Did disc 1 on the smaller system yesterday and was very pleased.
Disc 2 on the big system today and I cannot seem to turn down the kick drum.
Need an EQ to just turn that part down. Got the bass turned down to about 9 o'clock. Losing Phil just to get away from that drum. I'm used to this, from even way back in the DiPs when Mickey was involved in the remastering/mixing, but this is way too much. It would sound great in a disco or rave but seems quite out of balance with the rest of the sound in my living room setting. I think I'll just turn it up more and scare the cats. What the hell, the lady next door is pretty deaf anyway so why not. Simple solution to my first world problem.

Phish also announced their summer tour today. The Midwest and NE getting the shaft. Again. Fingers crossed they play the Sphere here on Halloween, although I am seeing them at the Hollywood Bowl in April. Apologies if I already posted that prior.

The HBO documentary regarding the album Jagged Little Pill was surprisingly good. Didn’t realize it sold approximately 30 million copies worldwide.

Saw them at the Greek last year and they were pretty incredible, so yeah, if you can see them at Red Rocks go for it.

Something about a 12-piece band fronted by the Slide Man and Herself Susan putting out the big sound on groovy R&B, space jams and little combos within the 12 players and her voice and his voice that gets me every time. And it's so cool to have been fans of each of them before they joined forces that makes it all even better.

For what it’s worth ( a good song IMO) I think the release is better than average and I was surprised at how good the two aud tracks sound. I think the second show is marginally better than the first but both are enjoyable.

Reading everyone’s requests for possible releases I can only quote Sir Henry at Rawlinson’s End, “I don’t know what I want, but I want it now”. I look forward to whatever comes my way although I’d prefer it wasn’t an ultra matrix recording. The mixed in audience sounds don’t sound right to me, but each to their own.

You aren't going to find out if Dave's 45 is good or awesome on here. You are going to have to listen to it to find that out.
The only thing with talking about American politics on here is that if you don't live in America,the chances are you won't know what people are talking about. Unless it relates to a major world event, or is something that can be seen in broader context than just the U.S. Not that it bothers me - there aren't that many anyway.

It would be great if a list of all the Grateful Dead tapes in the vault and in Owsleys banana boxes could be released. I'm sure that they have a list like that and it wouldn't be a problem to post it here on this site.

hey Deedee, I come to this site every day, to read and mostly enjoy the, as you call it, ludicrous posts on this site. I haven't seen any "liberal whining" that you speak of. Now I might have missed it so could you point them out to me? Now I know somedays things can be tough and one might feel the need to come on a groovy site and crap all over it, but really, this is not the place for such foolishness.
As far as liberal whining, well it surely isn't as bad as trying to install an illegitimate fake king, is it? I have read and read these pages and nowhere did I see anyone blaming someone else for ignorance or the world's problems. Unless it was supposed to be taken as a joke. Check sense of humor, I know it's difficult sometimes but life it seems is easier with a smile on your face.
As far as you oughta know if Dave's is good or awesome, why start a row, gee, follow your own recommendations and read a book or go to the library and check it out and listen to it. Music is very subjective and therefore what some think is awesome may be not to your liking and vice versa.

I second Billy The Kidd’d’s excellent suggestion to release a comprehensive list of all the Crown Jewels in the vault, including those Bear Banana boxes. It would be amazing to know what tapes are in storage, waiting to see the light of day.
Perhaps Dave needs an intern or two to help put the list together, and I’m thinking there would literally be thousands of volunteers on this site alone! If the TicketBastard fiasco with Taylor Swift ticket sales was bad, wait until Dave posts that he needs a “couple of helping hands”!!! ;)

I check in this site on a somewhat regular basis and I often notice snide political comments being made without repercussion or comment...unless the comment is not leaning left at which point the pile on begins. Take a look and you may find that there are a number of political comments criticizing those who the left disagrees with, often labelled as someone's political post for the month, and notice the lack of any outcry to keep politics off the site in response to those posts. I stopped coming here as regularly in the spring of 2020, when this site pretty much turned into a political message board intolerant of anything other than unquestioning support for Joe Biden and the agenda of the left. Questioning whether all of the random destruction and rioting after the George Floyd murder was an appropriate response was heresy. Pointing out the unassailable fact that Joe Biden was the primary author of the federal laws escalating and militarizing the drug war during his decades as head of the Senate Judiciary Committe responsible for the drafting of federal criminal law was blasphemy and resulted in demands to keep your political thoughts to yourself. If you don't want politics on the site, don't make political posts. If you do make political posts, realize, someone is going to disagree and may want to respond. And if you plan to respond with a viewpoint to the right of center, prepare to be piled on.

