    With the exception of Copenhagen and London, they hit these cities just once and my guess is most locals had not had any real exposure to the touring Grateful Dead. Copenhagen is the real outlier, two hits at the same venue and similar second set setlists.

    I always assumed they wanted to make a presence in Europe and knowing people were not as exposed in the US, wanted to paint a strong picture for each city.

    So 51 years later listening to the whole tour, there is lots of repetition. But if you were there then, it was all brand new. That's how I digested it. They wanted to hit Europe with a cohesive picture of what they were doing then not knowing when or if they would return.

    Yeah they always went heavy on what was new. Guessing partly for their own sanity/interest, and partly for the crowds.
    Not unlike Taylor Swift etc: make an album, go on the road to support it, rinse and repeat…of course like most things, they weren’t that formulaic, thank goodness lol. Plus, they were smart enough to figure out that it’s better to work stuff out on the road BEFORE you go into the studio to record it, especially when you do constantly tweak and re-invent them. So this tour was perhaps a bit of both lol.
    Also, (think we’ve discussed before?) folks didn’t tour so much back then, probably not at all in 1972 Europe?
    So they didn’t have to worry about that like they did later on.
    Sometimes I think they, or someone, just really enjoyed certain songs, so played en more.
    I’d say they played less repetitive in some ways as the years passed and they had more and more songs to choose from.
    Ok, maybe not Bob, he seemed to need to play everything to death lol. Speaking of, why Me&My Uncle every night! I mean they just put it out on the last live album only a year before! With so much new stuff as the Dead, and from WM and AB, AND both Bob and Jers recent solo albums, why Bob, why LOL ; ) Perhaps trying to bring more American “culture”?
    As far as reinterpreting songs, I think they always did that, though some more than others and with various results.
    I guess that’s yet another thing dependent on the listeners taste and chever way yer pleasure tends…
    But I’d bet the biggest factor on this tour was trying to get at least one good useable version of all the new material since they purposely chose this methodology to get the new songs out on a new album. That and mix in some familiar stuff as you never want to do all unknown songs. I could tell ya a story about doing that lol

    Is that true, though, that there was more repetition of songs during the E72 tour than others in the late 60's and 70's?
    I haven't checked it out, but listening to shows, I always get a sense that they had a core group of songs that they leaned on during specific tours. It was the same listening to the 1973 box that has just come out. There weren't any shows that were wildly different from any other - possibly 6/10/73. That has a different feel than the earlier ones.

    That's not a criticism - the more they played specific songs - especially the ones incorporating jams, the better they got to know them and the more they were able to re-interpret them. Part of the ongoing mystery - especially from late 1971-1974. Maybe.

    The make up show.
    Yeah 1stshow, there is definitely a looooot of repetition! Lol
    But yeah, all good, perhaps getting a little burnout, though I haven’t had a lot of good, sit down sessions.
    By necessity, some I’ve been just streaming on crappy work device, (or I’d be still doing this months from now and I’m getting itchy for some other Dead ) I’ve tried to hit those shows multiple times.
    5/13 was one, and another first time show.
    I thought it was a mostly well played show, especially considering it was another cold outdoor show.
    Loved JG joking about a movie and playing drive ins lol
    The PITB seemed a little different, and awesome! Oh, loved Pig making Europe sounding police sirens on the organ during the first spacey part of TOO, another beauty. Nice how their starting to work He’s Gone into the flow of the set.
    Don’t have my info here, but believe this might be the first show without a Good Lovin, which no offense, but I am getting burnt on. Have really been enjoying the other stuff, especially Hurts Me Too and Mr Charlie! And I need to learn the rest of the words to ChinaTown Shuffle as I can’t get the chorus outta my head lol.
    In fact slightly light on the grease, perhaps the chilly cold and being on the road, or maybe time limits? This show was a little shorter by E72 standards, more like a “normal” Dead show.
    Wonder if that was due to having to get back on the road, the cold, or…?
    Overall another great show, though if hard pressed I don’t think I’d include in top five or whatnot…
    Kudos to them though in spite of being less than ideal circumstances and this far into the tour etc

