    Hey everyone!
I grew up in Palo Alto, started going to shows in the 70's. My early hometown experiences were Reconstruction and Brents first show at Spatan in San Jose. The fellas got me into playing my own stuff and I am still as interested in listening to Grateful Dead music as when I first heard "Garcia" in the mid 70's. Come hear my stuff at www.robcork.com Rob

ZacThanks for the site. I want to thank all my sisters and my brothers for keeping the faith, may it leads us through the darkness. I joined the family in '71 and still love the music. Over the next 24 years I caught over 100 GD mostly CA shows plus many GD spin off bands. Living by SF now and still like live shows, rock and and other good music. Long live music, long live the Dead By the way will the band known as the "Dead" ever play again? I'd pay to see them!

Hello to you all! Here I am in St. Augustine, FL, flipping through all the SPAM and well here right before my eyes the newly revised DEAD.NET!!!! Hurrah... Ran out of time for the other one, but I sure did love the printed paper that came ever so often. I still have them all... Through the years starting about 71- I was hooked on the studio albums. 1972- Dawnwood Cove-Memphis-dancin like there was no tommorow to TRUCKIN with my best friend/lover/soul mate. Song became ingrained in my soul... truly ... the words mean even more now, "What a Long Strange Trip It's Been" Early 80's we had huge parties and always tried to play "Wake of the Flood" but the horrible truth was at the very end it skipped so we never heard it all! But we never put it away.. we just dealt with it. Imagine the fun when I finally got the tape and could listen to the whole thing. Funny I always think of those days even now when I play the CD! Fast forward a few years and I had the great pleasure of seeing the boys at the OMNI in Atlanta, oh about 1980 something... For the first time, I really understood (or as close as anyone can) the connection these guys made you feel with them. Life itself kept me from selling everything I owned to follow them like a vagabond. Although I wanted to physically, I chose to bury myself in the bootleg tapes that were whizzing around. Saw them again in Tampa a couple of years before Jerry died. It was a great show, the greatest I had ever seen or been to. Being a Jerry girl, I was heartbroken, still am........I know he was off and on.. but his genius never ended and never will... Today he sits above my desk with his guitar in hand framed in tribute and truly at times feels like a good friend of mine. One that will live on in my life because I literally grew up with him! I always have a stealie or a bear somewhere and when by chance someone else holds a similar badge, I know they are a kindred spirit and I have to smile and sometimes even give a little twirl (if Im not driving)! The new formations are great. I love them all and listen to everything possible when I can. I also love Bruce Hornsby, did before he even played with the boys! Maybe I will make it to Bonnaroo some day! It is very close to my hometown! For now when I'm feeling the slightest bit down.. I put Jerry on and let him sing my blues away! My whole world changes and it's like I know a secret that I wish everyone else could know so they could be happy too! Ok... I am long winded.Nice to get all of this out of my system though! "Strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hand, Everybody's playing in the heart of gold band, heart of gold band." Yeah! marshajmellow P.S. I can play Eyes of the World on my guitar at least 15 different ways!

    Yet another intro :)
Hi all, Just got back from holiday and found the mail about the new dead.net -- signed up right away, of course! (While travelling, I dropped through Cairo and caught the pyramids. Sitting watching the sound and light show thing, all I could think of was "Gee, it must have been cool to see the Dead here!" :) Anyway, I'm a relatively late-bloomed Deadhead, freely confessing to have gotten into the band via seeing the "Touch of Grey" video when I was 16 or so, as well as various "Summer of Love" documentaries running in 1987 that mentioned the band and had some old clips of interviews and stuff. I bought In the Dark ('cause it was new, and had the song I'd seen on TV) and Live/Dead ('cause it was from back in the day, and you gotta hear a band's live stuff anyway to really know what they can do), and I must have listened to that "Dark Star" about 9 times in a row trying to get my head around that, trying to hear all of what was going on, picking up the threads in that conversation .... Well, I was hooked! :) Never saw that many shows, but my first was the 29 March 1990 with Branford Marsalis playing. What a way to start! I saw a Giants Stadium show in June 1991 (don't remember which one, though I think the 16th) and I think three of the 1991 Boston Garden run (only remember the 25th, for sure!), and Franklin County Field was the last in 1995. I think I might have seen another Nassau Coliseum show sometime in 1992 maybe ... But I was never really keeping count! :) Since 1995, I've mostly lived in the UK, and caught Ratdog here once a few years back, but otherwise I've just followed the various Grateful Dead Family doings as best I can from afar. I expect to move to South America (Colombia) later this year, so I guess I'll be increasingly relying on the internet for buying music downloads as well as communications and news on the scene in the future! Luckily, that all seems to be coming along, these days. I dig all kinds of music -- folk, world, Latin, rock, classical, heavy metal, you name it! -- but the special place in my heart for the Dead has always stayed with me. Cool to be here with y'all! :) Cheers, Carl -- http://www.carlaz.com/ http://www.myspace.com/carlsefni

