    Really, at this point we probably don’t need to lay on too much hype about how wonderful the music is: Chances are, if you’re even considering buying a copy of this stunning box, you already know how amazing the Dead’s tour of Europe in April and May of 1972 was. To review briefly, though, the Dead’s first tour outside of North America took them to all sorts of historic and unusual venues in England, Denmark, West Germany, France, Holland and even tiny Luxembourg. Many members of the Dead “family” came along on what was really an extended working vacation that was designed to both expose the Dead to new audiences and also reward the band for their unlikely conquest of America during the preceding two years. As a hedge against the costs of the nearly two-month trip, the Dead’s label, Warner Bros., paid for the band to lug around a 16-track recorder to capture the entire tour… and we’re glad they did!

    This was a band at the top of its game, still ascending in the wake of three straight hit albums — Workingman’s Dead, American Beauty and the live Grateful Dead (“Skull & Roses”). It had been a year since the lineup had gone to its single-drummer configuration, six months since Keith Godchaux had been broken in as the group’s exceptional pianist, and this marked the first tour to feature Donna Godchaux as a member of the touring band. There was a ton on new, unreleased material that came into the repertoire in the fall of ’71 (after “Skull & Roses” was out) and during the spring of ’72, including “Tennessee Jed,” “Jack Straw,” “Mexicali Blues,” “He’s Gone,” “Comes A Time,” “Ramble on Rose,” “One More Saturday Night,” “Black-Throated Wind,” “Looks Like Rain” and Pigpen’s “Chinatown Shuffle,” “The Stranger (Two Souls in Communion)” and “Mr. Charlie.” (Sadly, this was Pigpen’s final tour.) All those future classics were interspersed with songs from the aforementioned “hit” albums—such as “Uncle John’s Band,” “Brokedown Palace,” “Cumberland Blues,” “Casey Jones,” “Sugar Magnolia,” “Bertha,” “Not Fade Away,” et al — and then were topped off by loads of big jamming numbers — the Europe ’72 tour produced spectacular versions of “Dark Star,” “The Other One” “Playing in the Band,” “Truckin’,” “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider,” “Good Lovin’,” “Lovelight” and even the early Pig chestnut “Caution.” And that’s leaving out a truckload of other tunes, too! There wasn’t a clunker show in the bunch, and many are acknowledged today as classics. No doubt you already have some favorites.

    Through the years, there have been a few releases of material from the Europe tour—starting with the 3-album Europe ’72 which knocked our socks off in the fall of that year, and followed many years later by material from a pair of German shows and the fantastic 4-CD Stepping Out, culled from the group’s eight shows in England. Incredibly, though, only one full show from the tour has come out previously: the excellent 4/24 concert in Dusseldorf, Germany, released as Rockin’ the Rhein in 2004.

    Until now, that is. Jeffrey Norman, who has been the primary mixer of Dead archival multi-track material for the past 15 years (Fillmore West ’69, Ladies and Gentlemen…, Rockin’ the Rhein, Nightfall of Diamonds, etc.) has spent many months toiling over the 16-track masters from the tour, and will continue working on the mixes through the Winter and Spring, employing the high-tech Plangent Processes transfer and restoration tools, trying to get every show to sound “just exactly perfect” (as Bob Weir says) for this release. You might think you’ve heard that intense “Dark Star” > “Sugar Mag” > “Caution” from Copenhagen, but I guarantee you’ve never heard it sound this alive! Mastering to HDCD specs is two-time Grammy-winning engineer David Glasser of Airshow Mastering. Needless to say, all the songs that turned up on previous Europe compilations will be appear in their proper show contexts, and in the case of songs from the Europe ’72 album, without overdubs that were added later (where possible).

    The packaging is, as you might expect, first rate. Each show is its own Digipak, with its own liner notes by top Dead scholars (including David Gans, Steve Silberman, and Nicholas Meriwether) and attendees of some of the concerts, and many never-before-seen photos. Additionally, there is an enormous book worthy of coffee table treatment featuring hundreds more photos and a comprehensive essay by yours truly (Blair Jackson). The box will also contain other memorabilia and ephemera from the tour.

