    Hey Kev.. I just now put my first listen to GSTL to rest ending with the glorious NFA>Comes A Time>Sugar Magnolia: UJB. I ended wrestling with the question.. May 77 vs. GSTL vs. July 78. Your comments fit perfectly into my mind bend.. They are all great.. the energy from July 78 notwithstanding adds a little complexity to the equation. Like having three kids, all different.. I really wouldn't pick between them, as crazy as that sounds. Instead of wrestling with which one in the best (always the last one listened to), I really do get the feeling Dave & Company have pulled out all the stops in releasing 'special' music over the last couple years.. oh, and then there's 30 trips. It adds a little context to those that thought DaP 22 was a letdown. I do think July 78 was a special offering, can't believe its not sold out. What floored me is how under the radar the first three shows were and how good they sounded post Normanization. We are spoiled, and DaP 22 is not a second tier offering. Can't wait till next years special moments. Swing anyone?

    Kevjones -fully agree on the Arrowhead show,from the July '78 box, it smokes every time I listen, and the rest of the box is good also. I really dug the Estimated Prophets in that box in particular, and the art from that box is for sure my favorite. Can't believe that it hasn't sold out yet.

    You described how the played several times in the Spring of '77. Some shows , I think were better: May 11 St. Paul May 17 Tuscaloosa May 21 Lakeland May 25 Richmond June 9 Winterland To name a few. Europe '72 in its entirety was basically flawless. You have to dig hard for missed notes (and Barton Hall has some mistakes (not many, but they're there). I think the 5 I mentioned may be actually flawless. 8/13/75 is also incredible and virtually flawless, although not as exciting a show to me. Veneta is the gold standard. Just saying, Barton Hall isn't that unique for the Dead. I threw up in my mouth a little bit when you compared them to the Eagles. There's nothing special abut that band from a performance perspective. AC / DC accomplished as much. Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh, it's just that the Eagles are the most overrated band this side of the Rio Grandio. They're not even in the same league as the Dead.

    Just picked a a used "like new" copy of the July 1978 box set. Cheaper than offered here on Dead.net Holy cow! I just made it through the Arrowhead show and it totally smokes. So much more raw energy than in 1977. I can see why Dave was so excited about this release when it was being released. I have no idea why I waited so long to pick up a copy. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this one. If the first show is any indication of what is to come in this set, it will be in very heavy rotation for years to come. The packaging is very beautiful as well. Wow!

    Those that received 3cd Cornell show INSTEAD of numbered box set
    Any news? This is my situation, and while yes - first world problems - it is incredibly frustrating. On 5/5, UPS delivered a manila envelope with the 3-cd standalone Cornell show instead of the numbered box set that I successfully ordered back in February, with an order confirmation number, and my credit card charged for the correct amount of the box set plus shipping. Dead.net Customer service gave me a "request ID number" when I called on 5/5, and to date, I've received two vague emails - one on 5/5 saying "sorry, we will send you replacement items", and one on 5/7 saying "sorry, we are working to get the box out to you as soon as possible". I've sent two follow up emails to the last one I received asking for a status update, and nada, nothing, zilch. It's been ten days since I received the wrong item and I made Dead.net aware of the botched order immediately. While I am happy those of you that had disc issues are already receiving replacements, I feel like my situation, which a few others here indicated they experienced as well, should take a little more priority since we didn't get the box set that we ordered in the first place.

    Cornell show - 3 cd set
    I'm thinking about the recent posts about recent comments of this being a safe show. I think after many listens, I would agree. This is like listening to a studio recording. The recording is stellar. I really like the first set. My favorite Morning Dew is the one on the original Europe 72 album. From such a messed up tape, I don't know how they got this to sound so good. I know Rob Eaton put over a day restoring this tape. One of Betty's best recordings. And of course Jeffrey Norman's great mastering. He really likes plangent processes on these beat up old tapes. I got the last 77 box set from 03, 5 really good shows. I was only able to get the Cornell show this time. I have a great copy of Buffalo that one of you nice folk made me, which I love. There are lots of good shows in 77. I was at Englishtown in September, great experience and also very good Dick's picks #15(1st one with HDCD), Talking about HDCD, Barton Hall sounds incredible in HDCD, there is really a big difference in the sound on a HDCD player. So check it out. I hope all of you folk with bad discs and other issues get them fixed soon.