    Who I Be
Hey everyone,My name is Sean, a prophet on the burning shore and I got on the bus in 1990. I regretably only saw one Grateful Dead show with Brent Mydland on keys. The following five years were spent seeing shows all over the west coast and trying to squeeze in some work in between. In all, my show count is 50+ Grateful Dead shows and 25+ Jerry Garcia Band shows (lost some ticket stubs along the way so not sure exactly how many). I wish I would have quit working to follow Jerry and the Boys all over this great country of ours but alas I never got to see any east coast shows. Some of my most memorable times were either at shows or on tour. I miss looking forward to my next Dead fix and can't believe it's been so long. Sam Boyd(vegas),Shoreline(Mt.View),Oakland Coliseum,Henry J. Kaiser (Oakland),Autzen Stadium(Eugene),Cal Expo(Sac),LA Sports Arena,Warfield(SF).... are the places I remember fondly. Saw a bird with a tear in his eye walk to n'orleans my oh my..... I miss the music most of all and of course the kind folks I met along the way. Dead Freaks Unite. Life may be sweeter for this I don't know....see how it feels in the end.

Hey Now, I'm Faith and living in Hollywood. Saw my first show at Shoreline in Oct. of 89, just turned 18 and hit the road with a couple of friends. WOW what a scene, everything that came by we took, ate, smoked, and whatever else. By the middle of the first set I was wasted beyond my belief! Not knowing then what I know now, education is a wonderful thing, rock med and all. I found my way back to the car and some kind people in the lot helped me out tremendously. Thank You kind souls. Even with that semi-bad experience I was hooked. Went to my next show the next year at the Fablous Forum and kept going. I eventually racked up 19 Dead Shows and 5 Jerry shows and was grateful for each and every one. I never went to any East Coast shows, could never afford it and never had the guts to just go, so most of my shows were LA, SF, and Vegas. What magic and pure delight! I miss those days but not forget them. Most of the time you can find my man Steve and I at Cubensis shows in southern California, cause we cannot let the Dead die. I think I have said enough for now nice to met everyone and hope to talk with you again. Faith

but you can't take the Philly out of the Girl I know we're one big happy family here but I just read a post from my brother! You can disregard the announcement that the new site was up - obviously you all ready knew and didn't tell me. For a long time I didn't think that I was "qualified" to be a Dead Head because I'd never seen them live (as if that matters) but when I finally did get to see them the first time on 3/27/87 I knew that I had been all along. They opened with "Shakedown Street" that night and it from that night forward that song to me will always be about Philly. Don't forget Mom's birthday is tomorrow!

Hi, my name is Hal. My 1st memory is of a 4H dance with a band when I was 2 years old in 1958. I have been hooked on music and the magic that surrounds it ever since. I grew up in the woodlands, wetlands, prairies and cornfields of the Midwest. 1st heard the Dead in 1972 - Skull and Roses - I was moved, then Europe 72 - I started to fly, then Anthem - the mind was boggled with wonder, then Live Dead and it all became a part of my soul-I had touched a boundless source. 1st show was in Cedar Falls, Iowa Feb. 5 1978 - last Disc of Dick's Picks # 18. Went with my brother and wife - we still go together to shows. I love nature in all its moods- spend as much time in it as possible - in the wilds of the Northern Rockies where I live and in my domesticated vegetable garden. Am deeply ingrained in a world of literature - especially poetry and especially the beats; the visual arts-especially Asian and Surrealism and the poster art of the Fillmore West and Avalon; and music of all types - 60's San Francisco Bands, the blues, bluegrass, classical, folk, jazz, early punk and all the great new jam bands. The Allman Brothers are my other favorite band but also listen to lots of Coltrane, Emmylou Harris, Joan Baez, Miles, Dylan, Oregon, Beethoven, Bach, Minutemen, Husker Du, Stevie Ray, King Crimson, Hendrix, Leo Kottke, Hot Tuna, Phish, Widespread Panic, Gov't Mule and Steve Kimock. Remember John Cipollina! Mike Stern is my new favorite. I have been an activist in the environmental movement since I was 16 and am currently involved in wilderness, forest, and rare and endangered species issues. I meditate daily and am part of a Zen group of the Diamond Sangha. I work as a Registered Nurse. I have a house in the forest of Northeast Washington 15 miles from Canada. Keep on Keepin On. I am really glad this site is up and going and look forward to talking with you all. See you at 10,000 Lakes next month.

