"We were in the Pacific Northwest...between somewhere in Washington and some other where in Oregon. The road took us to the lip on a ridge, from where we could see around us for many miles in all directions … It was breathtaking to behold, but as we watched, we had a firm realization that we were witnessing something even more beautiful than our eyes could ever take in … Life causes life. Heaven and Earth dance in this way endlessly, and their child is the forest. And so there we were, epiphanously watching that grandest and most glorious dance of life—of which we are just a tiny part—awed by a magnificence without beginning, without end..."

Bob Weir, “Sell Headwaters—Everyone Wins,” San Francisco Chronicle

The Pacific Northwest offers up a rich feast of land, sky, and water. It is ripe with influences, abundant with symbols, deep and spirited. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that the Grateful Dead played some of their most inspired shows on these fertile grounds. It does, however, sometimes take a breath for the elements to re-align years later. It seems for us, they finally have and we are able to present not just a glimpse of the band's extraordinary exploratory tour through the region, but a two-tour bounty as the PACIFIC NORTHWEST ’73-’74: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS.

For PACIFIC NORTHWEST ’73-’74: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS, we've paired two short runs made up of six previously unreleased shows - P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, B.C. (6/22/73); Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR (6/24/73); Seattle Center Arena, Seattle, WA (6/26/73); P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, Canada (5/17/74); Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR (5/19/74); and Hec Edmundson Pavilion, University of Washington, Seattle, WA (5/21/74). Each show has been mastered in HDCD from the original master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering. The transfers from the masters were transferred and restored by Plangent Processes, further ensuring that this is the best, most authentic that these shows have ever sounded.

PACIFIC NORTHWEST ’73-’74: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS comes in an ornate box created by Canada’s preeminent First Nations artist Roy Henry Vickers (more on this tremendous artist soon). To complement the music, the set also includes a 64-page book with an in-depth essay by Grateful Dead scholar Nicholas G. Meriwether and photos by Richie Pechner.

Due September 7th, this release is limited to 15,000 individually numbered copies and available exclusively from dead.net. You'll want to grab a copy while you can and sit back, relax, and enjoy all the exclusive content we'll be rolling out over the next few weeks.

Mine arrived today. Scheduled for Monday, but the UPS truck pulled up around 5:00. Odd for a Saturday. I saw the driver coming up the driveway with a big box in hand so I met him at the door. "I wasn't expecting this until Monday." So you are why I am working today he responded, clearly not happy. "Do you have any pot you can sell me? It's the Grateful Dead." He turns and walks away in disgust. Those who got the download are missing out on a nice box. Even the kids thought it was awesome. Vguy, the number is in a classy little box between the CDs. Similar to a small jewelry box or some place to hide a key. It comes with a cool passage, distinct in Native American undertones. Very well done. I'm holding off on listening until tomorrow. Watching some old episodes of Parts Unknown. Tony was no Jerry, but he was a awesome dude nonetheless. 10/1/94 is the only show from TTATS that I have listened to past 87. Even then I have only listened to the So Many Roads. I have said many times, fall 94 was the dead cat bounce tour. Unexpectedly good.

...by the way, has anyone figured out yet who "they" are? The grays? The man? The IRS? At any rate, or so I've heard, "they" say that doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Hell, I think it's just being a stone-cold gambler. I buy lottery tickets every drawing, using the same numbers, and goddamn it I'm going to hit big one of these decades. Just you wait and see. I really wish my box had arrived today. Alas, it is not to be and I don't know if UPS delivers on Sunday. I've had those non-descript amazon white vans drop stuff on Sunday though, and that feels like Christmas. Although most of my dead.net WEA product arrives via the Good Ol' USPS, and on our street the mail goes into those group box kiosks. You got your box, and on a special day there will be a key waiting inside for one of the parcel boxes (few, and larger). You're always hoping for a key, and when you see it your heart skips a beat. My theory is that the ubiquitous amazon white vans (Sprinters and the like, windowless) are not adorned with "amazon" graphics for several reasons. For one, they'd attract looters and thieves. For another, we'll all get desensitized to them, and one of these times when one pulls up, you'll run out arms wide ready to embrace yet another Grateful Dead offering, and they'll (it's, "them" again) leap out and pull a hood over your head and throw you in the back. When you wake up, tied to a chair in a cold room with only a single, bare light bulb hanging above you, you'll hope like hell Liam Neeson is about to break in and save your ass. \m/

