box set the Dead have put out with the exception of the giant Europe '72 box set. This is will be my last one. Disgraceful

Thanks. Yeah this is what I’m sort of falling back to (complaining on here) after multiple attempts to reach out to customer service have failed with no response. I kicked this all off last week after I heard nothing about any shipping despite pre ordering. Folks I know who bought it last week got ishipping notification pretty near immediately after ordering it. I guess they had my money already so why bother trying to treat me properly. Would it not be galling to anyone else that basic purchases seem to guarantee a faster delivery and better service than a pre order? Folks who hadn’t ordered it until after I kicked off my customer service attempt have received it. I only got working tracking info today, and that info claims a scheduled delivery of 8-9 days from now at the earliest despite dead.net claiming they sent it as a next morning package. I ordered these sets about two months ago. If I had known it would be like this, I definitely wouldn’t have ordered at all.

I knew there was a reason I avoided this box. I listened to the "Believe It If You Need It" compilation and was not impressed. The BC show from '73 always drove me crazy because Weir is so high up in the mix, it sounds like Jerry isn't even playing. The rest of the stuff is typical material of the era. No real surprises. Much more interested in September of '72 right now. Etree will take care of the rest. I have more than I could ever possibly listen to. 3 years later and I still havem't fully digested the 30 Trips Box. Now if some sweet '87 SBDs start surfacing and getting released; I'll perk up

Just kidding! 9335 arrived in VA just in time for a hurricane Florence weekend long listening party! Love the box set it's awesome. Very light scratches on discs 15 and 19 but luckily they don't look like they'll effect playing. Won't know till I get to them. I hope their will be plenty more sweet box sets for CDs in the future. Everyone who got a copy, enjoy!

The intent was never to make you out to be a liar.. I said I have never heard of this before. Additionally, mine looks nothing like this, the top is the same the bottom says: Shipped By Tracking Number UPS 1Z910636P237697XXX - Track Package It looks to me you are incensed by the language on the shipping label that it was shipped overnight next morning. Ask for a refund on shipping. I just dropped a new box in my cart to be sure. When you order this the shipping options are: Domestic Standard $11.99 Expedited $15.99 There is NO guarantee that this get delivered UPS Next Morning Express. I never called you a liar nor meant to imply it.. I simply said I have never heard of this before, which is correct. Sorry for your woes man.. I really am.. but you are complaining on how this was shipped. Clearly you select Expedited (which I did not), when you bought the box. It looks to me like dead.net paid extra for your shipping, but your box was not one of the first to leave the warehouse. I hope you get your four dollars back. I really do. Sorry for your woes.. I have not gotten my box either. Sorry for not being upset by this. I'm honestly not bothered at all, what matters to me is the music.. and I have already waited 45 years for this. I have plenty to listen to.

Cub sez: I received mine today (minor scratches n all) but what was most unnerving was the far-away Jerry vocals while someone else is blowing my fillings loose with hers. After reading what a fellow Heads wrote about this release it answered many questions I previously had about the mix. PEACE RE:(pasted from other Deadhead's comment) I got this show in a tape trade about 30 years ago (Portland 1974), and it was incomplete, missing 6 or 7 songs. A few years ago, the complete show started circulating and we all discovered that those tracks were omitted because the vocals were seriously low and I guess someone thought they'd do us all a favor and leave them out. The songs that were left out correspond almost exactly to the songs you mentioned. Sounds to me like they did everything they possibly could to match them up with the sound of the rest of the show. It'll never be perfect, but they did a hell of a job and it's nice to hear it sounding so much better. There's just always shit you can't fix when you're working with two-track tapes.

#05306 landed relatively safely here this afternoon. Box looks great. 7 of the 19 discs have scratches; some are worse than others but at least two won't rip to iTunes. Same thing happened to me with several discs from the GTSL box, and Rhino were pretty quick to replace them, so hopefully they will come through again this time. It's a bummer, but as long as they replace the damaged discs, it's not a major issue. I do hope they inspect the replacement discs before sending them, though! Eager to start listening tomorrow when I have the house to myself.

Here are my print screens. Thanks for the Imgur trick, never used it before.. handy. https://imgur.com/a/mIbqKdK ..and here is language on the shipping when you ordered it. https://imgur.com/a/Le9xiXK Again, never called you a liar nor meant to imply it. ..but there was never a guarantee that you get it the next day and they did pay for expedited shipping for you (more correctly you paid for expedited shipping and they passed it through via their shipping costs). It looks to me like it's all dependent on when they release these boxes from their warehouse to shipping. I still have not received mine myself and I ordered it literally just after it was announced. I have no idea how they decide in what order they release items from their warehouse.. but that is the source of your grief. I have never heard about delivery via overnight shipping before today.. and looking over the ordering process, was this really what you paid the extra $4 for in the first place? Sorry for your trouble.. I will gladly send you a check for $4 if this whole issue goes away.