    At $450, this clearly will not be a box for everyone. In fact, this individually numbered boxed set will be limited to orders placed with a maximum of 7,200 boxes produced. As a special bonus, the first 3,000 orders will receive a personalized copy. Due to the huge manufacturing costs (wait 'til you see it! We're doing something unlike any other boxed set release ever!     Hate to neg. out here (so skip this if you loved yer box)
    This product did not come as described. It lacked many of the goodies that were promised and that whole thing was a hype to get this project off the ground with pre-orders. The box itself is very flimsy and the cardboard holders for the discs (instead of sturdy plastic) have already torn, even though I'm very careful trying in trying get the discs out. The cardboard cases don't even measure up to the quality of the Road Trips releases. I just listened to Newcastle and was not at all happy with the sound quality and led to the question: just how much work was dedicated to improving the sound quality of each show? I am definitely not a happy camper and feel we got the cheapest possible product for the money. Yes, I know it's not about the ephemera, but the music but here even the music storage containers do not seem to made to do their jobs, nor is the music much improved. I am leaning toward returning my box based on the reasons mentioned above. Then there was the whole problem of trying to correct an incorrect address that never did get straightened out. I mat return my box for credit seeing how it is such a shoddy product. For $450 they could have provided plastic protective containers and worked harder on making each show sound better. As it was, they turned out the cheapest product they could for the maximum product. I am very diasppointed in dead.net, Rhino and whomever else had anything to do with this..

    Do you have the feeling
    That maybe when the earthquake hit the East Coast there were little pockets of the area that became disjointed in time, say the fulfillment center in PA? Seems like a reasonable explanation for the out-of-sync nature of the release of this box: shipping notices sent after receipt of the package; boxes in limbo; my personal favorite -- cc preauthorization done as promised, received the box and more than a week later, still no charge against my credit card. Not that I can complain much about not being charged, but for budgeting purposes I was planning on this sucker falling into this month's AMEX billing cycle, and now I'm closing in on that closing date. Hmmm...someone call someone at the PA place and just casually ask what the date is.

You’ll then be able to customize your box by affixing your official unique number anywhere you’d like."At present time I do not have any tats. I now know what I will have tattooed on me and where. Youse guys are too good.

Greetings Deadheads: I made a Europe '72 FB page. It will be around long after this thread is gone. I want to talk about the music, great experiences etc on it. No bashing the powers to be. Got to love the capitalists. As Mike Douglas said- "Turns out it isn't illegal, just immoral". I know I appreciate Ebay for the merchandise I would possibly never have known about. But always keep in mind- let the buyer beware. So I do a lot of research, not just take the sale's pitch as the rock solid truth. Took me a long time to get a Fillmore West but I knew they always show up there. Right place at the right time so to speak. So, hopefully, the security controls are in place to protect the buyers from being taken to the cleaners. I pray the buyers know of the music only option, seems the sellers don't mention it. The double whammy with the Fillmore West Complete was not only a limited, numbered set but I think the words 'never to be issued again' were in several proclamations.

I have read waaayyy too much of this topic and I feel for everyone who missed out (myself included) however, when I first heard that they were putting together a box set of vinyl (first five albums), I wet myself, almost. Then as time went on and it was released as a NON-NUMBERED box set, I put the idea of purchasing it on the back burner. Why? I guess because I felt that I could get it at any time (from dead net of course) so I guess my point is, if this was just some box set for $450 bucks that you could get anytime, GD would still sell 7,200 or ten times that number and this thread would be five pages long versus 178 and counting, there would be some people who "HAVE TO HAVE IT" and others who would be content owning a "copy" or "digital only" version without the bells and whistles, this is marketing at it's finest. Sending an email basically "fishing" to guage interest level turned into 7,200 sales in two days which equates to selling about 150 of these per hour. Now, if we had recieved notice of the upcomming release, AND THEN given a date of purchase down the road, I believe most of the complaints here would not be so bad and people would not have felt left out. As for the vinyl box set, I still plan to purchase it, but if I wait any longer I may have to resort to EBAY :) (not likely) Maybe by the time I do get this set, I will have saved enough money to travel Europe (for the first time) and I will have all shows un-compressed on my ipod and I can re-live the whole tour. After several years of trying to get on the dead.net email spam distribution, I FINALLY got my first spam. Either my last complaint to customer service bitching about missing the E72 spam or more likely from registering for this forum. Got something from dead.net today saying RT4#2 is shipping! Yeah! Hopefully this means next time I won't miss out like I did on this big E72 release. Only a couple of more days until box set codes expire. If anyone has an extra, please PM me, I'd really like to get my hands on this box. I need a miracle!

as far as I'm concerned this is a legit trade but a private matter and I'm staying out of it, as facilitator or otherwise, sorry. Feel free to work it out amongst yourselves as seems reasonable to you; I would recommend holding off until everyone has the physical goods for all the obvious reasons, but it's your transaction and your call.

