    Numbered and limited-edition to 12,500, this 17CD set celebrates the band’s rich history at “the world’s most famous arena,” introducing six previously unreleased shows recorded at MSG between 1981 and 1983. It offers a front-row seat to the Dead in the early 1980s, an overlooked and underestimated era of rebirth for the band. At the time of the recordings, the group featured Brent Mydland. Mydland’s vocal power and colorful keyboard palette energized the band, invigorating older material like “The Wheel,” “Truckin’” and “Eyes of The World.” He also gave the band more musical flexibility, which encouraged them to dust off rarely aired treasures like “Dupree’s Diamond Blues” and “Crazy Fingers.”

    IN AND OUT OF THE GARDEN touches on the three-year period after 1980’s GO TO HEAVEN was released, a time when the Dead were constantly on the road, playing more than 200 dates. While they were in no rush to return to the studio during this time, they continued to write new music. In 1982 and ’83, the band performed most of the songs that would appear on 1987’s IN THE DARK. The new collection includes performances of four songs from that album – “Touch Of Grey,” “Hell In A Bucket,” “Throwing Stones,” and “West L.A. Fadeaway” – plus the B-side, “My Brother Esau.”

    Due September 23rd, IN AND OUT OF THE GARDEN comes in a custom box featuring new artwork by Dave Van Patten celebrating the band’s eclectic fanbase, with a cavalcade of illustrated Dead Heads. The collection also includes detailed liner notes by award-winning music journalist David Fricke, who explores the band’s connection to the Big Apple. It features newly restored and speed-corrected audio by Plangent Processes, mastered by Jeffrey Norman.

    ...so it was September 23, then it was going to ship on or around September 27, and now the release date is listed as September 30. So, looks like we're all Charlie Brown and dead net is Lucy promising to hold the football for real this time. Looking forward to getting this, at least a couple of comments on the digital release have suggested that the sound quality is high. Maybe September 30th will be the real release date, but one can only hope.

    The Listening Party downloads on the product page are mp3. There's a linque to an ALAC download of Feel Like A Stranger on my order confirmation. I think Fulda is looking for the ALAC downloads of Althea 3/9/81, and Ramble On Rose 3/9/81 that are listed under "Bundle Includes" on the product page. If they're out there, I've missed 'em too. IceCream, is there a separate Download Page? No matter, all will be forgiven once the MSG Box appears.

I have an account with UPS. Anytime that a shipping label is created for my address UPS notifies me that something is being shipped to me.
UPS notified me that something was coming from Gnarlywood and hour before Rhino notified me that a tracking number had been created.

Hasn't this box just been released? I don't get why people are bothered about tracking or getting emails to tell them something is on the way. If something hasn't turned up a few weeks ( depending on where you live) after it's release date, that's a different matter. But otherwise it may just be best to forget about it and trust it will arrive when it arrives. And if it doesn't, take appropriate steps. I've never been let down yet in the long run.

Yeah this production and shipping fiasco is the gift that keeps on giving. Received an email today that it will arrive October 6th!! Kind of pisses me off that music I paid good money for to get when released is being played on Sirius on Saturday while I wait for my order to get shipped. Bad show Dave.

FYI, received shipping notice, tracking says arrival on Saturday.
I’ll believe it when it’s in my grubby little hands but at least it’s in motion…

I got an UPS notification (I signed up a few years ago) to get ready for a package (from GNARLYWOOD). No notice from DEAD.NET but the day ain't over yet. Maybe they are sending a mass email later today. At least it looks like straight UPS and not UPS Mail Innovations.

Shipping Label created, which of course is not a shipping notification.
Product indicated UPS Surepost, which UPS describes as:

UPS SurePost® is an economy service for your non-urgent, business to consumer needs of low value. UPS makes the shipment pick-up, and the U.S. Postal Service® (USPS®) makes the final delivery, seven days a week. Sunday delivery is only in select areas.

Good to see they think the $200 plus I spent with shipping and tax is low value.
Surepost is the worst, takes at least a week.

Looking forward to it by next weekend.

Yesterday I got a shipping confirmation mail from the GD Store saying the box set was on its way. Using the tracking number I saw that UPS had created the label. Today I got an SMS from UPS saying that it will be delivered tomorrow. In the Netherlands. No alternative USPS tracking number from UPS either. Tracking showed that it is on its way. I would be truly amazed if it gets delivered tomorrow but I can only wait and see.

Looking at the tracking for mine I notice it is using UPS Worldwide Saver as a delivery method. This apparently guarantees (?) second day delivery to most places in the world, so since UPS has your item you may well see it tomorrow. This expedited delivery might explain the high postal charges. Of course, my order is at the ‘label created’ stage and has yet to reach UPS so it will take a little longer!