I'll chip in $2...wow I think I'm gonna build an altar and place this on top....I've ripped all the '73 shows (Both EAC & iTunes) with nary a glitch so I guess they're good to go...the actual CD's will now go back in the box for a bit while I play CDR's in my car and my iPod while I'm acting like I'm working...will work on '74 in a few days...

#14040 arrived safely today. Got thru first 2 discs. Time capsule transparent sound with a perfect amount of stage mics bleed picking up the crowd. It's gonna take me weeks to digest this. Makes me feel like i'm on the rail with a big ol' smile on my face! Thanks Dave, etc. for bringing these archival sounds to us fans.

I mean... it has nothing to do with the price paid, that’s inconsequential. It’s the principle of the thing. And the lack of communication. Why put up with preorders being treated that way?

Nothing remarkable to report. I still have one more Playing in the Band to listen to. But so far, so good.

That's a valid point, something I completely understand and you have a right to be a bit miffed. As for communication, I get the impression they are not heavily staffed and when these big orders come out.. and.. well.. you know. It takes them a while to make good on errors and each time something goes wrong. Still, they do seem to pull through in the end. ..but recommending no one ever pre-order? Well.. there are a lot of items that sold out during the pre-order and the prices were (are) quite high via eBay and the secondary market. Thinking FW 69, E72 and a few others.. fortunately not this box, but you just never know. I have been surprised more than once and once it does sell out your remaining option is to shell-out more money. Yes.. they are a bit screwed up, but don't let it get to you. They almost always make good if you have a valid complaint or something is defective. It's going to be alright and Amazon and eBay do not make a great fall back plan, on this I am confident. I would not recommend ignoring the pre-order. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

My shipping notification also had this on it, however I live in Australia and expedited was not offered for international orders. Mine is scheduled to arrive this Friday which would make it about the fastest ever from Deadnet. 6 days from confirmation it would be if it does arrive Friday. So I got that going for me, which is nice....

Just notified it will be delivered here on the left coast next Monday, 9/17, probably after some folks outside the U.S. receive theirs. That don't bother me none - I'm pretty sure I'll survive. Glad so many are already enjoying this treasure. Play it loud, friends!

Simonrob, close the blinds and stop the pig sightings, its out for delivery!Seems that a few of us living in Yurrup will be anxiously scanning for scratches and blemishes ere the day is over.

According to the UPS tracking, my order had a departure scan in Cologne, Germany at 3:13 this morning and the customs agency in Rotterdam decided that I would have to pay import duties. That was at 3:52. I would dearly like to know how they got the thing from Cologne to Rotterdam in 39 minutes, considering just the flight time alone is typically 50 minutes. I guess they know how important this is!

The UPS depot is only 15km (about 10 miles) from my house, so hopefully sooner rather than later. PS: It is raining here this morning so all pigs have been grounded.

11593 arrived safely without any blemishes or nicks to the shipping container or the box itself. A quick inspection of the box shows no scratches or other blemishes on the discs. If there are playing problems, I will play the questionable disc on other compact disc players first to see if its a disc problem or a player problem.

The damn dog woke me up extra early this AM. Almost like she knew I wanted to get cracking on this. All discs accounted for. Everything looks clean. First show ripped w/o trouble. Floating merrily along to Bird Song right now. The sound on Bertha seemed a little off -- like the mix was shifting and changing during the song -- but then it settles in. Bird Song is sublime. Best wishes to everyone with their ordering snafus. *Fingers crossed* so far I guess I got lucky.

And hopefully this morning. I'm getting a bit paranoid, as people used to say, about the potential state of these discs. It never occurs to me to check new cds for scratches etc-and I don't automatically burn them. Just slot them in the disc holder and hit play. So far, everything I have bought from deadnet. has been picture perfect-except for a couple of tracks on the second cd of the 1973 box-11/9/73. There's a loud scratch noise on "Greatest Story", and then the disc just skips through the track and the following "Bertha" Bizarrely I just accepted this at the time-2008 it came out. I'm not so forgiving now.

Maybe Rhino should look at the cd covers that Nugsnet use for the Dead & Company cds. They work great and look good. Mr. Pete--------------> aging hippie

We were told to wait 4-6 weeks, and normally by the time we get these things on our side of the pond the excitement is over and the discussion has moved on to the next release. Not this time though. UPS just delivered it here in England all in A1 condition.

The way shipping seems to work, through orders on Dead.net. I too, have complained about shipping. I really don't understand with all, the lead time. Why it can't be in my mailbox, on release date, if I pre-order. Pre-order just reserves your place in line. When they decide to ship, your product. They will ship it by the method, you have requested. I have yet to see an actual promise, that any of these orders, could arrive day of release. Whatever the cost. I would like to think they are concentrating on releases, over seas and to the Northern and Southern most area, lest likely effected by Hurricane Florence. Ship to the West, after Florence passes. I hope you are going to be safe, as well as others. Live in Fla., quite aware of what damage can incur.