Hey Nicholas, that was a very cool response, thank you. I'm understanding your initial frustration a bit better. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and maybe someone will send you a code, or one will become available via the system. I don't disagree with you that this could have been handled better. I think everyone can agree on that. The good thing is, everyone will at least be able to buy the music only package. I wish you the best man, and if I can help you I will.

yes if you have an extra or e-mailed many times and got extras..please e-mail me one and i'll say prayers for you and your family everyday until i perish...i will pray for your offsprings etc etc...meaning i will be very thankful...i haven't been able to get e-mails sent to me from this site...i registered 10s of times, so i'll have to keep checking here for the rest of my life...if i check in once a week i wouldn't miss anything...maybe not if it sold in 4 days...if you remember the fillmore took longer to sell out...i think it did anyway...anyone remember how long it took to sell out...this took only 4 days which proves it's an amazing set...considering the setlists and the quality of the shows that we've already heard it's an amazing offer.

I realize that frustrations abound, from server crashes and missed opportunities to limited editions and commercialism. However, from my perspective, I think dead.net and TPTB have acted with integrity and diligence throughout a mess which was obviously unexpected. I was fortunate enough to get a code for a personalized set, but for whatever reason when I tried to pre-order, it didn't work and my code then became unusable. Over the course of the next week, I benefitted from the patience of customer service, the advice and support of several 'heads on this forum, and the assistance of the indefatigable marye, which eventually resulted in the reactivation of my code and my reservation of the set. In spite of all the problems, an entire community (or a significant part of it) came together to help make things for people like myself--if not just exactly perfect--better. I'm grateful. I've been lucky enough lately to make the cut with these limited releases (E72, FW box, RT bonus discs). My happiness at this is directly proportional to the dismay I felt so many times in the past after failing to score tickets to shows because I was either too far back in line or just too damned broke. I was bummed then but I didn't complain, so I'm guessing I wouldn't now if I hadn't been lucky. You win some, and you lose some. I can live with that. I'll continue to support these unique, somewhat epicurean releases for one reason. Although I've eschewed vinyl because I prefer digital fidelity (yes, I know...a heresy to some), I do miss the grand "object" that used to accompany the music...those large works of art that enclosed the record, the gatefold with photographs, the picture sleeve with lyrics. I download music only occasionally (FLAC preferably, mp3 if there's no other choice), but I will/would bemoan the day when owning music does not involve holding something in my hand. By the way, I like the idea of sharing my good fortune in reserving this set by donating to Rex, so my $10 preceded this post. Cheers.

hopefully when it comes time for the music only version you can just order it from the store without a code...now try using gauge in a sentence...to gage or gauge it means to predict properly...gorge means charge accordingly...your stranded on a desert you charge 40$ for a bottle of water...this box set wasn't gaged properly because in only 4 days it made it's maximum, they gave until April 1st, if they didn't get 3,000 by then they would've cancelled this box set...imagine that...it was that much of a question of even happening...now it's definitely going to happen...the only questions are the versions to follow...now tell me the rules of when to use "IS" and "ARE" there's always a grammar expert on an internet site to make sure everyone is using correct grammar...whatever happend to internet jargon...OU812...OMG...LOL...TTYL...there's probably a few more of those.

I was fortunate enough to get the Europe 72 Complete w/extras but I was too late for the fillmore 69, Winterland 77. It is time to reissue the Fillmore 69 Complete w/bonus on a pre-order basis and the Winterland 73/77 for that matter. The market is there. Just look at the obscene money the fillmore 69 10 cd is selling for on ebay. Obscene!!!! A modest proposal for Dead.net: reissue these with the goodies, bonus disc etc. on a pre order basis. Dead.net makes money and fans are happy. Perhaps the same for the Road Trips w/bonus discs. If it will make the sticklers happy you can change the color of the package to distinguish it from the old one, or put the words 'reissue' on the new product. Sure there will be fools who bid on ebay for the original when a 'replica' is available. There will probably be some geeks, nerds, schmucks, trainspotters, who must have the original which they will covet in their basement room while their eighty year old mom -- they still live at home their mom -- cooks them some meatloaf, but many fans will have the joy of getting a copy of those truly fantastic releases. And even if Dead.net said there would only be x amount of these things made . . .. Tough! Just change the shade of the color on the Fillmore 69 10 cd box set, for example, or put a counter sequence number on it, reissue, replica, etc.. Hey all is fair in love and war! And Economy/Commerce is war. I marvel at the 'music is free' gate crashers in Festival Express and want to scream: Get a job ya' bum! Re release Fillmore 69 with bonus disc as pre order, pre pay and we'll produce it deal. Now, please.

got the '77 box last fall, that is. I remember he was surprised because he thought the bonus disc was just during the preorder, or was otherwise limited but when he opened the box, there it was!