I keep getting drawn back to two excellent live Can cds this week, both From 1975 - "Live In Brighton" and "Live In Stuttgart". Both doubles, every minute filled with exploratory improvisational rock. Although nothing else I have heard in rock music sounds like it. The Dead are name checked in the sleeve notes to the Brighton set, with Can's wall of sound amp lay out apparently influenced by pictures of The Dead's set up. Their pre concert music ritual ensured they were up and flying from the moment they took to the stage to the moment they left it.

I can remember the response to George Floyd's death here in England -which denied discussion in a way. Some people I knew were dropping on to one knee so fast you would have thought they'd been shot.

Wanted to say thanks Dave for number 45 with the 2 Betty's, awesome sound, some fine jams.

Normally business is not something I want to discuss here, but I also wanted to thank David Zaslav the CEO of Warner Discovery. I had wondered if he would sell off the Warner Music Division, but instead, he has strengthened it. I received my copy a couple of days before official release date and the packaging with one exception appears better produced, etc.

So thanks to both Dave's, and of course all of the other contributors to the Dave's Pick Series. Nice Job!!!

I always ask that politics and religion not be discussed here. I have opinions on both, but try not to discuss or respond to others posts. For me, this is Grateful Dead Headquarters and all I want out of it is Grateful Dead stories. I have been a head almost 40 years, and yet, I know I still have a lot to learn. Just their 30 year life, and the millions they touched, should be enough to keep the discussion going for a long time. I prefer Dead show discussions and then any other music discussion, like see below.

Dave Rock, a few weeks back I mentioned not being able to get some brain cells to pull back memories. It was about the death of Crosby and also Jeff Beck. The Crosby story, from what I remember, concerns Crosby opening for Grateful Dead on 12/31/86. I think it was Crosby, then Neville Brothers then at 10 -10:15 Grateful Dead first set. Crosby talked about being in prison, so I had to go back and do some research. I thought he said, "I was in a Mexican Prison, and believe me (a warning!!!) you definitely dont want to go there". When I did my research, he was in a Texas prison on bunk charges from years before he turned himself into authorities. Now Texan and Mexican can be confused but did he say "I was in a Texas prison and it was no better than a Mexican prison." Not sure, as again I had the Big Head. Regardless, he was just warning the audience to be careful as times had not gotten better for the party people, it may have gotten worse. Which I think it was worse in the mid 80's then at the beginning of this psychedelic adventure. Like I posted about some Ventura shows, it was a laid back time, the DEA had not begun its infiltration or as I call it the deepening of the Federal Government's illegal war on American Citizens. (OK some politics). But now, we see renewed strength in scientific breakthroughs concerning Psychedelics being very positive in helping those suffering from severe trauma.

And to the Feds, you have already legalized Marijuana as you made CBD legal nationally, which of course, is from the male plant. But you cant have a male without a female. Hopefully, my last political thought here, everyone in Washington D.C. is most absolutely the deepest of SCUM!

OK I apologize for that one, but only because I made a political statement.

More 1977 ...but nevertheless, while I have come to think 5/8/77 may be overrated, 5/7/77 now seems very underrated. And as RSD releases can be bought in the UK ...I think I'll be stepping out for this one.

And Umphrey's is indeed a great band. After I got off the bus, from seeing GD shows, I did a lot of jam band exploration starting in the early 1990's and going through about 2005, when Katrina hit New Orleans. The last time I saw Umphrey's McGee was Jazz Fest at night 2003 at the State Palace Theater. It was Umphrey's McGee opening for Moe. It was a great show. I saw Moe with Medeski Martin and Wood in 2002, I think, maybe earlier. The night after Umpff at the State Street Theater, on Saturday, I went to Gov't Mule at the Saenger Theater where they filmed "The Deepest End, record, cd, dvd. I always recommend both the CD and the DVD, as the cd has songs the dvd doesnt and vice versa. Warren Haynes and Mule put on one of the best concerts I ever saw. Show started around 7pm and let out around 3am. If you havent seen I recommend highly. Just double checked on ebay and the 2cd set with the dvd is available brand new. I bought them separate, I am assuming they have re-issued as for years you couldnt find the dvd at all. (Edit, looks like import so watch the dvd region as i did not check that out.)

Saw a bunc of crazy stuff that weekend. East Coast West Coast Jazz Allstars at Howlin Wolf's, Buckethead, and as written before, The Funky Meters which show started at midnight Sunday-Monday.

Have not been back to New Orleans since Katrina...I am to old for some of this sh1t. Just read, the State Palace has not been renovated since Katrina which is sad as it is almost 100 years old.

It is worth a look to see pictures of both of these wonderful Palaces...makes me think of the old Kaiser Auditorium, many of the same issues, everyone wants renovation, but it is always very expensive.

And ummm, the aforementioned bass player I saw in 1977 or1978 with Parliament Funkadelic. The Mothership Connection! Absolutely Wild as the ship landed.

Oh yeah, and Ellis D. Trails - so nice!