I have to laugh at these posts.. yesterday a friend of mine sent me an email he got from one of his friends. It's long.. names omitted to protect the guilty. It was written a year or so ago.. so I'm sure it's floated around a bunch. To the author, I hope it's ok to share. The title was Next Level Obsession. ______________________________________________ I love Deadheads with OCD. Not my post but I appreciate the work. Thu Oct 19, 2017 6:49 pm #1 When I was in high school, there was a girl who would always ask me if I had acquired any new Losers of the “sweet Suzy” variety. And so whenever I received a new batch of tapes from some remote part of the country, I’d note any Losers with the “sweet Suzy” verse and then surprise her with one at the next gathering of our mutual group of friends. These gatherings were almost always centrally concerned with new tape acquisitions or new knowledge regarding the Dead. We were a group obsessed with the band and everything swimming through the vast universe of the band, including apparently any Losers with the “sweet Suzy” line. My memory is foggy when it comes to my findings of the “sweet Suzy” Losers, except one distinct time in which I can remember telling her, “Hey, Shannon, I found a ‘sweet Suzy’ for you.” I don’t know which show it was , but I’m pretty certain it was a 1971 Loser. What lives in my memory is precisely where we were and me saying those exact words to her. It must’ve been a revelatory moment for me regarding the rarity of the “sweet Suzy” Losers, for I have never forgotten that moment after 20+ years. Fast forward to a few months ago, in June of 2017, when I found myself thinking of those great tape-trading days of high school, the discoveries, the euphoria of acquiring a new batch of tapes. And for some reason my mind turned to the “sweet Suzy” versions of Loser, and how I would search out copies of this song without a handy Deadbase at my fingertips, nor a more convenient “etree mobile” app which allowed me to effortlessly flip through shows and fast forward to the two particular instances in which “sweet Suzy” is sung with the simply movement of a finger across my iPhone. Wow, how times have changed with regard to searching for a particular part of a song. So a few months ago I decided to complete the project once and for all. I needed to know when “sweet Suzy” died, and I kind of wanted to arrive at a reason for her death. Sadly, I found her apparent death on October 20th, 1974, then realized she had risen from the dead on January 10th, 1979, only to be buried once again for eternity. Even more tragic is the unknown reason for her death. What I did find, however, is an obscure protraction of her death. Think about all the hours I’ve logged listening to “Last fair deal in the country, sweet Suzy!” and the amount of accumulated thoughts about Suzy, what she must’ve looked like to Hunter and Jerry, what she must’ve meant to Jerry on the nights that he sung her into the song with such love and tenderness and longing, what she must have meant to him on the nights that he abandoned her and left the audience singing her in their own empty words, and what he must’ve thought on January 10th, 1979 when he resurrected her one last time. What drove him to do it? The Dead performed Loser 346 times. Only a few of these shows do we not have the recording. I tally 88 known Losers that include the “sweet Suzy” or just “Suzy” line. Remarkably, of the 54 Losers performed in 1971, only one show did not feature the “sweet Suzy” line. That show is 7/2/71 at the Fillmore West, oddly the last show at that venue. The very first Loser performed on 2/18/71 at Port Chester features a “sweet Suzy” in the first slot and a rare “Suzy”-only in the second slot. All three “Suzy”-only versions were sung in the second slot of the song in 1971, but of the three remaining “Suzy”-only versions in 1972 and 1973, Jerry sang it in the first slot of the song. The first show in which Jerry sings “sweet Suzy” in only one of the two slots is the 22nd performance of Loser on 4/21/71 in Providence, Rhode Island, and it appears in the second slot. There are no other shows or patterns in 1971 of note except to say that toward the middle of the year, immediately following the 7/2/71 Fillmore West show, Jerry starts to exclude the “sweet Suzy” line in one of the two slots more frequently. Between 2/18/71 and 5/30/71, Jerry performs Loser 31 times, and he is fairly regular with the “sweet Suzy” line in all of the Loser versions, singing it both times in all but 2 of the 31 times. But once 7/2/71 hits, the remaining 23 performances of the song are variable when it comes to the singing of the line. Between 7/2/71 and 12/31/71, Jerry sings the line twice during the song only 13 of the 23 times. What this means is that Jerry started the slow death of “sweet Suzy” officially on 4/21/71, booted her from the song for the first time altogether on 7/2/71, and then proceeded to ween her from the song thereafter. 1972 sees the demise of Suzy even more. Of the 39 times Loser is played in 1972, only 4 times does Jerry sing “sweet Suzy” in both slots of the song. 13 times he abandons “sweet Suzy” entirely. 1973 isn’t any better. 