How is anyone here being gouged? Be specific, and remember to end every point you make with the words "even though the music is available to everyone at the same fantasticly ridiculous price." You are no more nor less faithful then any other person here who got a limited edition personalized box set, a limited edition box set, a music-only version or who decides to buy one on eBay. You have been separated by factors involving either luck or wealth. Sometimes both. However, you are not separated by access. All have equal access. Therefore, you are not being gouged. Further, you are not being gouged because what you feel you are entitled to is not food, water, medicine or shelter. It's music. When you're gouged for a gallon of water in the middle of a flooded city half underwater, come see me. That's gouging. ================================== When all else fails, success is all that's left.

Well the 69 Fillmore West box is history - for now, we hope. But perhaps I misread the Dead.net listing For Winterland 77. I thought that there was no bonus disc, tour button, etc.. still available??? I would be happy to ind the bonus disc, even without the button, etc. I'll go and check it now. But how do you guys feel about the re issue of Fillmore 69 with bonus disc? Is it too late? I do not think so. It should not be a 'rare stamp collector' thing, like the stamp with the upside down bi-plane on it. I think Dead.net should make it available as a pre-order and when x amount are reached they could re issue it. Dead.net makes money, fans are happy. Win-Win! Except of course the selfish, smelly, ripe, pee eww (sp ?), collector geeks in Mom's basement -- shut up your meatloaf is coming-- and eBay hawkers. Dead.net seems to have underestimated the demand for The Europe 72 Complete with extras and lost the opportunity to make more money. Even though I was fortunate enough to get The Europe 72 Complete with extras and personalized I have no problem with Dead.net producing more despite what they initially said. I didn't say this site gouges...i said the sellers on EBAY and i know it exists because i saw 1099$ for a europe box set 1972 which doesn't come out until september...we know EBAY laws by now and this is a scam...but i do think it's a responsibility for the grateful dead people to make sure their fans are getting this boxset if they want one...and i have the 1969 and would be glad if it were issued again and don't feel the need to know i have priceless set and if lost monetary value i would be okay with that because i don't intend to sell it...actually i was thinking of taking it with me to heaven when i go...who's to say i can't take a box of cds when i go?? I don't really see the point in arguing at what is gouging and what is not...i just think everyone should be able to purchase this set if they choose to...some might say the price is too much and it is alot of money...some might say they only need a couple of shows from this time period and they're out there already...i think there was a dicks pick and 3 other releases from this time period...1 a comp with overdubs so that might be pushing it a little but a release from this time period nevertheless

you are right in a way, but that tiny percent still represents more than 20 individual deadheads who really wanted what was offered and could not get it because of the profiteers (is that an acceptable term?). All of this reminds me of the Pokemon craze my daughter went through a few years ago when 8 to 12 year old kids were panicing trying to "Catch 'em All" collecting, trading, and buying Pokemon game playing cards. Now I will admit that I have several hundred shows that I have been given, traded for, downloaded, and copied from various sources over the years in addition to purchasing most of the official releases, but the level of emotions displayed here has become quite silly. Sure I'd like to have all of the Europe shows in pristine recordings but I'm not going to drive myself nuts because I couldn't afford this particular release. Those that are able to get the limited box set, good for you. Those that can afford the music only set, way to go and enjoy. Mean while I'm happy with the copies of most of these shows I have many of which were copied from the original 16 track masters onto DAT then mastered and seeded to etree. If you missed out and would like to get very acceptable copies of this music they are all in the GD 1972 project parts 1 thru 4. Yeah it takes time to download, but you will enjoy the music way before September. On the BUS since 12-29-1968, and I'm never getting off. Why, if even one deadhead misses out on the geegaws, it's a Very Sad Thing. There is only one solution: every single thing that's ever released must be kept in stock in perpetuity. Doo-dads, and don't forget "personalized" (though hopefully not misspelled)....hmmm, if misspelled is the set then worth $10 grand on Ebay? "Rare, personalized, Grateful Dead Europe '72 Box Set, all inserts, books, stickers and doo-dads included. Buyer's requested personalization was misspelled at the factory, making this a one-of-a-kind the will NEVER be duplicated." But then again, I own a CD of Terrapin Station that has classical music on it (which I've never tried to ID) instead of the songs listed on the disc. Worth squat, except as an oddity...