    Oh, I think the repetitiveness and lack of certain songs was totally by design.
    Always good to have as many good versions of songs to attempt to choose from. Nothing worse than wanting a certain song badly but only having a so so version…
    They had all those new songs they wanted to get out, or try to, so I can fully understand not doing too many other recently released songs.
    Making the album was a big part of the tour and after hating their studio stuff versus the great live albums, they were trying to make an album, but live in front of grooving people. Same sorta MO they did with In The Dark. Kinda surprises me they didn’t use this approach more often since it obviously worked so well for them.
    And perhaps unknown to some, but even though they played all tracks live, they did go back and clean up and/or sweeten some things in the studio afterwards, so really a sorta highbred album. Same with Skullfuck.
    Ok, on to 5/16/72 and a world radio broadcast!

    Just started Bickershaw and it occurred to me that 12 shows into the tour there weren't all that many songs in the setlists from either Workingman's or American Beauty. A quick look to verify only found Sugar Mag and Truckin' from Beauty (whoops found a Brokedown too) and five out the eight from Workingman's with two of those played maybe once or twice in the tour. I knew going in to the full EU72 tour I was in for a lot of repetition in the setlists and having glanced at them beforehand saw the order of songs or placements were also similar, i.e. Casey Jones to end many a first set. So maybe knowing they were doing the album they did so many of the same ones to get a better shot at getting one that would be just exactly perfect for the album, more to choose from. Seems a bit opposite to their usual format of no format or you get what feels right that night. These shows are certainly not carbon copies by any means and I'm not complaining at all but just wanted to explore why they all sound a bit the same. Clearly some doing them all in a row impressions happening but not burnout at all. They are all just too good!

10/9 and 10/10/76 sounds like a great idea. I am in.. but I might be a little behind. I can only imagine how DHB is handling the pace.

I picture him curled up in a corner, Stephen Hawking style, just now getting to the end of 10/9/82 twitching benevolently while Mrs. Brewer feeds him his breakfast via straw of cooked and strained carrots, peas, oatmeal and of course Oktoberfest, carefully blended and placed in his favorite pint mug. ....and just as he is getting caught up listening at the rabid pace, the lovely Mrs. DHB pulls out Dicks Picks 33, a twofer.

sorry Jimbo and Deadvikes, I didn't see the recommendation or was too busy to check in that day. I don't know about you guys, but all of this quarantine work from home stuff just makes all the days combine...

I remember this one though, because it has a Foolish Heart, and that was one of my first Dead songs, so I was on a stretch a while back listening to a lot of Foolish Hearts. But I recall the entire set list was stacked so I left it going. May need to remove something from my phone and re-upload this one.

This one is getting a workout. Love this release. I am on it.

I always thought the caveat emptor was interesting on this release. Absolutely perfect!

DP 33, just did this, but it’s new for me so I’ll try in sneak er in...

