Here's a link to a site where there are many shows posted for free download. Sound quality is pretty awesome and he adds stuff all the time. His list includes most of the 'Hunter's Trix' series of matrix shows currently making the rounds via bit torrent at etree. It would be a good place to check out if you are starting a collection, or even enhancing one. http://rapid.org/board/showthread.php?t=266944 Cheers... His job is to shed light, not to master...

Hey, all. I don't have tapes to trade... but there is a show I would love to see one more time in this life and it is the 3rd show at Alpine Valley, July, 1989. Best concert I ever saw and my first Dead Show. I have the recording but to actually see it again.... how could I explain? I was 19. I know there is a full vid of this show in existence. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Y ~ C*

Like IRSampson, I also had a couple hundred Maxell and TDK gems in my collection. I went digital a couple years ago and would put any of the digital stuff I have against any of my old tapes quality-wise. There is not one drawback that I can think of, it's just that first step that is the hardest. Storage is a GREAT benefit. 1 hard drive can store an entire collection, while you can rotate stuff on your iPod. Luckily, there are folks on these boards and others who are happy to guide you through the process. The vines here helped point me in the right direction. I finally completed my leap into the digital age by dragging my cassette collection to the Chicago stop on the band's '09 Spring Tour and just handed them out. I've recently been posting shows here that I have uploaded to Rapidshare. These are clean downloads, free to those who wish them. Just copy the link to your browser, and your in business. I'm also willing to share my list with anyone who's looking - just PM me.

I too am one of the Old School heads who was reluctant to move into the digital realm. And I'm a techie! What forced the issue was that I also found fewer people interested in trading tapes. So I did the homework and got advice from others and haven't look back since. I still have about 200 of the 850 or so tapes I had, giving the others away to those in need. But you don't need to convert what you have. Most of it is available out there and will sound better. The easiest way to download is using a torrent app like UTorrent or others, where you add a download by clicking on the torrent link. The bt.etree.org site has tons of great quality shows and enough seeds to allow for reasonably fast downloads. Get the free application "Traders Little Helper", which will easily convert the various compressed file formats (shn, flac, etc.) to WAV (where you can burn to CD if your burner software can't decode the compressed formats), or there are plenty of others that will get you to MP3Pro or similar formats suitable for your iPod. The archive.org site primarily offers audience recordings available for download, but you can also stream the soundboard stuff and capture it with an audio program like CoolEdit Pro, etc. The learning curve isn't bad and once you do, you'll discover the bliss you found when first collecting those crispy XLII-S copies. And nearly everything can be done for free, except maybe the cost of the CD's - which are a hell of a lot cheaper than tapes :) I know have replaced most of all my favorite shows and have added tons more. My 80 GB iPod is stuffed with a couple hundred shows as well. Technology is our friend, just as it was the band's! Enjoy your eargasms!!

I am almost POSITIVE the Dead played a second encore after Casey Jones on 10/28/77. It was my first Casey, AMAZING, and I recall the Dead left the stage, the roadies started breaking it down, but the fans were going wild! We would not leave. The Dead finally came back out and played another. That is how I remember it to this day. But I can't find any evidence to back it up, as all tapes/recordings from that show say Casey was only encore. Anyone share my memory??? Was it a dream, or another show, or ??? Anyone with a tape to back me up?Thanks.

I heard this show the othere day on XM and Archive only has an audience of it....The show was one of the last recorded on reel to reel, as this practic ended in 1981 in favor of cassette masters....my question is does anyone have a low gen SDBD of this show I could burn? It is such a crisp sounding show, but (no offense to any tapers) the Aud tapes don't do it justice in my humble opinion. thanks! My email is afidelman@gmail.com

(NO LONGER AVAILABLE)

I have a couple dozen cassettes, and don't want to just toss them out. I'll send them to someone in the U.S. that wants them.

Shows include Palace (Auburn Hills, MI) 6-93; Cleveland 9-91; Palace 3-92; Chicago 6-92; Palace 6-93; Palace 7-94; Chicago 7-95, and a few miscellaneous. Scott, who owned InFlight Sports in East Lansing, Michigan at the time, taped these.

Hello fellow Deadheads! My most fervent hope is that you are all safe and healthy and happy! I've never posted to this site yet, but was prompted by the June Bulletin and here we go! I was 17 when I first saw the Dead and now, many shows and nearly 50 years later, I still remember that first show like it was yesterday. I would always stand next to the tapers section (because I figured they knew what they were doing and would be set up in the sweet spot) but never taped a show myself. However I sit here with my trusty old Aiwa deck that still works and its a day before my birthday and I see on this forum all the time that people need to find new homes for tapes from time to time and after seeing the June Bulletin I got the idea to finally post on here and let you all know that if you are looking for a new and safe home for any of your tapes for what ever reason, that I would promise to care, restore if needed, cherish and keep them safe. I would never, ever sell them, for what magic they would be to me! Why this old man would have to kick up the dirt and dance a little every day! I know I can stream and download this music elsewhere, but those of you who have owned these tapes know that there is a certain magic feeling about being able to see and touch and feel the music and to put it in your own tape machine and let it play and play.
Call me beggar, call me Jawa, call me leech, for all of these might be apt, but I would be proud to carry on your legacy in any tapes that find their way to me for as long as I am on this side of the dirt...

