    Rosa, would have recommended
The Dove's Nest in Sunderland, or near there, 10 minutes from the show.. I also would have went to the Peace Pagoda in Leverett, 20 minutes from the show and nice view with a tranquil vibe. I love the Pioneer Valley!

Grateful Dean, I'm actually learning to love the HI in Portland. We have always stayed at the Regency down in the Old Port, but the HI has a lot going for it. The view is amazing, the Dogfish restaurant nearby is really good, and if you're playing around with Priority Visa points, you just can't beat it! It looks like there are a couple more new bars/restaurants up in that area, but we haven't tried them yet. We really miss Katahdin - that was one of our all time favorites. DH bumped into them while staying at HI for a Phish show several years back. I've had some of the best meals of my life there. Sea scallops in a lobster-nectarine reduction on a bed of local mesclun - it doesn't get any better than that in my book!I was really hoping the Time & Temperature building would be flashing "Welcome Deadheads," but it still says "Call Joe." I wonder if I'll ever figure out what that's all about. Gonzo, I love the age diversity at the shows. I think it says something about this music that it can resonate with you whether you're 17 or 75. I don't think that too many bands could claim such a thing. Awesome setlist last night. They did what I think of as the beautiful psychedelic songs - Crazy Fingers - Chinacat - St Stephen! And I've been waiting for Touch of Gray for Years - it was the encore, and DH caught it on the second note. I thought he was teasing me, as in "don't you wish the encore would be?" But he was telling me that IT WAS! Yes! So do any of you guys know Amherst? I asked for restaurant suggestions on Furthur.net, and everyone is just laughing and sugesting McD's/bring a sandwich. Can it really be such a dining wasteland? And in a college town, no less? We had a pretty crappy dinner out there last year, but I was hoping we just made a poor choice.

...varies by region. In East Coast Cities vs hard core counter-cultural areas the crowds are a lot younger. You don't see that big element of 45-60 along with the 60-75 subset that can make up more than 50% of the show. I think a lot of people in cow country really like that cowboy music.

Memories of my youth, Catholic youth that is. We had a state CYO convention in that Holiday Inn in the spring of 1973, we were the first people to stay in the hotel, kind of a pre-opening. They stacked us 5 to the room, we spent the second afternoon drinking (them were the days of the 18 yr old drinking age, so some of us were actually "legal" in the eyes of the law) and otherwise imbibing (not so legal) before the Big Dance. Two of my roomies got a bit too wasted and got kicked out of the convention that night. Ahhh, the good old daze...precursor of several other Portland Civic Center /HI adventures to follow. Have a great show!

Hey Gonzo, sorry we didn't connect. I did try to call you a couple of times, but it was going to VM. We really enjoyed the show, lots of excellent tunes. We did connect with our nephew and his wife. It was their first Furthur show, and they loved it! We just arrived in Portland - tenth floor of HI by the Bay, excellent views!Lots of Deadheads about :) Going to venture forth in search of a lobster roll soon.

Good show. I didn't do the list but it was a Playin'>Cold Rain opener and a wailing Uncle John's>Playin' to close with a Ripple encore. Sorry I missed you, Rosa. Hope you have a nice road trip!

I was generally fukin-gruven dancing and then Furthur goes into the Eleven and this beautiful hippy girl does this 10 minute "The Eleven" dance in front of me that would blow some dervish away. I got right to the vibe and we stomped on the terra. Hope to repeat in Manchester tomorrow. It may be awhile before I see'em again, if ever.

I'm just going to jump back a bit on the thread, because I missed that part of the conversation. DH & I have both managed to avoid cellphones, and I'm pretty proud of this. But I've noticed that as time goes by, and I mention it to my ever-younger new hires and high school interns, they respond as though I've said, "Yep, no indoor plumbing for us, but that's OK, cause we have an outhouse and a pump right out in back of the house!"But I seriously believe that they taketh more than they giveth. When I'm walking to the subway at night, humming The Wheel or somesuch, the last thing in the world I want is for my pocketbook to start ringing. I would probably set it on fire and throw it in the street! If you are having an emergency, call 911, cause I still can't get home any faster than the train will get me there. If I am having an emergency, I've scoped out all the train stations I pass through, and they all have payphones, so I'm always sure to carry quarters. And at concerts??!! I've been at so many shows where I am experiencing something live and immediate and wonderful, and the people around me - all seem to be on the phone. Poor suckers.

Hey now, where is everyone these days? LIning up 2011 show plans? We got tix for 3/4 & 3/6 at the Orpheum in Boston. No luck yet on 3/5, but still waiting for word from DS TOO - hope they come through for us! This is the first time I've tried the mail order route. The online presale was totally hopeless. It is unfortunate that the mail order and general online sales aren't timed far enough apart for you to know whether you've scored on one before you try the other.