25 performances, 7 “sweet Suzy” lines, and none of those 7 times does Jerry sing the line in both slots of the song. 1974 saw “sweet Suzy” virtually die. Of the 10 times Loser is performed (remember, there were only 40 shows this year), only 3 times does “sweet Suzy” make her appearance, the last being on 10/20/74 at Winterland, and it’s sung in the second slot of the song. I fitting farewell to the Grateful Dead at the time and to sweet Suzy, whoever she was. And that is all we know of the mysterious girl called Suzy in the song Loser. For the next 4 years and 45 performances of Loser, not a trace of “sweet Suzy” is found – that is, until the first show of 1979, in Uniondale, New York, on January 10th. Making her appearance one more time – and her last time – was “sweet Suzy” in the first slot of the song. It’s so brief and nondescript. If you blink, you miss it in the recording. There’s no emphasis, no powerful resurgence, no eruption from the audience. It comes and goes in a second and a half. And then it vanishes. Ghostlike. Forever. I knew I had never heard a “sweet Suzy” in the 1980s or 1990s, but I wanted to be sure, and so I listened to all the “Last fair deal in the country….” verses (two per song) of all 169 remaining performances. I sometimes dreamed that I’d find one, hidden within a show that was not on many popular radars. I held out hope that there was a version of the song in the post-Brent era that escaped our listening ears because it was a Vince show. No. I sometimes imagined I heard it because I was listening so hard for it. I truly wanted it to be there. I wanted so badly for Jerry to sing those two words again; I’d even take a delayed and whispered “Suzy.” Alas, it wasn’t going to happen. I have thought about so much along the way. I thought how crazy I am for doing this. I thought how empty this project is. I thought how meaningless and stupid and utterly ridiculous….In short, I thought I had perhaps come to an end of sorts with the band. When I began the journey, I actually was listening to 3/24/73 Spectrum and noticed that Jerry had only sung the “sweet Suzy” line in the second slot. And so I wanted to know what other shows in the March/April ’73 period did this. And then I wanted to know all of 1973. And then I decided I’d do all of the Losers and tally them all up. I searched high and low on the Internet to see if someone had already done this. I found no one. But, above all, I felt like I had to do this. I was reminded of my high school years, and always bringing Shannon new “sweet Suzy” Losers. I simply felt it was my calling to know them all. So, Shannon, if you’re out there, and happen to stumble across this, here are all your “sweet Suzy” and “Suzy”-only Losers. Enjoy… Below are the years and dates in which “sweet Suzy” or just “Suzy” appear. After the date, you’ll see a “1” or “2” or “none,” indicating for that particular show where “sweet Suzy” is sung, “1” being the first slot and “2” being the second slot of the song. “None” obviously means neither slot of the song featured this line. If you see a “Suzy” next to either the “1” or “2,” then that means just the rare “Suzy” was sung. For the inaugural Loser on 2/18, I like that “sweet Suzy” was sung in the first slot and just “Suzy” was sung in the second slot. There are a few shows in which we do not have the recording of Loser: 10/21/72, 11/18/72, 9/12/73 (this one is unclear as to whether the song was player there at all, but I kept it in anyway), 9/28/77, and 2/6/79. Other than those, they’re all here. The penultimate note: the Loser from 5/11/78 does not feature a “sweet Suzy” but rather a Jerry “Yeeeeaaaahhh Arrrrgghhhh” which is the only one of its kind. The ultimate note: I have retained the spelling of “Suzy” as this is how it appears in Hunter’s Box of Rain. 1971 (53) 02/18 1 2 "Suzy" 02/19 1 2 02/20 1 2 02/21 1 2 02/23 1 2 02/24 1 2 03/03 1 2 03/14 1 2 "Suzy" 03/18 1 2 03/20 1 2 03/21 1 2 03/24 1 2 04/04 1 2 04/05 1 2 04/06 1 2 04/07 1 2 04/08 1 2 04/12 1 2 04/13 1 2 04/17 1 2 04/18 1 2 04/21 2 04/22 1 2 04/24 1 2 04/25 1 2 04/26 1 2 04/27 1 2 04/28 1 04/29 1 2 05/29 1 2 05/30 1 2 07/02 none 07/31 1 08/05 1 08/06 1 08/14 2 "Suzy" 08/23 1 2 08/24 1 2 08/26 1 10/21 1 2 10/23 1 10/26 1 2 10/29 1 2 10/30 1 2 10/31 1 2 11/06 2 11/07 1 2 11/12 1 2 11/14 1 11/15 1 2 12/06 1 2 12/10 2 12/14 1 2 12/31 1 1972 (24) 01/02 1 2 03/21 2 03/22 none 03/26 1 "Suzy" 2 03/27 1 04/07 1 04/14 1 04/16 1 2 04/24 1 04/26 1 04/29 none 05/10 none 05/13 2 05/26 1 06/17 2 07/18 1 "Suzy" 07/21 1 07/25 none 08/20 1 08/22 1 08/25 2 09/03 none 09/09 none 09/15 none 09/17 none 09/21 2 09/24 2 09/28 none 09/30 2 10/09 1 10/18 1 10/21 ????? 10/23 2 10/27 1 2 11/14 none 11/18 ????? 11/22 none 12/11 none 12/15 none 1973 (7) 02/21 none 02/26 2 03/16 2 03/21 none 03/24 2 03/28 none 05/13 none 05/20 none 05/26 none 06/09 1 06/26 1 07/31 none 09/07 none 09/11 none 09/12 ?????? 09/17 none 09/20 none 09/26 1 "Suzy" 10/21 none 10/27 none 10/29 none 11/10 2 11/23 none 11/30 none 12/06 none 1974 (3) 02/24 none 05/14 1 06/18 1 06/30 none 07/25 none 08/04 none 09/10 none 09/14 none 10/17 none 10/20 2 1975 None 1976 None 1977 None 09/28 ????? 1978 None 05/11 "Yeaaah arrrgghh" 1979 (1) 01/10 1 02/06 ????? 1980 - 1995 None Thanks, xxxxx

