Pretty sure that is the DaP 12 Colgate 11/4/77 release that has the Jones Boys introduction to which you refer.

Nice minimalist packaging - CDs are in cardboard sleeves, which some people don’t like, but all 7 CDs take up very little shelf space.

Acoustic Bonus CD has awesome sound. Looking forward to checking out the electric sets next. Should be a nice mellow Saturday.

I noticed that Real Gone is releasing DP36 soon. Amazon has it cheaper than real gone.

Wasn’t 3-15-90 $50 for the original release? I’m wondering if the current ones are reprints without a number, or leftovers with numbers. Daverock, buy one and let us know if there is a #####/50000 printed on the back.

Can someone here point me in the right direction as to the show date and venue where at the start of the 2nd Set Phil (I think) introduces the band as the "Jones Boys"....mucho thanks in advance...stupid memory ...oh well like the t-shirt says "I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands".....

....when the crowd would cheer during that line, I always interpreted it as the fact that they didn't want the show to end. I know I didn't....

Perhaps the line "When it seems like this night will last forever" is a reference to musings on contrasting views of the nature of time in presentism vs. eternalism ;) Perhaps the crowd really dug the question presented and cheered as they began to deeply ponder the nature of time;)

MULTIPLY SONG meanings; I’ve read where the boys, Hunter especially don't like to reveal their original meanings, and that the mark of a truly great song is that it has multiple meanings especially contingent upon the situation and the individual etc. That’s one of the truly great things about the Dead’s music, that personally the songs can keep evolving and changing as we do the same, or that they can have completely different meaning during certain situations, or “sometimes you get shown the light.......”
Helps make them timeless and relevant 50 years and counting!
I’m with stoltzy though, for those folks in that time and space that night was surly gonna last forever. Dylan of course was perhaps the originator, or at least the master of multiple meanings. Off the top of my head I think of “drawing crazy patterns on your sheets” yeah, I think that line held a different meaning when Jer sang it. : )

TERRAPIN LIMITED: the proceeds were supposed to help fund the “museum”. You can read in that Silverman book that came out last year for some of the details about how that fell apart. The Phil thing too, which I believe is pretty much just a Lesh family thing? Part of the unfortunate great divide that took place.

SPRING 90; alas, the last truly great tour from what I remember anyways? (which is less and less each day ; ) Only got to Hamilton and Albany, but made up for it with that Awesome Early June Cali run of 3 Cal Expo (love that place!), 2 JGB at Warfeild, and 3 Shorline. First time to the Promised land, with beauty hippie chick girl friend and came out of Electric retirement too, woohoo. I bet there’s at least one other great show there that Dave could do something with?

HAMILTON; funny story. Apologies to those that don’t dig our old yarns from the road....
So due to border crossing etc, we borrow my Ma’s car, cause it’s a big black 87 LTD wagon (looked like Quincy’s cornerwagon) that’s virtually clean, empty, spotless etc. (not sure what would turn up in my ol 73 LTD at the time....
So me and our drummer J-bird get to the border and it’s all being redone on the Canadian side, so they have temporary facilities in place. Now we also purposefully have absolutely nothing with us, so when they pull us aside for the “treatment” we’re all nonplussed about it and proceed to sit on the group W bench and smoke cigarettes while they start their search etc......first it’s mostly just this Gal, but all of a sudden shit starts getting weird and next thing you know many serious, stern looking uniformed folks are rushing out the building and gathering around the car.....
So we both start feeling a little freaked, I mean clean car or not, we are Deadheads and this is a international border....
So ol J-birds like “are you sure there’s nothing in there”? just as their pulling out this large bag with what the poor gal thinks is dynamite from under the front seat....hee-hee, well my pops worked at Bethlehem steel, and being a safety guy always had a bunch of old school road flares in case of a situation. Pretty tense for a while but eventually they all figured it out and we all had a great laugh, and man the shit they were giving that poor gal LOL.....Too funny! Ah, the good ole days!

3/15/90; Daverock, that was a bit pricey for sure, but at the time we all thought we were helping to create somekind GD Disney land for deadheads, plus, like someone said, they were just starting to hash out the good stuff and man that is a good one of many from that fine tour, The Sound was amazing too, think Phil still was hands on with production then? Imagine being his 50th bday show might played into it?

“STIMPY YOU IDIOT” unfortnetly found out that we did not order the Eel box until last night Doooooooo!
So now no bonus disc, idiot!!! “Communication breakdown, drive you insaaaaane”

FIRST Album bonus disc to keep us unpacking from the move and boogieing on last night; man what great energy, and though the boys were still green, pretty tight for still basically bar band. PRIMAL DEAD Woohoo!

ADDICTION; ok, I think we’re startin to have a little problem here......went a little nuts on discogs last night probably to make up for being so bummed about the bonus disc.......finally bit the bullet on DP 28.... im sure if those shows are as good as I think, I’ll forget all about price once I’m drifting and dreaming through that DS etc, and hey, as I told the wife, that’s 2 primo concerts for less than what we just paid for just one of our Gary Clark Jr tix at Ford Amphitheater, so what the hell, it’s only money right? “This must be heaven, if not I’ve crossed the line”

People were cheering because it was the encore but they weren’t ready for the show to be over.

People didn’t get depressed when hearing Black Peter, there was nothing sad about seeing that song played. Jack Straw is also about death, and in the later years it was often used to kick off a show in high tempo. Morning Dew is also about death, it’s an anti-nuclear war song.

My copy of the Eel is out for delivery......
