Best acoustic set ever, hands down plus a face melting electric set.I don't know if there is a copy of this in the vault however. I heard that a better version than what commonly circulates was played on Sirus. Does anyone know if this is true?

For all those lucky ones that were there, if you looked up to the skies during drums, you may have seen a whirling bird hovering deep into space up there. Guess who was looking down at their own show! They were and still are always an extension of their audience. pk

Pure magic from the skies, just exactly perfect!

1/22/78 is a great show and worthy of release. I believe that the first half of the second set only exists in AUD format, so that may prevent it from being officially released. I agree with Cosmicbadger's point that for shows that were officially released Rhino should releasing for download the portion that was left on the cutting room floor so that we can get the entire show. I don't share Stuman's problem with Rhino preventing the streaming of shows officially released. They have to make money. We all clamor for more official releases. We can't have it both ways, beg for shows AND when the show is released expect that we can still stream it. Just my opinions.

    Missing bits
one idea that I have been promoting from time to time (and in an unanswered message to David Lemieux last year) is for the 'missing bits' from released shows to be released as lossless downloads from this site, - these bits have no real commercial value alone. They are unlikely ever to be a part of another official release if they were left off one already - In the case of the some of the DPs it is only a few tracks - releasing them could actually encourage people to buy the official release that includes the rest of the show -and it would be a really cool thing to do and make a lot of people using this site very happy (and make up for the long gone but not entirely forgotten tapers section debacle) how about it?

    Re Archive.org policy
As stuman noted, there are many show SBDs no longer streamable from Archive due to "commercial release." Okay, fair enough, when in fact the entire show HAS been "commercially released." What troubles me, though, is when entire shows get disabled when in reality only certain tracks from that show have been "commercially released." A good case in point is the Fillmore East run in April 71. Four CDs of this five show run were released entitled Ladies and Gentlemen, The Grateful Dead. This is a release that I am happy to have, didn't think twice about paying for, and consider it well worth owning a copy of. However, most of the material from these shows is NOT on those CDs. Still, none of the SBDs from these shows are streamable. Since Archive only offers SBDs via MP3 stream, and streams tracks instead of shows, can't the suppression (repression?) of "commercially released" material be limited to only those tracks which actually ARE "commercially released?" I would gladly suffer a little "setlist interruptus" if it meant that we could actually listen to the rest of the performances. As I understand it, Archive's accessibility policy is driven by artist (or more correctly, IP owner's) dictate. So how about it, boys? Free the "unreleased" material! Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.

this show is available for streaming from the archive site. not to offend anyone , but if we keep posting what releases we want to se, then Rhino will eventually completley take it away , that means no streams at all .... i don`t think anyone would like that .. just like the 73 winterland run .. can`t stream that one at all....

After the start of Road Trips Rhino officially announced that Dick's picks as a series is over... so don't be waiting for that #37 to come out any time soon. But if they can revive from the Vault series 18 years later we may not see the end of Dick's picks after all. My vote for a release single show would be 1-22-78. AWESOME. And Dick has commented on how much he loved that show. Don';t want to wait 18 years though. I might be dead. "Music is the best" - FZ

Sounds like a mighty fine show. And not many shows have been released with Shakedown Street, especially a 2nd set opener.

After completing two consecutive shows at Oakland Stadium with The Who the previous weekend, The Dead performed two shows, Thur.-Fri. 14-15 October 1976, @ the Shrine Auditorium in L.A..
The second show on the 15th is "The One".
it's "the One" that would be seriously considered for a Dave's Picks release. But Dave says the last reel for the 2nd set is missing. Oh, and no encore because there was no need for one.

I asked this on another area of this blog already. May ask again. Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can buy an authentic cd or download of the complete dead soundcheck set from the Watkins Glen show - 7/27/1973? Thank you for any reply? Have the jam from So Many Roads. Have a framed poster in my home office. (I was only 11 at that time, I’m convinced I was born 10 years too late because I would have been there).

11/11/70. 46th Street Rock Palace Brooklyn. Wednesday night. First of 4. A few songs into the second set out came Jorma, Jack and Papa John Creech from the Airplane who played most if not all of the set. I've been looking for a clean copy for decades. The ones on Archive are horrible.

Folsom Field Boulder, Co from June 1980.
And since I'm here: A four disc (3+ bonus disc) Red Rocks 8-30, 31-78 if it would all fit. May have to go mini-box. This run has at least five first time songs having just come from the recording of Shakedown Street and is a slower just exactly perfect pair of performances in stark contrast, and in a crazy juxtaposition, to the July '78 Red Rocks shows.
Cheers from colorful Colorado

Great show, this was the Wolfman Jack show and was my first live Dead, way too delayed because, being ancient, had followed them since 1967. Have black and white photos of this show, wish there was a way to post some here.