....the midi flute Garcia plays is beautiful. Then it goes into the mutron tone we all know, then back into a mutron/flute thing. Jerry plays two different tones at once. Pretty neat and pretty incredible. Miss you. I can see how someone's first show being this one could hook you. God bless the GOGD.

I love it when Bob would say that. I wonder if Deadbase lists how many times he spit that out from the stage. It was tongue in cheek, and endearing. This was a raggedy bunch folks. This music was only ever perfect in it's glorious humanness, flaws and warts and all. I play lots of guitar. There's a thing called, "relicing," where you can pay the Fender Custom Shop or some guy in his garage to scuff up your brand-new guitar and make it look old. Like some clown who goes and buys "distressed" jeans at the mall. Please... my guitars get beat up because I play the hell out of them, and except for my Gibsons (only because the string tension against the angled headstock can snap the neck if they fall over), I don't give a shit if one of the kids knocks it off the couch or a drink spills on it or whatever. I love that stuff. Gives an item character. I will no longer even pick up certain people's guitars. I feel they would experience a cardiac event if my nails (I play with a heavy hand) should leave microscopic scratches in the finish. Museum pieces all, never to be - gasp! - really played or used as the medium of expression they were designed for. Just ask the collectors who keep these "investments" in humidors, to be looked at only, and just don't you dare stare too hard in any one place for very long. I bought a brand-new truck in 2002. For months, I would park at the edge of the lot and struggle in vain to keep it perfect. Once I finally let that shit go, it was a tremendous relief. My $100 Jimmy Page coffee table book arrived damaged from UPS, they'd crushed the box and there's about a 1" divot on the cover. So what? Now when my friends thumb through it I don't cringe if they haven't washed their hands. I understand paying money for something and appreciating it being in new condition, but some of this borders on the obsessive and misses the point. Warren Zevon was just like that, with the T-shirts. Joey Ramone. It's OCD and a few other insanities rolled into one. I respect that we are different, and I don't know if I find these gripes with product minutiae annoying or just hysterical... but I guess with the Dead fanbase, you get that in all kinds of ways. One of my discs does have a flaw, there's like a metallic shriek/white noise in some song. Maybe more than one. I wouldn't know which, because with many thousands of songs I just skip ahead to the next one. I can't be bothered enough to care. It's all about the music...