HAMPTON 89: still reeling from last night. After doing 10/8 again during the day as I continue to make a big mess of my basement theater room lol. Did 10/9 at night, proper, including a little chocolate for the first time since this darkness. Too nervous too get that loose I guess? Haven’t felt comfortable freaking freely...Man it’s funny how fast your tolerance can go away lol. Same with beer as I didn’t partake of any alcohol for 8 weeks. Had 2 last Friday and felt like five! It’s starting to come back again, like riding a bike lol, but I’m going to try and keep it on low. Shit is just getting too hard on the worn out organs etc. Anyway, got in a real nice warm groove and listened on the big boy system, smooothh indeed!
Forgot how great these shows are, though I can understand how some folks see em similar to Cornell regarding the hype. Meaning their great shows but if you weren’t there or didn’t know anything about them you might not be quite as enthusiastic? Sorry, not coming out right? But I totally don’t understand how so many are nonplussed by these shows? I do feel that similarly to say 3/27/88 or 10/14/83, the recording doesn’t quite do the show justice...if I hadn’t been there I’m sure I wouldn’t feel that way, but it just seems a little compressed? Doesn't breath enough?
Though I wasn’t at Jersey, I still think maybe 10/16 is overall at least the best show released so far, if not the best of the tour? That of course is subjective/debatable, but I listened to the 10/16 Dark Star immediately after Hampton and I think it sounds better audio wise at least. Definitely think I like the Hampton Dark Star better, including the 10/26 which I went to following 10/16. The first two are technically better, and Jer flubs the second verse a bit on 10/26, but man that last 10 minutes of weirdness that follows is awesome! So much psychedelic gooey madness on this tour. It amazes me how this tour kinda goes under the radar? Summer 89 and spring 90 get all the love, but I’ll take fall 89 anytime. Summer is obviously great as evidenced by all the releases, and Weir has always spoke highly of it. And Spring 90 needs no props, but it’s almost too clean, too perfect if you will. The pinnacle of the rise, while fall their still reaching for it. Fall 89 has an element of danger, especially with the midi and effects. It’s not so new that their still figuring it out, but it’s still new enough that their going for it, experimenting, and learning to normalize it like any other technology in their arsenal. I think Gollum or someone kinda touched on this. It’s such a good tour, I’m really looking forward to getting to know all the shows.

GENNY CREAM ALE: too funny! Genessee was the main stream working mans swill, our fathers generation, we wouldn't touch that shit. (We were hardcore PBR fans)and the Cream Ale was worse, everyone in WNY wouldn’t go there for fear of the dreaded GENNY Screamers lol. For decades it was at the stadium, concerts, they had all the big contracts. Kinda like how New Belgium is here now. Now GCA is micro brew at micro brew prices! Supposedly they’ve made some significant changes. In fact my cousin was at the Brew Pub back in Chrotchfester a few years back and they said it was awesome. Great place and many of the beers were excellent. Not sure he tried the Screamers though?

I forgot we did Day on the Green already. Just rolling with the flow. I am behind anyway.. pesky work and bad cuts for my exterior trim means I have to both do my day job a little and redo some work I did earlier in the week. Redoing always longer than just doing things right in the first place. Argh.. I knew better and in the interest of expediency, I am taking a project that was time consuming enough to begin with and quadrupling the time it will ultimately end up taking.

But at least I have good music to listen to when I unwind tonight.

Jim, sounds like we use similar methodology: I really don’t feel like doing this, but I have too, and I don’t have much time, so let’s mess things up rushing, so now it can take three times as long as going slow and doing it right once, lol
You should see my Swiss cheesed basement. Had to move my surround wires, thought, meh, 2 three holes with the 6” hole saw, pop em back in and mud em, no problem....cue the Gilligan island song!

For me it's probably a toss up between the DP 33 Franklin's Tower and the Go To Nassau version, which was my first. Yeah, they're all good, but Jerry is particularly loud and animated on these two performances. Good suggestion on Day at the Green.

Speaking of Help / Slip / Franklin's, today is the anniversary of the last one they played in the 70's (Road Trips '77). I think this one went out with more of a fizzle than a bang, at least as far as Slipknot! was concerned (there's not too far to go in 4 minutes - possibly an all time short after '75) . I think the Franklin's Tower is decent, and actually has a great jam /solo toward the end, but there were a lot of steamrollers prior to 10/11, so it had those to live up to by comparison. They didn't play the triad much at all compared to Scarlet Fire (almost double) or Estimated-Eyes (I didn't count this pairing but I'm pretty sure it received a lot more play). This is odd to me, but they did a lot of odd things with their song rotations. But there you have it - this is the day. I was lucky enough to catch them play Help /Slip / Franklin's for the last time with Jerry up in Albany, June 22, 1995. Funny thing about that show is I had no idea Jerry was in poor health and I though it was great. The video doesn't confirm this, but it just goes to show you how much different it is being there.

Speaking of 10/11/77 - the Let it Grow absolutely cooks - top 3 post-hiatus versions for me. Go figure.