Just saw for 2011 2 shows in Fla. First one at the new University of Central Florida's Arena. Just opened back in 08 and this a beautiful place to see a show with plenty of parking and lots of room for vending, partying, etc..., just watch out for the campus police, they can be real backward thinking and have a tendency for overreacting. With that in mind, have fun but be safe. Since the band will be skipping North Carolina this spring, I can't think of a better place to be in April, Sun, fun, furthur, definately something better to think about besides all of this snow and cold up here. Jack: Looks like you have three shows coming up in CO, and I'll bet you're going to all of them - enjoy!Ted & Sam: What about the SC show? Just wondering, I would think that would be a nice warm spring venue as well. We've got tickets for 3/4 & 3/6 at the Orpheum in Boston. It's a small venue that sold out quickly. It's a real Brokedown Palace with lots of duct-taped renovations, but it's only 12 miles from our house, so we would love to be able to do all three shows. Still waiting to see if mail order comes through for us (and if it does, we'll have too many tickets - but better than getting shut out!) I'm surprised there isn't more conversation on this site - The Dead in 09 tour generated so much action, I could barely keep up with it after work. And that was just one tour in one season, where it feels like Furthur is taking us further indeed - a lot to be happy about, especially for folks like me, who got on te bus belatedly.

is an outdoor facility, alot like the bayfront in Miami, there is absolutely no tailgating at this place and parking will be expensive and iffy. I love south Fla but I will pass on this show, as far as South Carolina, I had a bad experience there and wouldn't set foot in that state for love or money or even free tickets, the cops in this state suck and they will bust you or at least mess with you if you look the least little bit like a head, good luck to any and all going there.

Hey boyz and girlz...LOVE YOU....missed you too. Figured I'd just write everything here, because I assume most people check this thread. I've been under some serious pressures lately, Mom is back in the hospital, and honestly when she was out it was like a full time babysitting job. So, I appreciate all the kind vibes from all you from before, she's doing ok, just not there yet. Also, I've been working on projects @ the same time so I've had to put PRIORITIES ahead of being online and talking to my family. I will be getting everything squared away here in the next couple of days, I really just need to sleep and take a breather from the Chaos of what I've been dealing with. So please don't think that I've forgot about prizes and Getting back online/chatting/talking/vining and talking with all you kind folks. Just know that I've been under EXTREME stress with Mom's Disease and dealing with the game called "Life". Thanks for understanding, and I love you my family....ALOT! In fact without some of my close friends and dead.netters (family freinds) I don't think I'd still be sane right now. To all heads going to this show......I live in this area and would like to inform ALL heads attending. This venue is across the strreet form a police department and jail. 6 UP people.Nothing cool ever happens here & I do not expect much tolernce. I may be wrong. Maybe they want to start having more shows to bring in revenue and will be very tolerant. One can hope, and I have been surprised before. Just thought I would throw it out there.

I thought it was a wonderful show! The first couple of songs didn't excite me too much, but from Alabama Getaway on, it was all good. The second set was truly amazing! We went to all three Boston shows, and I was lucky to hear a lot of favorite songs I hadn't hear live before: Alabama Getaway, Crazy Fingers, Help>Slip> Franklin, Morning Dew, Tom Thumb's Blues, Mason's Children, Passenger, and St. Stephen. It does seem like they don't always pay enough attention to what they've played in a certain geographical area before. For example, there was only one song at the 11/19/10 Worcester show that I hadn't seen Furthur do before (China Doll), and it was only my fifth Furthur show. And the 3/5 Ripple encore was nice to hear as always, but that was the encore for the 6/30 Lowell show and the 11/19 Worcester show, so it does become a little less special. So I was really glad to get so many tunes in Boston that I hadn't seen them do before.

I echo your comments about the Friday night show. Second set rocked. Glad you enjoyed all three shows. My next taste will be Radio City. I heard Warren Haynes joined the boys for the Second Set last night. Anybody out there have a review. I saw the Allman Brothers Saturday night and Warren absolutely burned the place. It was his night and he was sizzling, especially the first set. However, I never thought he quite meshed during THE DEAD tour a few years ago, so I'm curious if he was able to shine with Furthur. I was on right when the clock struck 10 (our time) and every single reserved seat was gone, not 10:05 not 10:01, hell not even 10:00:30. Then you check stub hub and ticketnow and wow there's the tickets in some damn scalper's hand already. How do they do that?? Is it an inside job?? WTF???