This morning I got up and put on what I thought was a perfectly crisp, clean white T-shirt. Imagine my horror upon discovering a stray eyelash had fallen onto the left shoulder, and to top it off a tiny wrinkle was discovered below the right underarm. Then, at lunch my Big Mac arrived shoddily assembled. The cheese was unevenly melted and not at all centered on the patty! And the pickles had been hastily thrown on and I think there may have even been a few brown sesame seeds atop the bun.

I got this show in a tape trade about 30 years ago (Portland 1974), and it was incomplete, missing 6 or 7 songs. A few years ago, the complete show started circulating and we all discovered that those tracks were omitted because the vocals were seriously low and I guess someone thought they'd do us all a favor and leave them out. The songs that were left out correspond almost exactly to the songs you mentioned. Sounds to me like they did everything they possibly could to match them up with the sound of the rest of the show. It'll never be perfect, but they did a hell of a job and it's nice to hear it sounding so much better. There's just always shit you can't fix when you're working with two-track tapes.

Just ordered my copy of this classic from Real Gone.....can't wait to put it on the turntable! Free priority shipping with code "DEAL" until October 3rd if anyone is interested....Hopefully that means by Saturday!!! Here is the link again that someone posted yesterday....thank you to whoever that was: https://shop.realgonemusic.com/collections/new-releases/products/gratef… Still have not received my replacement copy of Disc 11, Vancouver 74. This is the only show that I have not listened to in it's entirety at least twice.....What an incredible box this is, voice dropouts and screaching included! KCJ Edit: Spent the last 2 days listening to 09/25/80 & 09/26/80 Warfield Theatre, San Francisco. Two excellent shows with some nice acoustic sets. Have the soundboard for 1st set of 09/25, but had to supplement with audience recording for rest of the show which isn't bad. Listened to 09/26/80 Charlie Miller soundboard on the archive....phenomenal show and my favorite of the two.

... gave me chills. Simply incredible. Hit repeat as soon as it was over. In fact, I'm really loving all of disc 2 of this show. I liked Portland, but I feel it is the weakest of the 3 73 shows, even though that Dark Star>Eyes is killer. Count me in as one who is going nice and slowly through this box, often listening to each show for a week at a time, letting it all sink in. This weekend, on to 74! Peace

Saw this for the first time here. Looks very intriguing. My concern is that there is no mention of what source was used to "remaster" for vinyl. How do we know they didn't just use the CD? No mention at all that they transferred the original reels. Seems suspect to me. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Brookvale Dick's vinyl reissues and they were very specific in detailing the sources and method and did a wonderful job. Anyone have more details? https://shop.realgonemusic.com/collections/new-releases/products/gratef… As far as this Pacific box. It looks like a killer collection of music - I know it is! The box itself is just overkill and undesirable to me so I haven't ordered one. I'd much rather have simple, minimalistic, space saving packaging.

.... count me as one that blazed through this box like a whirling dervish. Now that the shock and awe of the box has passed, time for me to savor. Portland '74 grabbed my immediate attention right away. Gonna focus on that one for a while. Karaoke and all. ...

Dervish (per Wikipedia) A dervish or darvesh is someone guiding a Sufi Muslim ascetic down a path or "tariqah", known for their extreme poverty and austerity. Their focus is on the universal values of love and service, deserting the illusions of ego to reach God. …Reminds me of my first dead show. By the end of the night I had deserted the illusions of ego in search of God and was focused on the universal values of love and service.