A great song.. I'm a big fan from all era's. I do like the intensity in Jerry's playing on some of the later versions. Mid 80's and 89/90 come to mind. I also like how the midi can work with that song when they tweak it just right.

Anyway.. agree, great tune with or without the WRS intro.

Edit, I would add if you judge the song simply on Jerry's playing this one's similar to Jack Straw. Up to a point, the more it got played the more ferocious and incendiary the guitar. In one of my early shows, forget which one it was the Let It Grow that I left me slack jawed and scratching my head when the dust settled after the first set. And about six months later I got either the same tape or one from the same tour and I just couldn't get enough of it for the next 8 to 12 months.

yes, a favorite version - as you say "absolutely cooking" - a highlight from that release. Got me thinking that I didn't recall any from spring tour and sure enough they took a break from song from early Oct. '76 until Fall Tour '77. hadn't picked up on that gap before.

I forget.. is Jerry playing the Travis Bean or the Wolf on these shows? I think the return of Wolf but I forget.

Listened on two different systems. I am sonically dyslexic tonight.. I cannot determine if sounds too thin or just right and I need to wake up the family to truly enjoy it. My headphone listen did not help..

I also think this release would benefit from a remaster, but it could be my ears and my equipment.

I also stand behind my early to mid 80's comment. He is a man possessed at times.

I think Jerry got the Modified Wolf back in Fall '77 so it's probably the inlayed Wolf you're hearing :)

10/11/77 is killer, I might keep playing it. As I only gave it a cursory glance yesterday. Tempo on LIG is crazy time, they're hard charging.

Also for any geeked out collectors like.. all of you.
Dave L posted some uncirculated SBD portions of 4/29/77 on Taper's Section this AM.

At least 2 tracks haven't circulated before from what I can tell.
4/29/77 is a hot show and DL seems to be a fan.
He's been playing bits and pieces on the Taper's Section for years now and I've been trying to gobble them up as soon as I find them and have done.
3 Tracks are also on Digital Download Series Volume 1.

I think that'll be getting a play today.

I am not sure. Something off the beaten path perhaps..

Somebody was blasting Staying Alive from a raft on the river Friday (decent, loud portable waterproof speakers are seemingly everywhere these days). Something as far away from that horror movie of a song as one can possibly get. I spent the last 30 years trying to get as musically far away from that sound as humanly possible. Yet.. once a year or so someone decides it's ok to play? argh.. :D

Primal? Something with It's a Man's Man's World? 91 with Bruce or do we concede to disco GD style and pick something with a rippin' Shakedown?

I actually don't care so long as it's not disco. Any show's anyone has been itching to hear?

Completely agree cone kid. But that song seems to never go away, it just rattles around in your head.. sort of like stepping on a big wad of gum, it's annoying and takes way too long for it to go away.

My comments on the Download Series are the same as they were 14 years ago.. I feel they could have done more with the sound. Either that or the masters were not AAA+ Blue Chip. Still good shows and I use them occasionally when I want to go down the path less travelled.

No need to twist my arm to spin the great 4/24/78. Meanwhile, I will follow Oroborous footsteps into Oct 89. Now that I've turned on to the Warlocks shows, I feel the doors have been opened for all of Oct 89. I had forgotten that we have 10/16/89 in multitrack glory ("Nightfall of Diamonds"). That's another one I've neglected. I've barely even listened to that one. And then the great grand finale of 10/26 - this should be fun. Gooey psychedelic goodness, indeed. Looking forward to any other tour reports, Oro.

Sorry, been slacking here trying to get some work on my theater finished.
FALL 73: I did finish that last week. Believe I left off with a fine 9/21/73 Rectum show.
From what I can recall lol, 9/24&26/73 were pretty similar, actually, not surprisingly, not a lot of variety on this tour in general. Makes sense considering the focus on the new material and the use of supplementary musicians for this new material.
In fact, the biggest trend I noticed on this mini tour, was that by the end, all “that” was relegated to the last part of the show, with the horn guys only on Eyes, WRS, and Sugar Magnolia. Early on, besides the aforementioned, they were on Truckin’ and occasionally elsewhere, and of course Let Me Sing. It’s a shame that one fell by the wayside but I’m guessing Keith’s shyness and having to be the front man singing was just never going to work?
Anyway, Boo fa falo had a nice Here’s Comes a Sunshine, and I believe the tours only Sing Me Back Home, while the Burg had a nobodies, and of course overall many nice status quo Playin’s on the tour. Really glad I finally went through these, shitty tapes and all, interesting tour and yet another cool adventure by the boys to take it furthur!