Hiya all!I joined on the previous incarnation of this forum but will reintroduce myself. Caught my first show in '84 and saw many until the very end in '95. My favorite era is '87 to '90. Some of the most inspired music played by this band happened in that period IMHO though I enjoy all eras. I'll tell more about myself later when I have more time.

So I never much got into the Well, but have been at DNC since 99. Have made really good friends that came out of the computer - lifelong! My first show was in 1968 when I arrived in SF from the east coast. I'm still here and don't want to live anyplace else - although I've tried. Don't recognize many of you over here except (((Marye))). Good to see ya. It is interesting to see this latest version unfold. Much love to all, Rose

Hello, I think we should have a chat room, in real time. This new site is VERY slow going from one thing to another. hopefully that will ease as the site is growing. What I do is a few radio shows on the Internet. I try to bring Radio back to it's former Glory, with a little help from me friends... The Dead, then & now was always an inspiration, as was many other performers.May I leave the web sites? THANX! My name is katrinka and I'm a Bay Area Flower Geezer, first show 1968 - San Francisco. I use the same login name in many different forums. I think I first posted on Usenet's rec.music.gdead in late 1994, right after I got my first internet connection. It was definitely while Jerry was still with us, and I remember reading and posting about the 1995 "tour from hell" and discussions of ways we hoped to help clean up the scene next tour. Then, after Jerry died, Robert Hunter started his online journal and mailbag, and next thing you know I was part of a living, breathing online community - Dead.Net Central ( DNC.) Within a short time there was a gathering of DNCers at a Bay Area show, and also the RMGD community had some get-togethers, and gradually my "real" life and my "cyber" life became intertwined. (Not to mention the Zero/Steve Kimock community, which became very active during that same time frame, when Steve Kimock was living just north of SF.) I never really had a career. Back in 1969 I worked on two underground newspapers - the San Francisco Express Times and the Berkeley Tribe - during the Free Huey Lewis and People's Park eras. For a brief time I lived with the Congress of Wonders (as family member/nanny) and traveled with them to the desert south of Tucson Arizona, and then back to the California coast. In 1972 I married the love of my life. He's a cultural anthropologist, and as an anthropologist's wife I was priveleged to participate in the "fieldwork" experience. even though I had no training. We traveled and lived interesting places for several years. But we gave that up to live in San Francisco after a consciousness-changing show in SF on 12/30/83. Something about the Terrapin Station that night made us decide to stay here. I got a job in the printing business, since I had a little experience there (from when we lived in Kansas - but that's another story) and I ended up managing a small print shop for several years before retiring. These days I live on the coast, just south of San Francisco, and I still go to as many shows as I can.

Hi there! I was one of the little kids running around in the scene in the '70's. I grew up in San Francisco. My dad is a violinist, and he played with The Dead, and hundreds of other famous musicians. Close to the scene, I grew up in dead mayhem! My first show was 12-27-83 at the SF Civic. I was backstage with my friend Ben, whose mother had introduced Jerry to Mtn. Girl. I remember that he went and played video games in the kids area (Tempest was all the rage!). When Jerry broke into Cold Rain, I remember saying "Hey, the showis starting". My friend (Ben) said "I see these guys 50 times a year. Go out and have some fun."I remember hooking up with a group of heads from Boston. I could not believe that they came all that way to see the band that I had grew up with as a staple in my life. It was that moment that I understood the national/global draw that they had. I watched the show with that group, and one of them said "If you go backstage now, you can meet the band coming off stage." I ran down, and I saw Bobby and Jerry in the long white hallway. Jerry ducked out into his red Pickup truck, but I caught Bobby. I said "Nice show, Bobby". He ruffled my hair and said "Thanks, kid." I was hooked! Being 12 at the time, it took me a couple of years to get on tour. But by '86, I was on the bus. 339 shows later, I ended my twelve year oddessy with the Dead in Feb. 1995. I have no regrets! I was a major tour member from 1987-1995. Then, I went to Israel and found some roots in my life other than Gdead. Life has been up and down since then, but the music lives with me! I now live in Philly, and have three beautiful children. I am looking forward to many more years of Laughter, love and music. Rock on Dead.net!

Thanks, Sken. Gypsy, et al. and I also want to say hey now to all of the good people from the dead.net (old) forum... it is also nice to finally learn some details about the deadnetcentral folks, since I kind of jumped in there too around the same time I got into dead.net. the old dead.net forum was only up for what, 6 months? and plenty of cool people got into it and there were plenty of good things happening. nice to see people back here. Oroboros, in his infinite wisdom likened the old board to the 'acid tests' and perhaps this new board will get into being some fairly structured shows with 'sets' so long as we keep having a drumz space jam I'll keep the smile on my face. ( -: peace.