New email from dead.net sez "The Skeleton Crew Shop" will have goodies like "the latest and greatest t-shirts, jewelry and more." BUT, "these unique designs will change monthly"!!!! So if we miss it, it's gone?? How much more unfair can they get? Bet those "unique designs" turn up on eBay (a limited subsidiary of dead.net, probably), at outrageous prices. C'mon dead.net, give us a break -- if a shirt is popular, keep making them as long as we want them -- or are you just trying to alienate us and drive us into the arms of the shirt scalpers? ... I was at my junkie buddy's house and he wiped up some blood with a rag, or so I thought until I saw the skull & roses on it. When I unwadded the tattered thing, I saw it was a shirt I'd never seen before -- he said he got it online. I Never Got That Email, people!! I guess some of us are just more elite than others. That doesn't make it right, though.

We all would love to be sweetness and light, and everyone should have what they'd like, and no one should be denied. But. Reality intrudes. The market isn't there. Keeping everything available all the time is a prescription for commercial disaster.

I wouldn't recommend keeping everything in print all the time as it's not possible with elaborate sets...the BEATLES when they 1st announced their mono said only 10,000 copies world wide, obviously the demand was greater than that...so they said we'll go into production after the initial release...same rules apply here...the grateful dead can announce a sign up sheet and go into production as fit...obviously there's a demand because 300$ for the fillmore is a bargain price...supply and demand...the trouble with alot of people is that they're willing to accept anything thrown at them...they accept the fact there's 10M less jobs in the states than 10 years ago...they're willing to work for alot less than they did 10 years ago...if we were France or most European countries we would've had a revolution by now...it seems to me most people are happy with ipods and they're inferior to CD especially HD which the Dead use most of the time...also the Dead don't have to answer to anybody they can do what they want...i'm sure dicks picks isn't some high end label's idea...Rhino has a say in it but the Dead is their best retro act they have, they have the Monkees, the Doors, Tim Buckley they're starting to find stuff on him...the Dead has to be their pride and joy.

to gouge or not to gauge, that is the question, is it better to have the FW box, or trade it even up for the 72 box, should I be sad that the ptb offer limited runs of cd's or shirts, or stickers, or would it be better if I could go to the store and buy it anytime I wanted it? could you imagine the amount of stuff that would be laying around deadland if I could still get that killer tshirt i got at that 80 show, out of print for decades. How about that mobile of the Terrapin Station album that I scored from that record store in 77, out of print for decades. Or how about that popped ballon from the NYE show in 85, now that should go for big bucks, right? Come on, gouging? Because it is limited? I always thought that the limited availability of Dead memorabilia added to the experience and mystique of the band. "The Wheel keeps moving and you can't slow it down..."As far as ebay, unfortunately, that might be the only place where you will see any of these "collector's items" ever again.

I would not suggest that the Dead keep the shelves stocked with everything ever produced. It is the pre-order marketing of Europe 72 complete that is an intriguing possibility for reissuing Fillmore West 1969 10 cd,etc.., or even more Europe 72 then the 7200. The music only is a nice offer since Dead.net does not want to go back on what they initially said, but it is ok with me if they produced more than the 7200 if they deem it economically viable. There seems to be a demand, but due to Dead.net keeping their word of 7200 only there is no more supply. The music only was a good compromise. Yet even though I was fortunate enough to get one of the 7200 it is OK with me to produce more than that because the demand is there. Dead.net's homepage says Europe 72 complete exceeded the expectations of even the most faithful supporters of this project. rrot: "The market isn't there. Keeping everything available all the time is a prescription for commercial disaster." Of course the shelves should not be permanently stocked this is where the pre-order marketing concept could be very useful to both Dead.net and the fans. If Dead.net deemed it economically feasible then it would be a great thing, despite a few collectors and eBay sellers grumblings. It seems that there is a market for more Europe 72 Complete than the initial 7200 hence the offer of music only editions and maybe there is a large enough market for Fillmore West 1969 10cd. Only Dead.net can figure it out, that is market demand and cost, and the pre-order/ purchase before production is a good way for the band to make some money and fans to get some musical joy. If they do release a NYE 1985 than the popped balloon really should be included IMHO. LOL!

