And To the Point

Getting back to the reason for this thread, I would just like to thank Sixtus, closely followed by 80's Fan, for giving the heads up about this package really and truly being for sale. I checked the store, and sure enough, there it was. Got my order in. Five minutes later, I got the email for the offering. Within the next few minutes, all hell broke through. And you all know how the rest of the day went!

I'm pretty sure That's Otis just gifted the Wolf to me (rock on Otis, love ya brother).. let you know in a few days. On a more serious note.. hang in there all, these are weird times.. but that's the nature of the beast. What binds is stronger than what divides. I do have one bit of advice though.. when the going gets weird, the weird listen to 1968 Grateful Dead. It's always worked for me.

This is Dantian. Why the new name everytime? Simple. I am "retired" or at least semi-retired. I keep "deleting" my user names and cannot get them back again. Jim can explain the process to you if need be, as I explained it to him. Suffice it to say that I couldn't post as Dantian even if I wanted to. But you all know it's me, don't you. I am tired, and keep meaning to shut up for good, but have cetain triggering factors that lead me to open my mouth again. I have been at this since before the ultimate in fake news was revealed to all who were actually paying attention at the time. I.e. when Dan Rather tried to float a MS Word document (default settings, no less!) as an alleged legit document created on a circa 1973 typewriter. "Fake but accurate," he said when caught, look it up. I was there and witnessed it go down in real time. Most of you won't know what I'm talking about. That's ok, I was there, and I remember. It was a defining moment, and will be cited in history books 100 years from now. It never mattered much to me what one's political affiliation was (I'm a life-long registered Democrat, btw), but more important to me was the way that our media elite were outright lying to us and leading us astray, and I wished only to seek the factual truth, and make up my own mind. The fake Killian documents scandal was a revelation. And yet this type of fake news continues today, only people seem to be even less interested in the truth now, and less likely to question what Big Brother is feeding them. It is scary, really. Jim, thanks for the shout out on 12/18/73. Coincidence that it was broadcast at this time? I don't know, but I am going to listen to that show in its entirety right now, and wish I kept my mouth shut. You are a good guy, Jim, and the rightful "leader" of these boards. Elected or not ;) I will leave you good folks alone now. Carry on...

Funding

With much enthusiasm.. I tried to get That's Otis to fund my FW69 and E72 boxes.. but he quickly saw through my ruse and all I got was an equally enthusiastic offer for a crisp soundboard of Boreal Ridge '85. So very frustrating. Hey.. I hope we can we tone down the badgering and move on. These are weird times but most of us come here as an escape from the bitterness and especially cable news. Just like GD shows were 30 years ago.. a mild escape, a place to open your mind, shake your bones make some new friends and hopefully learn a trick to two about the world and what makes us tick. Lets not stir up the pot.. pass it around, maybe..

I am so sorry that happened. That you funded it for him, and the guy repays everyone by being a disruptive presence here. Angry Jack you said something interesting. You said he probably blocked you? I didn't know we can block people on here. I would love to not have to read posts from one or two negative people here. How do I block someone? Someone mentioned 5/26/77 as being even better than 5/25, so I gave it a listen today. I got up to Bertha so far, and of course, it's excellent May 77 music, but I thought the Bertha is extraordinary. Compared to others of this period, I like how it starts with the loud lick by itself. Not a fade in rif as Jerry is assembling the musicians. Not a joint entry into the song by the whole band. Just a little quiwt warm up lick, a pause and then BAM! like Emeril. He plays the opening riff loudly and it grabs you, just like the old days. There is also a nice guitar solo by Jerry, very loud and crisp sounding. I give Bertha from 5/26/77 'Discovery of the Week' honors.

i've seen two of your posts in one weekcomplaining about someone's negative comments-guess what, when someone has an opinion that is not aligned with your thoughts,even if it's about someone setting a price for something they selling or the band is slop before pigpen.its gonna be negative.it's their prerogative to say it's not worth it or no thanks.i think it's your emotional immaturity to anything negative or something you don't agree with.you could have left it to-"that's your opinion and i don't agree."instead you feel it's necessary to put someone down.earth without rain is a desert.

Pauses between tracks?

Hi all, A technical issue I'm hoping to resolve: Recently ordered this set, promptly downloaded the CDs to my iTunes collection. Getting 1-2 second pauses between most of the tracks which disturbs the flow of the music. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Gareth

It’s most likely caused by a setting in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences and see what is listed for import settings, as well as for playback settings.If you still can’t fix it then google it, there should be instructions somewhere.

Recommendations for a Newly Grateful Deadhead?

Newly Grateful Recommendations

You know, Gareth, it really comes down to what you like about the Dead... When I put in the Dead, I rarely want to listen to songs, so to speak. I tend to go for the long, inspired jams. For this, I would suggest the Winterland 1973 boxed set as No. 1, so far... though in general, shows from the 1973-1974 will be your best bet for this... That said, there are gems of shows throughout the years, though I've never personally been impressed by anything later than 1977. May 1977: Get Shown the Light (All Music Edition) is a great collection from this year. I also really love One from the Vault, Sunshine Daydream, & Dick's Picks, Vol. 14... The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack is an all-too-looked-over gem, too. Finally, if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Pacific NW '73-'74 boxed set while it's still available on this site. When these sell out on dead.net, they price-inflate like crazy to 2x their original cost or more.

Get Shown the Light, the box with the book, was limited to 15,000 copies, I read somewhere.But I can’t find anything on the All Music Edition that’s still available. Can somebody tell me how many of those were printed?

Best digital format?

So, I'm totally showing my newbie-ness, but when the formats are digital, which is the best to download? I'm thinking about uploading to iphone for maximum bluetoothing. Also, is the first selection a CD collection of the four shows? I didn't see it listed behind the All Music Edition, so I figured it must be sold out.

16/44.1 is CD format, so you could convert to WAV or AIFF on a computer and burn CDs if you wanted to, as well as have the digital file on a music player.

The higher resolution files are for a computer or music player. If you wanted to burn CDs from those files you would lose the higher resolution that you paid more for.

I downloaded the ALAC of this digital download but when I import into iTunes it is not recognizing the artist or songs and not creating an album. For the same ALAC download for Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: The Complete Recordings Boxed Set it worked perfectly in iTunes. Why does this download now import correctly? Thanks if anyone knows or can help.

May 1977: Get Shown The Light (All Music Edition)

Since they sold out of the regular box set with all the bells and whistles, and had a huge demand, Dead.Net is selling an All Music Edition that "...only includes the 11 CDs in four folios and a booklet of liners, housed in a simple slipcase."

So, still the four shows, just without the special packaging and the unpublished book. This time, the order went through. Nothing on the website about this also being a limited release -- it's not numbered, but they don't specify if it's another set amount.

Excellent news ! I wonder if they will re-release other box sets in this format that originally sold out. Fillmore West 1969 is the one I sadly missed out on and would shell out for in a heartbeat.

Does somebody have problems with tracking number?

I've purchased the fantastic Lyceum LPs more than a month ago and still nothing arrived.
I've searched for the tracking number done by the GD store on the DHL site but nothing appears.
I've yet written to the customer helpdesk, but I'm curious if somebody encountered my same problem.

Just to state the obvious, they are indeed fantastic records. I am half way through 5/25/72 at the moment - one that no-one really mentions. Probably because of the night after, which is a shame as it's a great show in it's own right. Curious "Good Lovin" - 14min 53 seconds, and no Pigpen rap - he just sings the opening the verses and the closing ones some 12 minutes later. In between we have spot on r'n'b jamming like no-one else.