If you are in her path, be safe. If you are expecting PNW. Make sure to leave a note on door and have a plastic container, for them to place into. Hate for someone to arrive and see melting cardboard on front steps.

The box is beautiful and arrived in pristine condition. First (!)cd I inspected has a viscious and large scuff which renders the cd unplayable, another had a scuff mark which played through just fine, the others seem ok.So, once again I will be contacting customer service for a replacement-which means extra import duties-, but Ill play through everything first so as not to miss anything else. Such a shame any rudimentory quality control would have spotted and fished out the offending cd and obviated the extra hassle, but I guess we are used to it by now. I buy HUNDREDS of cds from Japan and never have an issue, from Rhino nearly every time... BUT, on the positive side, I am not getting any younger and I was expecting at least another 6 week wait.

what a beautiful set, a real Objet d'art.it sounds much better than the SBD tapes that have circulated for years and have all the same mix problems, but now they are much more noticeable due to the new transfer. i just figured out how to get it back in the shipping box, which is a marvel in itself from a couple pieces of folded cardboard. hint, leave the tape and shipping info on the outside box and use a razor to cut the tape, it adds structural integrity to the shipping box for reuse. upon closer inspection, the sculptural cover is cardboard, but the box appears to be laminated plywood. too bad about the typical Rhino Box set roll out. delivery issues, CD issues, download issues... even the LP rollout is flawwed. http://www.dead.net/store/music/new-releases/portland-memorial-coliseum… meanwhile amazon has the vinyl for $109 with 2 day prime delivery.

After spending a couple days with the first show, I'm on to the next. Really enjoying this ride.. My plan was to take even longer with each show, but it's sort of like having a lot of good wine in the house. I can tell myself all I want that I'm going to save them and take my time, but somehow it never works like that....

Don't know why people complain about the mix on the releases. These are the same mixes of shows that have been available to us for years. Why don't you just go to archives and stream them before you buy them. Do people think the vault has different mixes than whats been out there for years? https://archive.org/details/gd1973-06-22.140897.sbd.pcm.composite.dalto… https://archive.org/details/gd1973-06-24.sbd.miller.99852.sbeok.flac16 https://archive.org/details/gd73-06-26.sbd.cotsman.12076.sbeok.shnf https://archive.org/details/gd1974-05-17.sbd.miller.89972.sbeok.flac16 https://archive.org/details/gd1974-05-19.sbd.miller.116983.flac16 https://archive.org/details/gd74-05-21.sbd.belkin.2597.sbefail.shnf

Just been fleeced of £59.60 ($78) by UPS to take delivery in the UK despite having paid Us Postal Service handling up front. I am assuming, as with the last time this happened DeadNet will be refund us poor Europeans the outrageous cost. Dis-chuffed Brit.

This has nothing to do with shipping costs. Did you not know that most countries levy import duty on items above a certain (low) value? UPS do this quickly and efficiently so it does not appreciably delay delivery. Good luck with trying to get UK tax refunded by dead.net!

My box set arrived this afternoon. Cost £50.69 to retrieve it from UPS. Sometimes you pay sometimes they just appear to ignore the tax. I pay when I have to and celebrate when I don’t.The box arrived in perfect condition and four weeks before I expected to see it based on previous orders. The discs look OK visually and I’ve played discs 1, 15 and 18 with no problems. A more thorough listen will have to wait until I get back from Egypt at the end of the month. Just as well it turned up today or who knows what might have happened to it. Always look forward to seeing what will turn up next.

I was just reading comments on the LP release page. All I could think about the 'Side C" complaints was "you guys never heard the tapes before? WTF?".Buuuut I have noticed over the years here that there is a significant portion of the regular commenters who only experience Deadmusic through official releases. They either are internet-ignorant and aren't aware of LMA or the innumerable ways to D/L shows and/or they have never had any involvement with the classic 80s/90s Deadtape-sharing community. Thus, they make statements that leave those of us with much free-Dead experience shaking our heads. Some of these people seem to have entered this world via interest in the new GDM angles on Dead-music marketing: high-quality sound and limited editions. To us old-school Heads these people often sound like they belong somewhere else. But here they are, so just grin and bear it. GDM needs a thriving customer base to keep on selling us Deadproduct. These newbies may seem (to us) to be foolish with their complaints, but their purchases are helping to keep the golden eggs coming! Unless you have been listening to Deadshows for decades, the "warts and all" reality of the existing recordings must be pretty shocking. Most performers' releases are limited to the "just exactly perfect" material. So the ground rules of GDM's endeavor to release LOTS O' DEAD must take some getting used to! I do second your motion: People, if you worry about sound issues, audit the tapes via Live Music Archive or at least read the reviews there.