So you are the first, I think, to (somewhat coyly) admit that you somehow dig limited edition items. Got your flameproof suit on? But deadegad's point is legit: the pre-production pre-order mechanism tested here on E'72 might mean All Sorts Of Interesting Things Can Happen! I for one am not hoping first of all for reissues, but they do have their place. And the LP reissues I think show it can happen. I won't buy 'em, but I won't complain about it!

Unfortunately, the credit card I used for this order was compromised and AMEX had to shut it down. When I called Cal Dead to let them know about this, I did not get the warm fuzzies in regards to them knowing how to deal with this. It's so bizarre to me that an e commerce company (dead.net) in 2011 has such a hard time with taking orders and knowing how to deal with the small complexities that come with it. The agent at first told me to call back in August before the product ships to provide them with my new credit card...I asked him what would happen if I forget to call in August and they go to charge me for the box set...shockingly enough, he told me that I might lose the box set...he then told me that he can try generating a new order code, and then cancel my existing order so I can re-order...I sure don't have a good feeling about this...

Welcome back! On the other hand, indeedy! Downloads and Why they've been so disregarded by GDM, is a good topic. Once upon a time there was "Full Show Downloads" -- they gave us two of them around the time Road Trips was started, then it just died without notice. I begin to think that it's just part and parcel of the general technical malaise here. There's ordering glitches on every new release; always broken links and broken files at the Tapers Section; web pages are constantly up with stale info, etc. (And yes, we're thankful and appreciative when these things get fixed, but still, no one could deny it's an ongoing problem.) I wasn't on these boards when "Full Show" briefly happened -- did people complain that they couldn't have the awesome packaging, was that it? Why did that idea die? Maybe people just spoke with their $ and it was, despite the apparent advantages you outlined, a money loser?

Yeah the direct download series seems to have faded in popularity. It might be that they were almost certainly MP3 format. As we know from bt.etree, Lossless, Dime, etc.., tapers and traders frown, to put it mildly, on MP3. FLAC and WAV are the only way to go. I can not really tell the difference although I have only compared and contrasted one or twice. I do know people who really can tell the difference. It reminds me of an All in the Family episode in which three colas are lined up and Meathead is able to ID them as Coke, Pepsi and RC in seconds flat much to Gloria's chagrin.

MP3 is ok on an Ipod in the tube.For commercial hi-fi devices flac files & cd are the way to go On hi-end hi-fi flac 24, HDCD & wax is the good option.

I'm guessing here: perhaps the demand for downloads via dead.net was not enough to justify the expense of the servers. Sure, you'll see posts complaining about the lack of download options but how many of those people are there? Dozens? Hundreds? I'll bet it's in the hundreds at most, and that's not enough potential customers to support the ongoing server expense. Looks the the dead.net folks have licensed out the downloadable GD catalog to the folks at nugs.net, including the remastered studio albums, all of Dicks Picks and all of the Roadtrips Download Series, with both MP3 and FLAC options. Don't see "Rare Cuts and Oddities" though, surprising more people haven't been bitching about that being out of print LOL.

Not sure what happened to the downloads. If it was anything like 30 days of dead, I can see why. Those were very poorly id-tagged. If they want to get serious about downloads again, they should take a page from livephish/nugs.net, those guys have it together. Actually I think the dead download series is still available on nugs.net. For E72 release, if downloads were made available, my preference would be: Full Box Set > FLAC Download > Music Only CD (assuming FLACs were offered cheaper than physical CDs) OR Full Box Set > Music Only CD > FLAC Download (assuming CDs were made same price as FLAC) Well, alas, cheaper FLACs are not an option and Music Only CD is not fairly priced compared to full box set, so I will probably miss out on this one. I am still hoping that a kind head will float me a miracle code for the magical box set though...

You can read all about them here, but the links do not work any more http://www.dead.net/features/release-info/new-full-show-downloads There were lots of complaints (surprise surprise) this time about the releases being significantly off pitch (as there were also for the Road Trips from 79/80). Maybe they got so fed up with being criticised they gave up with the idea. This is for information only, if we get into another debate about pitch correction heaven help all us fools.

When Jerry passed, I took an extended break from the boys. Then found an old Steal Your Face cassette in my wife's Jeep console as I was searching frantically to get Foreigner out of my head. Blew off the dust, stuck it in and never left again. Probably the greatest Cold Rain & Snow ever.

I got Steal Your Face on CD via eBay (paid way too much for a new copy) a bunch of years ago (the LP I had didn't make it through the 80's LOL), before it was released in HDCD in '04. Doesn't sound too bad, but the movie soundtrack is way better.