That's why I didn't buy this one either. No mention of source makes me worried. When I bought their reprints of Dick Pick's 1 and 2 I found out after I purchased and they shipped to my house and put it on the turntable...that it was simply the CD pressed onto vinyl and not with much fidelity or depth may I add. Fairly disappointing and it's what has kept me from buying any future vinyl re-issues from Real Gone. I know that some of the vinyl they have re-released has been cut from the original masters, they just don't make it very clear when it's not. Somewhat deceptive if you ask me and not really the service these re-releases deserve or warrant.

My favorite A&A is from 12.31.78 -- best Donna scream of all time IMO. And I happen to love Donna's contributions to the Dead, though I've always been a sucker for the combination of male and female voices...

it's so true and it's one of things that makes our community so unique. I get so much joy out of sharing this music, I know that many of you do too. So many generous people here. As an aside, on this rainy Friday I'm listening to DaP24 (8/25/72). Almost forgot how much I loved this show. Nice warm first set..perfect for a morning like this.

I can't remember the Around and Around from 12.31.78, but that show has got my favourite Johnny B. Goode on it...by anybody. Anybody not called Jimi Hendrix, anyway. It doesn't start off too distinctively, but when Jerry takes his first solo the energy level just goes through the roof. The others all stand round him in a circle while he goes nuts . When he stops soloing, the energy drops back gain-and then picks up when he plays his final solo. Incredible.

Having trouble with pops and no music and such on certain CDs. I understand the warts and all concept. Has anyone mapped out the reel changes or other flaws? Having issues with cds 1,9,10 and 12. 2cds from 5/19 unusable, Doc contacted on 5/19, yet to listen to 13 on.

Real Gone didn't release DP 1 & 2 on vinyl, that was Brookvale. They did master from the CD, however they were upfront about it and it was only because the original tapes are lost or destroyed. I also have to disagree about the sound quality. They do sound better than the original CDs - whatever they did, they absolutely made the vinyl release sound better. The other Brookvale vinyl DPs are from the master tapes and excellent quality. Again, Real Gone makes no mention at all what was used for 34. Interestingly, the artwork has the CD mastering credit on the back! Brookvale put out a statement sometime back that their rights to doing the entire DP catalog (which was the original plan) had been taken away and they would only be able to release some of the volumes, which is why they jumped from 6 to 8,skipping 7 for their last release. It's a shame, as they did such an excellent job.

I emailed Real Gone and asked about release date for this as well as whether vinyl was mastered from original tapes or pressed from the CD. Here is the response they emailed: Hello, I think it will be available in stores in November. We are shipping it today. It was mastered from the original tapes. I will update soon on how it sounds. Appears it will be delivered next week some time. KCJ

Thanks for the clarification, I forgot those were from Brookvale instead. Not sure I agree on the upgraded sound but I'll pop it on the turntable this weekend, crank it, and listen with fresh ears. Maybe I was just peeved when I found out they were CD mixes and was looking for inferiority in the sound. Also does mastered from the original tapes mean it's not the CD pressed on the vinyl or is it just business lingo and a grey area way to say just saying, well "everything is from the original tapes." Mhmmm I may have to put this on my shelf now that Ive been reminded that it's not Real Gone that gave me my first DPs vinyls...

There are some issues with the recordings. The quality of the music recordings is overall very good. However there are several recordings with the Portland shows where you virtually cannot hearing any singing. And if you listen to Bob on one of the Portland shows (I think 1974) he says about 6 or 7 songs into it that they are having technical glitches. But did not get resolved until a couple of songs later. I had forgotten that Donna could sometimes be distracting. The packaging presentation is phenomenal. Super coffee table item. Very nice.

The recording is amazing despite some technical glitches. Yes, like many shows from this era, the first song or two has vocal issues....mainly due to forgetting to turn on the vocal mics but overall this is one of the best live mixes of ANY Grateful Dead release. You can hear EVERY instrument clearly and every part of Billy's drums. Bravo for a job well done.

Only just now, this very minute, did I finally notice the layered artwork underneath the lid of this box. Pretty cool delayed surprise. And speaking of layers, I'm really enjoying the "deconstructed" versions of the first few songs from several of the shows. It's a great way for a non-musician to listen to how the music's put together. Onward!