I can see why this probably wouldn’t get a full box treatment, but considering the historical elements, the new material, and the fine playing you would think a small 2-3 show release would be appropriate. I agree with the consensus that 9/11/73 is a must. All the above greatness while fresh and obviously fun for them, with a sweet Dark Star too. All that’s missing is a HCS! Next I’d say I concur with brother Bluecrow about 9/17/73 at Syracuse, with perhaps one from either Pittsburg or Buffalo thrown in to document the tour/horn/set list progression. So glad I finally went there, can’t believe it took me so long especially since fall/winter 73 has long been one of my top say five tours. It’s like a nice appetizer for that giant feast that followed!
Ok, speaking of favorite tours, on to FALL 89.

Did 10/11&12/89 2/3 times over the last couple days while I made a mess of my basement lol.
Main thing I can say is it’s tough to follow those Hampton shows! Both 11&12 are good status quo 89 shows (mostly good, a few lesser moments too), but overall enjoyable sets, playing, energy etc, but I kept saying to myself, especially for 9/11 “these are hangover shows”.....You can literally feel the “elephant” and it’s energy have left the room so to speak. But since there has to be a “next” show, in typical GD workmen like fashion, they pick up the load and carry on.
Like a Monday after a big party/reunion weekend!
So far on the tour Jers been pretty strong and consistent, Bob, not so much? Brent was good in Hampton, but not as much here, even my fav Little light is perhaps that? Decent Pockey way and mostly good support work...enjoyed that whole sequence on 10/12 with an always fun second set Cumberland! Bob tries to steal one of Jerry’s versus which lends a palpable lift to the overall vibe such that you feel them all smiling at each other and it makes you smile too. I love these little nuances that shine through the Dead’s music.
So perhaps these aren’t top shelf, If they lived in a different space not related to the shows around them, meaning taken on there own, their enjoyable enough, and of course have some of the nice weirdness that was a highlight throughout most of the tour. The drumz/space/midi sequences where awesome if your into that? But if I was constructing a box for this tour I’d could see not needing to include them....
Next night it’s Bob and Jer on Letterman, and then back to the swamps of Jersey for 10/14, with a nice first set closing Help-Slip-Franks and I believe a solid second set? Have this one on tape, but not too familiar with....
Probably try and give the 14&15 a few spins over the next couple days with a big Friday rave up of the mighty Nightfall of Diamonds 10/16/89 blockbuster! I still think overall this is one of the best single live releases ever, yet it seems to really fall under the radar? I think maybe the sound is the best of the 4 releases so far, but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Ok, caught up....Onward!

My first Dave's Picks. Bought it off EBAY right around the time DAP 11 was released. I read about the 2.5 minute jam in Music Never Stopped on Heady Version; the jam starts at 3:20 and is absolutuely mesmerizing. It's the only reason I bought the CD. I had no intention of buying anymore two tracks, but my need to have the best live version of everything is overwhelming sometimes. And of course I later found out there are no best versions only several best versions. But this one is hot.

The Music Never Stopped jam used to be non-existent, but by October '77 Road Trips you can hear a pretty good one, as well as DP 18. There are some other good ones out there in '78 but, I think this is the MOAB.

Okay, how does 10/14/1980 sound? The last night at the Warfield.

There is a good Miller soundboard for sets 2 and 3. Unfortunately, the acoustic first set is missing.

I think we have Oroborous pick on Friday for 10/16/89, Night Fall of Diamonds. Looking forward to hitting that up again.