Can't help myself, the one show I would request, if a soundboard recording was returned to the band, would be Felt Forum 12/5/71. The Holy Grail of 1971 shows...........

When all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed......

Rock on,

Doc
I wish for other people because I already have all my wishes......

Why don't you call this one for Pot day? Don't know if I've tuned into this one before and I don't mind if I do now! ;-P

P.S. Shameless pick: 7/28/82 Red Rocks (don't mess with my levels)

I have avoided discussing 12/5/71 in my POTD posts, but not because it's not deserving. It absolutely is. However, in this thread I've tried---not always with success---to avoid "The Classics", which that Felt show definitely is.

And, I may be wrong, but it's a well known show, and these days I'm generally trying to highlight lesser known shows. How I approach this may reflect a bias based on my own collection, as I often assume everybody has "xx-xx-xxxx", and therefore doesn't need to be discussed.

Could be wrong, but cue it up anyways. Nobody will regret it............

Music is forever; music should grow and mature with you, following you right on up until you die......

When people hear good music, it makes them homesick for something they never had, and never will have......

Don't be shy to recommend anything, including cornell on POT Day. Shoot man, I'm a flaming dead freak. Never specifically tuned into 12/5/71 that I know of. Hella enjoying it today. Comes a Time>Casey Jones is where I'm at in the sequence.

And now, back to painting!! :-) :-) :-)

edit- 12-5-71 thru Sugar Magnolia - very intense rendition and crowd totally into it thruout the set.

Is someone calling out La Bamba in set one? :-) Back to it... :-)'

12/31/72 unbelievable show. The pitb was included on the closing of Winterland bonus disc, but from what I can find of the fm broadcast, the truckin > other one > dew is where the show really separates itself. Would love to hear it cleaned up one day.

Good morning, fellow rockers!!!

2/9/73 is clearly worthy of release, but if I had to pick only one show, it would be 12/5/71, provided a soundboard has been returned to the vault..........

4/17/71, can't believe this one has not been released yet. My guess is either soon individually or better yet as part of an April '71 box, or series of boxes a la May 77, Spring 90, and (hopefully) June 76.

Man, this would be nice to see released! One of my all time favorites over the years. Both sets are on fire...Let it Grow>Deal to close the first set is like no other. 2nd set Estimated>Franklins's is one of just a couple of that combo, gorgeous transition. Runner up to this show is 7/10/81. The 2nd set is as good as it looks.

💀⚡️🥀 I was just awaiting a Dave's Subscription & speculating the next release while looking at my stat sheet I made a few years ago of Dicks Picks & Daves saves when I first subscribed. Anyways I figure 1988 & `89 are little represented in either series as well being only a few shows from the GD "Download series" and only seen on box sets or "Without a Net" in 1990.

Anyways, so I went show shopping and came up with 6~25~88 @ Buckeye Music Center, Buckeye lake, Ohio. A good single summer show in town with a nice array of classic hits AND some choice cuts from new material soon to be released on a later studio album, 1989's Built To Last.✌️😸

P.S.~1982 is also a seldom seen official release year.

Figured I might as well put in a vote.

I would like to recommend the 10/10/1982 for a release. This was my 20th show and I feel it is worthy of a chance at an official release if the source material exists to be turned into a CD that meets Dave's Picks or commercial release requirements.

Having been there for both shows (9th and 10th) I do know that the playing was quite good both days. The band really seemed to be dialed in by the 10th. A couple of my buddies that were living in San Francisco at the time had snuck into the theater (either the day before or early morning) and wrote "Pummel Us, Phil!" on the stage right about where he would typically stand. Not sure if Phil saw the words or not, but I can tell you he did pummel us both days (check out the Morning Dew from the 9th for a taste of what the 10th had in store). This was also the last time I saw Phil playing a 4 string bass. By my next show (12/26/1982) he had moved to the 6 string.

All songs are great renditions with some highlights of Loser, Far From Me, Looks Like Rain, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider, Playing In The Band > Crazy Fingers > Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance > Touch Of Grey. Pretty awesome end of first set, then second set before drums. For me the whole show was great and those are a sample of how well they played in California on a sunny day.

Thanks for any consideration,
CorkyO

Ill second that pick, and add 10/9/82 for a 2 show release. Both shows were a knockout. 1982, the best year at the Frost. Put it together with 83 & 85 and you would have a great box set.