Watching Jeff Bridges on Colbert (sorry, late nite) from last night.. so The Dude starts on a rant preparing for his new role (a priest I think).. so he's researching and the rant drifts to a period he was in the Coast Guard (Coast Guard Reserve) and there was this priest that dragged him in.. so he could play guitar (Dylan was mentioned among others).. so this priest says when you are here.. you are in the house of the lord, not in the military or anything.. So this priest says to him, after church one day.. hey, I have some civilian clothes and.. so we should go out tonight, a night out.. so it ends with this priest from the coast guard drags Bridges off to see the Jefferson Airplane at the Carousel Ballroom in 1968. He spoke of this incident like it did happen and was fact. He seemed compelling and jovial about the whole incident. Thought this tied in tightly to some of tonight's posts and Marty Balin's passing.. ..and now we know the character in the next Jeff Bridges movie is directly related to a priest he met in his military days that is directly tied to The Jefferson Airplane (and just one step removed from the heart and soul of The Grateful Dead) :D Good timing, good Karma.

I guess people forget ,what it was like to make tapes from tapes , that were tapes of tapes , Sometimes we forget how fortunate we have it , all you have to do is wait , and killer soundboards are hand picked and delivered to your house . Furthermore you have the team of artists talented beyond my EARS ,everyone doing their absolute best to deliver , the Dead’s music better than It came to them. The PNW package is so good you don’t want to open it ! When you reveal the treasure inside , again better than I hoped , every perfect note accentuated with the real flaws made as perfect as if you where standing in front of the band. They are giving us the the best of The Grateful Dead on a Silver platter. If you love the Dead as much as I This collection from the quintessential North West tours in 1973+1974 , every note with perfect ,imperfection that’s what you have to accept about this band , you have listen , and be patient, and listen , And then you will here the magic that is the Grateful Dead. Don’t be foolish if you like this era don’t miss out ,for I don’t understand why it’s not sold out , it’s worth the investment ,for the Dark Star alone . The artwork The literature ,the hard work that the professionals do just to give you the best music and

Someone below mentioned the Warfield Dead Ahead / Reckoning Shows. If anyone does not have them yet https://themidnightcafe.org/2018/06/03/the-grateful-dead-the-entire-war… And while we're flying on the Airplane, this is a cool little box set I picked up awhile ago. Its a USB stick, with a booklet. (not CDs despite what the link says). https://www.wolfgangs.com/cds-and-dvds/jefferson-airplane/box-set/ZZZ01… And if you're flying econonmy class, here are a bunch of Airplane shows for streaming. There's a lot of other good stuff on this site too. You just gotta poke around. https://www.wolfgangs.com/music/?t=Jefferson%20Airplane&iem=true Peace

ok, who do you have to notify about defective discs? Anyone got an email address? Anyone? Rhino, you got some explainin' to do. Via Con Dios Marty my friend, now you are truly betwixt two worlds. I was an avid Airplane fan long before I became a deadhead, they were the quintessential San Francisco group when I was first discovering rock and roll. I never got to see the Airplane, but I did get to see the Starship during the Dragonfly>Red Octopus time frame. Never forget Marty and Gracie's duets, they always tried to out sing each other, some times Marty was better, some times Gracie, but it was just so great to see these icons perform. We will never see or hear such music again. I predict that this box set will not sell out, maybe in a year or two, but not right away, just too many flaws, maybe that's why they wrapped it up in such a beautiful box, cause the music is good, but the recording is so-so. Most of the songs are too slow, the China Doll's are almost as slow as a funeral progression, I see why they dropped that tune from the setlists. My request for the next box, no more 70's shows unless they have some that sound great and are recorded great, which I think they are running out of, so, on to the 80's or early 90's, some Bruce and Vince would be wonderful. Matrix if you have to, just do it.