Some of them should have the lineage on the J-card somewhere,Its the taping info like.
Neumann KM-184 > MP-2 > Edirol R-05 This is the rig I run.. This means if you dont know. Mic's are always first. Meaning Im running Nuemann KM-184 mics... Then if your rumming a preamp or ay other gear Im Running a Sound Device MP-2 Moic Preamp... Then lastly My deck whih is a Edirol R-05. There maybe other info in lineage too. My previous rig was Sennheiser K6-ME64 > MP-2 > TCD-D10 ProII....Tapes usually have what Gen. they are.. Like 1st gen SBD or 3rd en aud..Tjis means how may they are from the master recording..

Hey all,

Was listening to an piece on the Sirius/XM GD channel a few weeks back. One of the folks they interview was a notable taper located in Tallahassee, FL. Kind surpirsed me cause I live in Tally and I had no idea we had a celebrity taper in our midst. I totally missed the guys name. Anyone know who this is???

Thanks!

Hello,

I would be very grateful and blessed if you still have some of the 2000+ tapes you mentioned. I can help with shipping and handling. I own a few shows, but no actual tapes yet.

This would mean a lot to me. My name is Jeremiah and I am from upstate NY.

I look forward to speaking with you and seeing if you even have one or two, to help me start my tape journey :)

Thank You - With Love,

Jeremiah

I wish I could help you answer that question. I wasn't listening during that day and I live in upstate NY, or I would be happy to help if I could :/

Is there a policy against selling tapes? I have seen a couple of collections show up on CL and this week there is an extensive collection in an estate sale in Massachusetts.
I contacted the CL person and asked them not to sell but to offer up as free. They were nice and had some rosy BS to say about her parents giving her the tapes but she didnt want any more and was selling them. Alas, she did.
Being of the trading era i think its wrong to sell them and there may be an official dead policy or a place to report?

It was always frowned on to sell the tapes, to put it no more strongly. However, Jerry's been gone these 25 years, and a lot of once-precious tape collections, by inheritance or general attrition, have ended up in the hands of people who aren't in Deadhead culture and can't reasonably be expected to operate based on it. I'm more startled that she found someone to pay money for it, given how often Heads are offering up their tapes for free after they've gone digital, and on this very site too.

I have an idea for an art project and I am wondering where is the best place to ask for tape covers with hand written set lists and / or cool drawings that aren't being used. I would 100% pay for shipping.

Rock on!

Hello all! I'm a 15 year old new deadhead and I've been wanting to collect dead tapes for awhile. I was wondering if any of you are willing to send a couple of freebie tapes. Unfortunately, I'm broke money wise until I have a job so I cannot therefore pay for shipping. I understand times have been different for months now and its fine if you are unable to. Hopefully I'm not asking for much, I just think having physical copies of Dead shows is a very special treat that not many people have anymore. Also, CDs are great too, especially if they have cool artwork to go along with them. Anyways, just shoot me a message and maybe we can work something out. Thanks!

Hey Folks! Two things: (1) I really miss MaryE and the vine trading community we had here for many years. I hope everyone is doing well! (2) Does anyone have most or many of the newer Hunter's Trix releases? He is up to # 126 now (awesome 10/15/84 show). Would love to get lossless versions and I have a lot of older sources, including some of his, to trade. Thanks!

Chef/Nick/anyone, I am willing to send you some CDs. PM me and we can talk

Nice profile pic with Donna Jean :)

I've got a few of those lossless.
I know I've got HT123 - 126 FLAC

But would need to check past that.
Do you have a list of which you want and I can check what I've got.

Also, would love to hear the story behind the picture with DJG.

this post is not for the faint hearted,I was an early participant here from way back when Mr. Hunter was the webmaster..bout 30 trips around the sun give or take ago. I want my big ass collection of dead shows on cds to find a good home. These shows are Auds,Soundboards and about the best versions out there,no commercial releases.all done by the hands of the fans and thier decks. Ive known most of the tapers from back in the early days. These discs have been well kept in paper sleeves labeled and organized and stored in cabinets for cds and thats how i want them to stay. list of course is avail and pics , but I dont want to piece meal this collection out. is this possible?..would someone want this? is it all about hard drives, terabytes and streaming now? if not you maybe someone you know? shipping would be humongous.would have to be a pick up thing.im in the NYC area.Im not looking to sell the music of course. i Acquired most of this thru vines and the gratitude of the people who spread it far and wide. but with the huge amt of media put into it and storage cabinets maybe a barter thing or rtn of it on a hard drive..all open for discussion, ..also have hundreds of ratdog and PLQ shows but thats another project... PM me if this not beyond yours or someone you knows wildest Dead dreams through another day.

Hi Dstache, and Happy New Year! Some of us still around, still deadicated, and still grateful for all the bounty shared on this site. Perhaps we should move this discussion to the Vineyard rather than the tapers section? I still have some vines that ended up with me when no one else requested them and could post in those vines to let people know they are available. And I would def be interested in the MTX shows if you vine them. Have not been to the Post Office for awhile but I think I remember how to do it!
