I agree with badger. Your offer is very kind but for the work and time that is required to get your recordings going, I could downlload 3 x as many shows from the net or sign up for vines and all I have to do is go to my mailbox and grab them. What I am getting at is that it is really easy to obtain shows in this day and age with minimal effort. What I am interested in is getting set up to do my own taping. I'd love to get some advice on how to get started... "The dire wolf collects his due while the boys sing round the fire"

Highvide your offer is kind, but I think most people here are now getting all the shows they need digitally as auds from Archive.org and as Soundboards from one or two well known well known torrent sites. Alternatively they are getting them from the the Vineyard on this site. Just about every show ever recorded by anyone is out there now.. You might get more interest if you publish a list of the shows you have..if some of them are new sources someone might take up your offer. Paisley..why dont you join the vineyard on this site to help rebuild your collection. Or go to some of the well known on line places to torrent or downlaod the shows you need. Good luck to both of you CB

I am thinking this thread might be somewhat Dead (^_^) or even worst - buried! Posted my offer 2 weeks ago (see below) and haven't gotten any responses or even see any signs of life on here! Offer still stands as of today (and indefinitely until I post here other wise!) Let's get on with the show.... Brother "A"

Although I have nothing to offer in trade except good karma, I'm asking if anyone's willing to send me some shows. I lost my considerable collection of all things Dead during the summer of 2008. While I was hospitalized for depression after my wife's death, I was evicted from my apartment, and lost everything. While I'm rebuilding the rest of my life, it would be great to be able to listen to some music, if you've got the time and inclination. Thanks to the community for being here! ...all the years combine...

A tape exists of this vintage show in Palo Alto: I used to own it. I can not find even a set list existing online. Hi Heeled Sneakers was played for sure... The date has been variably listed as 12-11-1965 or 12-18-1965, depending on when the Muir Beach Acid Test actually took place. Someone out there has a copy! Where are you? Greg Tyler Allison

I seem to recall that there's at least one Queen vine in the Vineyard already. Nowhere is it written that Deadheads can't like other music. Quite the reverse. Put me down as a fan of Freddie's power pipes, though I never really followed the band. Wotta voice that guy had.

70+ cassette tapes of live Hot Tuna shows & some solo Jorma. All eras.
Most are soundboards, some are audience/field recordings.
Most are on quality tape - Maxell & TDK.
They have been treated kindly and for the most part are 'indoor' tapes.

May have other rare live stuff too.

Will trade for live soundboards of non-Tuna , non-Dead stuff. Looking for 60s-80s folk, folk-rock rarities.
Will trade for commercially released CDs too (but not copies of - want the official released stuff with liner booklets & tray inserts. Don't need the cases.
Also wanting CD box sets, especially Bear Family stuff, limited releases etc.

Hi All!
I'm ISO any recording of Hydra (The band Particle with Mickey Hart) from 5/1/2005 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. This was a really fun year at Jazz Fest and this was the last performance of the festival. This was an absolute killer set. Thanks in advance for any help!

I used to collect cds/tapes a little when I first got into the Dead but as things have become digital, I got rid of what I had! Anyway, recently got myself a new tape deck and thought it would be fun to collect/trade again! I am happy to pay for shipping etc. Thx! phishinjo6@yahoo.com

I'd go with the FLAC if I needed em. Tapes just don't sound as good anymore. Outmoded. I have tapes if you want 'em. But, you'd have to come to WI. Long way for tapes in this day and age if you ask me...

I am looking for a home in the local Dead Community to give away some more of my cassette tape collection. I gave away the bulk of my collection ( ~550 tapes ) and saved about 150 of the very best for myself.

Now (03/14/22) having gone thru the above remaining tapes, I am giving away about 60 tapes, along with a tape rack. Looking for someone within driving range ( ~50 miles with gas prices ) of Providence, RI. 100 miles if you want to meet me half way.

Excel List of these tapes can be sent by email for your review if you wish

I'm very interested in hearing about your tapes. I live in Philadelphia but have a buddy who lives in Mansfield Mass and he can be my pick up proxy. Let me know if they are still available. Thanks

I’m hoping to begin my GD tape collection and discover more stories about the shows through the eyes of other Deadheads. If anyone has some tapes they’d send my way, I’d surely appreciate it! Send me a copy of your favorite show (especially if you were there) and a little bit on why it’s your favorite!