Yes, I was totally trolling Jim and his Stayin Alive comments by picking 4-24-78. Bobby is laughing during the whole MAMU trying to keep its western sensibilities as Keith and the drummers do their best to force a Stayin Alive segue. We were probably all saved only because no one knew the words.

Looking forward to the cabin chat tomorrow for the first two show Dave's Picks released to date. As others have stated most likely four CDs.

Certainly leaves the door open for other releases down the road.

Should be interesting to see how long this one will take to sell out.

The circus is in town. I miss those days.

If you went with today in Grateful Dead history, 1988, 1989, 1977, 1994, 1984, others? I'm up for literally anything though. :-)

-edit- Can't believe I missed 1976 Shrine, too!

I'm itching for an infectious Scarlet Fire. I started with just the Scarlet Fire from 84 mentioned below, but leaning towards something a little more polished with stronger vocals.

...but that's where I am heading. A good Scarlet has that infectious groove, appropriate for a Thursday.

Yes sir, that 10/15 show is strong, Wharf Rat as I recall really sparkles. Dave floated a Taper's of the Complete Set 1 at some point, but the Rick Pauline Audience recording is smoking and really good quality.

And yeah, 10/15/76 needs some mention, as well as 10/15/83 an 80's classic.

Speaking of 80s classics, did I hear something about Shakedown Stream?
Or did I read that on the Deadcast bonus episode page... hmmmm.

And, let's not forget about the never-before-released 46 tracks of outtakes & 10 demos from the recording of American Beauty.
I just fired mine up.

Thanks! Yeah, I've been in silent lurker mode these past few weeks (months? years? I no longer understand time...) Been barely keeping my head above water in this "virtual" teaching world.

On the 84 Bird Song now, and it does sound mighty sweet :) Probably move on to the Shrine 76 show for some more listening later on today if possible.

10/15 another of those “days”...Remembering my ma 2016, first and only St Stephen 1983, My only Florida shows including 10/15/88, etc, etc, some days just seem to have more happen? Like just minutes away from the Big Chat!!
But today we’re going to continue on with 10/15/89. Been through 10/14 a bit and really enjoyed it.
Starts out pretty standard, decent performance and energy. Followed by a nice FOTD one of only 2 (10/25) on the tour.
Then after Bobs quick psychedelic cowpoke side trip, we get a sweet first set closing of Help>>Slip>>Franks!
This set started out with a nice relaxed vibe that built nicely into a real treat. Second set picks right up where they left off with a nice Foolish Heart, good WomenR, but perhaps not quite the fire of the summer versions i.e., 7/4/89.
But the big surprise, ok, we’ll after the H-S-F, was a nice Stand alone Scarlet, followed up by Truckin’ leading the trip into the Weird Zone, which is another 89 space fest. Out the other side with another surprise and the only China Doll of the tour, and fourth of only four for the year! Perhaps presenting this chestnut is how they get away with a quick Saturday night show on this NY crowd? Though now that I look, it’s close to 140 minutes, so mostly looks short on paper I guess?
But non the less, after the China Doll, big Rocking One Mo Saturday to bring it home, and a Muddy River to send em out into the night with a peaceful easy feeling.
Not gonna say it quite hangs with the big dogs on the tour, but it could definitely work as “filler” on a box due to cool set list and the big carrot for me, multi-track madness! Ok, onward! Today’s first call is 10/15/89, but with all kinds of other great suggestions going on here. Want to check out that 84, in fact if anyone wants more 84, I can recommend 10/20/84!
Still looking to find the Stayin Alive madness y’all were on about 4/24/78. That sounds like must hear viewing!
STAYING ALIVE: funny, I hated that shit back in the day....loathed it, aaaaaa, like the closed minded yute I was, pretty much couldn’t tolerate anything popular....”not cool” idiot! Anyway, some of that music like a lot of things, has really grown on me. Don’t get me wrong I don’t go up to the stereo room on Friday nights, get properly tuned and go for the disco. But occasionally when the stars align I admit I can dig some disco! I even made a 2 disc volume of hits of my choosing that I call “Pedro Mix”. I’ve done this with several artists of genres and did the Disc mix for my buddy and former associate’s kid. He’s liked many of my mixes, especially the Soul Jazz, so asked me to make a disco mix for his little girl who was getting the Boogie Fever! They loved it, my misses really loves it (“anything but dead”) LOL, and I do too!
Some time, when your feeling extra groovy 😉, fire up Donna Summers I Feel Love on a good system and deep listen in the captains chair, loud of course! Follow that with Stayin Alive, and see if that doesn’t get ya outta the chair! We all ripped on the Bee-Gees back in the day, and some for good reason, but my cousin worked on their studio a bunch back in I think the 90s and he said they were cool as shit and NOBOODY to this day, even his buddy Lenny K, smokes as much weed as the them! Too funny!
I love the stuff that comes round here that jump starts all kinds of thoughts and memories!