i've seen two of your posts in one weekcomplaining about someone's negative comments-guess what, when someone has an opinion that is not aligned with your thoughts,even if it's about someone setting a price for something they selling or the band is slop before pigpen.its gonna be negative.it's their prerogative to say it's not worth it or no thanks.i think it's your emotional immaturity to anything negative or something you don't agree with.you could have left it to-"that's your opinion and i don't agree."instead you feel it's necessary to put someone down.earth without rain is a desert.

Hi all, A technical issue I'm hoping to resolve: Recently ordered this set, promptly downloaded the CDs to my iTunes collection. Getting 1-2 second pauses between most of the tracks which disturbs the flow of the music. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Gareth

It’s most likely caused by a setting in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences and see what is listed for import settings, as well as for playback settings.If you still can’t fix it then google it, there should be instructions somewhere.

You know, Gareth, it really comes down to what you like about the Dead... When I put in the Dead, I rarely want to listen to songs, so to speak. I tend to go for the long, inspired jams. For this, I would suggest the Winterland 1973 boxed set as No. 1, so far... though in general, shows from the 1973-1974 will be your best bet for this... That said, there are gems of shows throughout the years, though I've never personally been impressed by anything later than 1977. May 1977: Get Shown the Light (All Music Edition) is a great collection from this year. I also really love One from the Vault, Sunshine Daydream, & Dick's Picks, Vol. 14... The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack is an all-too-looked-over gem, too. Finally, if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Pacific NW '73-'74 boxed set while it's still available on this site. When these sell out on dead.net, they price-inflate like crazy to 2x their original cost or more.

Get Shown the Light, the box with the book, was limited to 15,000 copies, I read somewhere.But I can’t find anything on the All Music Edition that’s still available. Can somebody tell me how many of those were printed?

So, I'm totally showing my newbie-ness, but when the formats are digital, which is the best to download? I'm thinking about uploading to iphone for maximum bluetoothing. Also, is the first selection a CD collection of the four shows? I didn't see it listed behind the All Music Edition, so I figured it must be sold out.

16/44.1 is CD format, so you could convert to WAV or AIFF on a computer and burn CDs if you wanted to, as well as have the digital file on a music player.

The higher resolution files are for a computer or music player. If you wanted to burn CDs from those files you would lose the higher resolution that you paid more for.

Hi there,

I downloaded the ALAC of this digital download but when I import into iTunes it is not recognizing the artist or songs and not creating an album. For the same ALAC download for Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: The Complete Recordings Boxed Set it worked perfectly in iTunes. Why does this download now import correctly? Thanks if anyone knows or can help.

You should ask on the Dave's Picks 30 thread…there's more people on there and very few if any on here…hope it helps.

Since they sold out of the regular box set with all the bells and whistles, and had a huge demand, Dead.Net is selling an All Music Edition that "...only includes the 11 CDs in four folios and a booklet of liners, housed in a simple slipcase."

So, still the four shows, just without the special packaging and the unpublished book. This time, the order went through. Nothing on the website about this also being a limited release -- it's not numbered, but they don't specify if it's another set amount.

Hello,
I've purchased the fantastic Lyceum LPs more than a month ago and still nothing arrived.
I've searched for the tracking number done by the GD store on the DHL site but nothing appears.
I've yet written to the customer helpdesk, but I'm curious if somebody encountered my same problem.

Just to state the obvious, they are indeed fantastic records. I am half way through 5/25/72 at the moment - one that no-one really mentions. Probably because of the night after, which is a shame as it's a great show in it's own right. Curious "Good Lovin" - 14min 53 seconds, and no Pigpen rap - he just sings the opening the verses and the closing ones some 12 minutes later. In between we have spot on r'n'b jamming like no-one else.