My husband has been seeing the Dead since the '70s. He has a bunch of bootleg cassettes that are looking for a new home (we are moving and don't have room for them and don't even have a cassette player). Does anyone want them? We'd rather send them to someone who wants them and we don't want them to end up in the landfill. We would want the whole collection to go to one person. Let me know and we can talk logistics.

I have an extensive collection of tapes that are fairly well organized and in Casio zip cases.
I started the collection in 1985 and I still have it in its entirety today.
Some of the tapes are duplicates of the same show, both AUD's and SBD's.
Let me know if you are interested.
I believe the total number of tapes I have is well over 300 ranging from the late 1960s (including a few of the Acid Tests, Egypt and other rarities).
If you are willing to pay the cost of shipping and perhaps a few extra bucks to help with transport, lets talk.
I'd like a good new home for this pampered collection.
Please advise, thank you. :)

Deadhead1974:

Pretty quiet around here, I see.

At the moment I'm extremely short on spare change for shipping, and raise that the question of international customs' interest in, or perhaps ignorance of such content. I do find myself salivating, but ya can't spend what ya ain't got.

Hopefully you can hang on to them until a more stable enthusiast turns up.

Roughly how many tapes are there?
What do you reckon domestic shipping will be?

Might be easier to find a taker if they know how much postage will be needed.

A lot of people probably filled up while the Internet Archive was still open trading on all formats.
I for one still have a tape deck, sadly didn't binge on the Archive when I could have, and can't afford the string of limited edition official releases that are so tantalizing.

Good luck!

It is over 300 tapes; closer to 400.

I would like a decent home for this carefully collected batch of tapes.

I don't know how much shipping would cost as it is a large collection from the late 1960's to the early 1990's. I suppose it depends on where you are located. I am in California north of San Francisco.

There are JGB tapes in the collection as well.

A lot of effort went into this and money too.

If you cannot pay the amount necessary to ship it with the Casio cases that they are in (its about 6 of them full), I don't know what to suggest.

Thank you for your interest.

You can probably get an estimate of shipping costs by measuring the approximate weight and size of the box they would fit into. Naturally, as you say, the destination is also a factor.

The size of the final package will determine the price scale which increases in steps by weight.
There will be a price scale for domestic shipping, and different price scales depending on overseas regional codes. The codes often seem to be determined as much by postal infrastructure as they are by proximity.

These rates should all be posted on the website of whatever delivery service you choose, be it USPS, FedEx, or whatever. These days some services have better coverage in different regions, while another is better for a different region.

For example, when I ship stuff to the US, I use a courier service, something like UPS, but when I send things to Europe, it's better to use a Post Office product.

For another example, back when I was trading blank tapes and postage for someone to dub shows for me, I put the tape in an envelope, weighed it, and bought the return postage for that envelope before including both the stamped return evenlope and the tape into second package, which, of course, also had to have postage. So, if all you're asking for is postage, that's totally reasonable. The only hold up is that no one knows how much the postage will be yet. It's hard to put your hand up and say, "Me," under those circumstances.

Another concern for international shipping is whether eyebrows will be raised at customs inspection, but there is no way to predict that. Essentially the tapes would be a gift with no commercial value.

I suppose collectors more knowledgable than myself could probably guesstimate the weight based simply on the number of tapes, but if you can somehow weigh the boxes, a ballpark figure should be just a few clicks away. Then, if someone from Kansas, or someone from Germany, or like myself, from Japan, or wherever, shows interest you can quickly refer to the chart and have an idea how much they should expect to send to you. You don't want to settle on a price, and then find out that isn't enough to cover shipping, right?

It also saves you packing everything up, taking it to the post office, and then having the buyer back out because postage was far more than expected. I reckon people would like to know what they're getting into before going forward. Personally, I imagine it's gonna be more than I can afford right now. Can't spend money I don't have, regardless of the quality of your collection. However, at this point, even if I was seriously considering your offer, imagination is the only thing I have to go on. See what I'm saying?

I completely agree with you, these vintage tapes could still provide a lot of joy to someone.
A lot of people still listen to tapes.
It would be a travesty to have them end up in the garbage.

@Deadhead1974, If you still have tapes available, I'm happy to pay for shipping. I'd be more than happy to give some of your tapes a new home.
Best,
WH