Oroborous, Donna Summers? Okay, I will have to admit I haven't heard a Donna Summers tune in a long, long time.

And then there is the Dead, made it through so many different eras and stuck to their guns, thank god. Never waivered.

I think Dave's chat put the idea of a second box set for 2020 to rest. It is not going to happen. Bummer.

#36 with two complete shows is a great bonus however, can't wait.

Edit. Okay I did and still do like Earth, Wind and Fire. Not sure if they are considered Disco?

Ha.. so funny you mention that. I had a big day and went to decompress in the tub last night.. didn't quite have the time or energy for 10/14/80 and picked nightfall instead somewhat randomly. I made it through the first set and just dipped my big toe into the second set before I had to help with homework and put my son down for the night.

...and I was unconsciously comparing this to Hampton, not something I often do. I think Nightfall is more polished, it flows better and it might just sound a little better too. I think Hampton sounds good but I have always been critical of the mix. The instrumentation sounds cluttered and Nightfall has a little better separation. It's probably a better show, but it doesn't have the surprise and excitement of the Hamptons. Oro alluded to this a couple weeks ago, 10/8 might just be a better show overall than 10/9, but the DS, DDHNM and Attics, like watching BAR BAR BAR come up on the slot machine.

I think Nightfall might just be better. The sound felt better and the vocals, again.. just a touch better?. The show is likely just as good, but I wouldn't trade it for either of the Hampton shows. The best word choice I can come up with is in the same league. I might add to this after I listen to the rest of the second set later today. So funny to hear this mentioned after my deep dive into the first set last night. Serendipitous.

I'm staying away from the 36 thread for a while.. poor ventilation and too few porta-potties.. somebody should light a match or spray some Febreze or something. Visualizing a modified fire hose that instead of spraying water to cool everyone off on a that horrid, hottest day of the summer tour, it contains a foaming mixture of cleansing spring scents with just enough sanitizer to cut through the stench. Wash all my troubles away....

Edit: I lied.. had to reply to the book reference on the cover art. I like to read.

Happy Birthday Bob!

Been hearing some great music this week.

After the deep dive into 10/14/80 on Wednesday (great tape with a couple small issues & the audience recording is real nice too, overall not too shabby for a bootleg!) Thursday's Deadcast presented us with a deep dive into the Warfield shows.

Serendipity?

That episode was fascinating, and the supplementary material is highly recommended. I believe based on some quick sleuthing that the live footage in the mini-doc seems to be from 10/13/80, as they show footage of an Around And Around > Johnny B. Goode as well as The Other One and all those tunes were played on 10/13. Plus from the sounds of things, the filming took place more towards the end of the run based on Bill Graham's decision to document the occasion. Well done Mr. Graham! And Mr. Jarnow!

Bounced from that to 10/15/84, which is a personal favorite. I love October '84. The PITB on this show is real good, and Jerry's furious fanning burst in Wharf Rat gives me a smile every time. Good stuff and again I have to give some props to the Audience recording by Rick Pauline, it's a really great capture.

Add in the newly released American Beauty The Angel's Share outtakes which are amazing.