Hey Now, to all of you waiting on replacements. I was able to get replacement discs sent to me, it was not quick but not too hard to accomplish. I will tell you what I did so hopefully it may help: So my box arrived on 9/10 and I got to opening the next day on 9/11. I ended up needing 5 discs replaced. I emailed Dead.net customer service on that same day. I got a late night email response that stated something to the effect that my request would be answered within 48 hours. 48 hours passed and since it was about 72 hours in I emailed customer service again - this was on 9/14. I got a response which directed me to fill out form which was provided through a link in the email. I went to the link which was page attached to Warner Music Group - helpspot it has title WMG Customer Service. I completed the form and hit the submit button, this was on 9/15. Once that happened the page provided my with an access key number that it sated could be utilized to to get updates. The page also suggested that I should bookmark it for updates. Now this is where it gets weird. This access key number did not seem be something I could enter anywhere for updates, not on Rhino, not on Warner, not on Dead.net... The page I bookmarked only seemed useful for me to provide additional updates to my request, so to add photos of damage for example. So on 9/20, I responded to my Dead.net customer service email I received on 9/14 for an update. I provided both my order number, that access key and I explained the situation. I got response on that same day from a customer service rep name Mac, who apologized said that it would be taken care of. ON 9/26 Mac from Dead.net sent me a follow up email stating the my replacement discs were in the mail. I got them on 9/28. So first off all I want to publicly thank Mac in Dead.net customer service! Second for anyone looking to get replacement disc I am going suggest that you may have to just keep up on them like I did. I know my write up was lengthy but I wanted to illustrate what it took for me to get them. I don't think one request will work unfortunately but the good part is that I think you can get them if you keep up on customer service. When all else fails to you can always go to Jedi Master MaryE. I don't want to speak for her, but I know she helped many in the past with this kind of thing.

My dog doesn’t take issues with Donna screams. But, he does raise his head, perk his ears, and slowly tilt his head back and forth while he looks at the speakers during Drums/Space. As for the MIT study Kayak Guy referenced, my dog also poops, and drinks beer, and listens to GD, but that doesn’t make him human. Not MIT, but if you are in the Princeton area, looks like you can buy some high priced releases at this record store. Video posted in January, maybe sold by now. https://youtu.be/C3r37kOUDHo

By Christmas guaranteed. The 1974 shows sound as good as any 2 track from that year. The 1973 shows share the same outstanding fidelity as the 1974 shows. Jerry is a little low on some of the songs on the 1973 shows, but he's right where he needs to be most of the time, including standout moments like Dark Star, Bird Song, Here Comes Sunshine, Playing in the Band, and the Truckin' / Other Ones. They're also rarely performed songs like The Race is On, Box of Rain, Money Money, and the only 1973 Bird Song. Agree with you on China Doll, I'm not a big fan. There are some huge moments in the set with the Bird Song, Dark Star, 26 minute Truckin' and The Other Ones, the 46 minute Playing in the Band, the great Black Peter (also a '73 rarity), a couple of the best Eyes of the Worlds you're ever going to hear in the '74 shows, as well as one of the best Weather Report Suites released to date. It also features shows from early Spring 1973, which we have had nothing from until now. From what I've been reading here, the only real issues with this box set are that there were some scratches on some CDs. I had one and it's been replaced already, easy peasy. Dr rhino and Mary E are just incredible customer service representatives. This box set is going to be difficult to come by in a couple of years, and they're going to be going for 500 bucks on eBay. There's only 15,000 of them, which is around the production numbers for Dave's Picks in 2014, and those shows are pricey now on eBay. Sorry you don't like it man. What releases are your preference for '73 / '74?

With the help of Marye and Dr. Rhino, I was able to get a replacement disc for my one defective disc within 7-10 days. First I sent an email to:Drrhino@wmgcustomerservice.com AND Drrhino@rhino.com Dr. Rhino emailed me back within 36 hours stating that a replacement disc would be sent ASAP. Then, I asked marye for her help in clarifying what exactly ASAP meant. Marye was able to ask the Doctor more specifically, when I could expect my disc, and thus, marye did let me know that my replacement disc was in fact mailed out. I got the disc a day or two later.

the MIT study had 2 choices and dog wasn't one of them, AI or Human, but if your dog likes DrumSpace it's obviously higher on the evolutionary ladder, like Blood the dog from the Don Johnson movie "A Boy & His Dog" . that link seems deceptive and many of the sets are used but in the shrink wrap that they obviously did before video taping them for sale. i forgot what many looked like as they went into my storage room after ripping if they didn't fit on the CD shelves. 30 Trips looks cooler than i remember, the July 1978 box used was $20 more than here new. must be that Ivy League premium ;) are those Ebay prices?