I'm not sure what's worse -- ordering on the first day of availability and still getting a delayed shipment email. Or finding out my $15 shipping fee only pays for UPS Mail Innovations, quite possibly the worst shipping service on earth. Maybe I'll receive my box set before Christmas. But I can promise you my tracking number will still only say "Label created" on the day it arrives. If it arrives.

Instead of stories from people who were there or discussion about a box set release from the early 80s!, or discussion about the new songs they're breaking out we get the longest ever version of Gripes about International Shipping Rates -> Space -> I Didn't get the E-Mail, with an encore of Waa I'm Getting it too Late-> U(P)S Blues.

Hey, did anybody get the new MMW box set? No - because they don't release anything. How about that killer '95 Phish run? Nope only digital. Here's to Dave and Company for continuing to release shows in analogue format.

Unfortunately, I am not joking. I still have not received DaP 41. But apparently it's on its way! Again!

And actually I never got DaP 39. I had a friend buy it for me in the secondary market, from Italy. Set me back $65. Extremely frustrating when you have a subscription since DaP 1, I can tell you.

One tip: do not ever move!

I actually foresaw this when I moved from a village in the Netherlands to Bonaire (in the Caribbean), so I changed my adress IN the Nerherlands to my mothers' adress in The Hage, a rather major city in the Netherlands. Having everything sent to Bonaire would be asking too much.

And I changed the adress not during the subscription year, but starting with the new year 2020. 37, 38, 40, 42 and (apparently) 43 arrived without any trouble. 39 and 41 never arrived, and 41 is now sent again.

But hey, it's the music that counts:)

I saw Rammstein at the LA Coliseum last Friday. What a trip... I don't ever listen to them but some friends are big fans and gave me a ticket. Helped that there was a black Chevy Camaro with 12k miles on it in the queue at Hertz when I grabbed a car.

Turns out Camaros are great for the driver and not so much for anyone who has older friends trying to get in and out.

Had a great, drunken dinner at the Rainbow Bar n' Grill and many fantastic moments of Southern California yet again. Had not been out there rocking and rolling for 8 years! Since seeing Motley Crue on their first "farewell" tour at the Hollywood Bowl.

This box set will arrive when it arrives, in a few days I guess. When it does I'll feel a little bit guilty for the indulgence (not sure why), immediately burn it into iTunes and put the whole thing on shuffle.

Be well everyone. We who are not in Florida, Russia or Ukraine are blessed.

I received a shipping notice with tracking on September 27th (my 55th b-day incidentally) and said estimated arrival is Sunday October 2nd. So far the tracking hasn't changed from "label created" status as of yet 3 days later. Sunday is 2 days away. I have doubts it'll arrive by then. It still has to get stuck in Illinois for another 3 days, so maybe by Sunday Oct 9th realistically.

I just received this box set. Can't wait to start playing it. But for the life of me, I can't find the number of the box set. Does anybody know the location of the individual box number? I'd appreciate anyone with better eyes than mine telling me where it's at. Thanks.

The box set number is printed on the right-side outer edge of the packaging, just under the magnetic flap. Box #06897 just landed in Irvine, CA :)

I have been going back and forth on purchasing this box set. It is not a question of getting it but more so regrading if I want the Cds or download. I am seriously running out of space. In my humble abode , our smallest bedroom is my chill out space. It is multi-purpose as it houses my computer, all of my CDS, and my Star Wars, Lego and Gi Joe collections. I think this release will be great, but I think I may go with the download because I am bursting at the seems. However I am particular about owning the CDs that I am not sure if I will be able to convince myself to go with the download. Regardless I am looking forward to everyone's reviews of these shows while I am making my decision.

On a different topic, I recently had weird awakening where I became, for a lack of a better word, obsessed with power trios. Cream is up there for me, but I also revisited Rush. I am familiar with their music, but I never really "listened" to it until recently. I have quickly become amazed by Rush's playing and I am taking a deep dive into their surprisingly large live catalogue. I would love to hear opinions from the Jedi Council who frequent these comments on this band. Also I would live to know if anyone caught one their live shows and what that was like.

9/30/22, Just received my In and Out of the Garden purchase. I always check all the discs on my computer, and this is what I found: Discs 4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 all are missing CD info as follows, Artist, Album, Genre, Track #, and disc#. You insert disc expecting to have the info show up, and there’s nothing. Disappointed now that I have this set, that I have to ask for a return, hoping the replacement isn’t messed up too.