....from North Carolina and I am definately a Deadhead. My first show was in 79' at my hometown of Charlotte. I am a drummer and played for many outfits over the years. My latest gig was a series of shows with Tom Constanten in Florida, Arizona and Las Vegas. We had a lot of fun. I was fortunate enough to see hundreds of shows and I considerate it to be a major influence in my life. My favorite window for the Dead is the 79' - 81' with 82' - 83 right behind. I am definately a Brent guy. Allright. Everybody enjoy this site. It seems to be very cool. A great way for us to share our experiences. Dougles

wowza, this is quite a treat! san francisco conceived, brooklyn born deadhead here. moved to nor cal in 1970 after hookin' up with the boyz at the fillmore east in '69 where i had the incredible blessing to work on the sound crew (and was responsible for helping liberate some of the first high quality soundboards; specifically 2/13-14 & 5/15/70) had the priviledge to hang out w/ marye, pauli, driver, aud, unkljohn, jewel, shmo, almanac, danlevy, silberman, maddog dgans and a bunch of other great 'heads on the well for ten years until jerry split and i basically did also (it was just too painful to talk about for a long time.) never could get back into the well but i've been wishing for a new place to reconnect with the tribe, so hopefully this will be it. great to see and hear from so many old folks & lookin' forward to meetin' those i haven't met b4. i've missed this family a lot...

Hello to everyone!:) New fan from Montreal here, been discovering the Deads for some days, watching the grateful dead movie and been listening to them non stop ever since. There seems to be such a friendly peaceful vibe from this band's music, it is magical. In a post-modern world where cynism, computers and the impossible can be downloaded, their music seems like the ultimate tonic for a guy with the blues. I would love to have recommendations from where to start and what shows can I found easily. I love the Europe 72 album. Well, hope to become a true deadhead in the future. thanks in advance.

I'm one of "those" NY Deadheads although I moved to RI many years ago; some may remember me as "Bones" back in the days of the haze. I bang nails for food but try not to confuse living to work with working to live; I've only been semi computer literate for a few years and still wondering if it's a blessing or a curse. Had a cell phone given to me last year but use it sparingly, guess you could say I'm going to hell in a bucket (you can fill in the rest and give it a listen while you're at it, '83 perhaps...)

Greetings all. I'm thrilled with the revamped site and glad to see that this place has once again turned into a place for like-minded kinfolk to hang, chat, discuss, share and reminiscence. My first show was 7/16/90, my last 6/15/95, 27 total, mostly in the Buffalo, Albany, Pittsburgh, and Ohio areas. My first bootleg was an Xth generation cassette of 02/26/77 which I snagged in the lot of the Richfield shows Fall '91. Needless to say, it changed my life, as it's turned my Grateful Dead experience from casual listening to something akin to an intellectual pursuit. Since Jerry's passing I've shaved, showered, and traded in my tie-dye for a neck tie. I've got a wonderful wife who is part of the GD family and was seeing Phish when they were a bar band playing Providence, RI in '88 and '89. I've also got a beautiful daughter who turns three in September, and another child on the way, due the first week of August. I download at a compulsively frenetic rate - thank god for bit torrent. A link to my list is below. It's woefully incomplete, and I rarely trade anymore, simply because I don't have time. However, I'm always willing to help out when I can. The dvd list is pretty up to date, but the cd/shn/flac list hasn't been updated in ages. http://www.phishhook.com/lists/GratefulBear Anyway - I'm glad to be here and look forward to getting to know some of you. Shine on, Bear

Oroboros is my screen name but my real name is Tim. I am from the middle of the country (Nebraska) and my first show was 6-16-74 in Des Moines and my last was the Dead's last Vegas Run. I have enjoyed the old site immensely and am enjoying trying to retool my old brain with this new format. This does remind me of the wonderful friends and the community that initially turned me onto the Grateful Dead. Toured a bunch til 'my three sons' and then not so much, but was delighted by attending occasional shows and treasured them greatly. Wonderful wife who acompanied me to many shows and waved goodbye and sent me on my way to see music, when she didn't want to go. Attended a Phil and Friend's last summer at 10klakes with my wife and youngest son. Second born will be seeing RatDog (and the Police) at Bonnero next week. I have enjoyed the ride and I am grateful for some of you out there (you know who you are) who have made me laugh out loud (I learned about lol) as we alternate from trudging on the trail to taking flight "a little bird within her sang". Thanks all. "You see the hut, yet you ask, where shall I go for shelter?" West African proverb
