shn files

You are a lucky chimp, boffo! Thanks for sharing yor good news. These are likely to be files of live shows. .shn is a format for compressing and storing music files as data without losing data each time it is copied (=lossless). Most digital music trading uses this format (or .flac which does the same thing). What can you do with them? Here is my suggestion. You will need a fairly decent computer though 1. Find out what you've got. In each directory of shn files there should hopefully be a .txt. file which provides the show details. Open these files and and make a list of what you've got. 2. Some computer media player programmes will play shn files directly (foobar2000 can be downloaded for free) 3 Or you can download a package called 'Traders Little Helper' for free that will help you convert the shn files to a more accessible format for your own use. .wav for burning onto CDs or MP3 for ipods and such. 4. But you should not lose or wipe the shn files as these are what collectors and traders value most as a lossless source for making their own copies. A forum on this site provides much much more advice on this Forums>Deadheads>Tapers>Technical Discussions As for sharing, well you could post a list on the 'Tape Trading' Forum here Forums>Deadheads>Tapers>Tape Trading Topic and invite people to trade with you (for the SHN files). You should not sell them, but you can ask for help with blank CDs and postage. or you could put put some of your treasure trove as vines through this site Forums>Deadheads>Tapers>The Vineyard or you could upload rare shows to a file sharing site for the whole world to find or you could offer the whole lot to someone else to sort out, maybe in return for useable copies once they are processed that's some ideas! shn files

i have recently been handed a very large stack of dead shows on cd's in shn format. what the heck am i supposed to do with them. i don't know how to listen to them or copy them to pass along. what the f*** is shn? it really is a big stack of music and i would really like to figure out how to hear it. any help out there?

Those were the Dead, not the Grateful Dead. Only Grateful Dead shows with Jerry are listed here. I was at the 2nd of those, July 3, 2004. Robert Hunter, Allman Brothers and then the Dead. 4 disc set tye dyed cover

1970's sometime and i cant remember where but my friend had that 4 disc set with the tyedyed cover and it has my favorite versions of and we bid you goodnight and bird song on it. i havent found it in stores, you're my last hope!

i've been to two shows in george,wa usa at the gorge, but i couldnt find them in the shows and lyrics section. it was in the early 2000's can anyone help me so i can post 'em? thanks guys!

this sounds strange

I am in search of a CD with music by the GD. What I remember from the top of my head is that it was published by an Italian label and has one single track. The title of both should be IT. The article said that it is a mix from a number of recordings of something long and "nameless" the Dead used to play quite often (which does not help a lot) and simply called "IT". any ideas, suggestions ? andré

Name that CD

OK.Does anyone know which CD this is? In the very beginning of the show before the band starts playing someone is on stage introducing the band members. When he gets to Garcia he says "on sometimes guitar Jerry Garcia and on some other times guitar Bob Weir ladies and gentlemen for the deadheads of the world the Grateful Dead". It's one of the commercial releases I just can't remember which one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

We got the call about the coma on the night of Thursday, July10; the shows were going to be Saturday and Sunday July 12 and 13. I presume papers probably got word on July 11 and ran it on July 12 (but I don't actually know...)

Trivia questions, who wrote that song, when was the last time the Dead played Deer Creek, etc.

I'm working on a project where I want to attempt to archive Grateful Dead bootleg lot shirts. I would like to create a print publication as well as a website celebrating the lot bootleg shirt. I would also like to document the stories and lore behind the shirts. I would love to hear any stories about anyone funding their tour by selling shirts, stories from shirt creators, any crazy Dead bootleg story (favorite shirt, shirts tha led to introductions, crazy adventures, etc... Looking for a certain 1978 show with Sunrise > Estimated

A long, long time ago, when we listened to tapes, a friend of mine had this great show from (I think) May 1978. Here is what (I think) I remember:
Terrapin > Sunrise > Estimated, which were mind-blowing. Probably Donna's best Sunrise; will bring you to tears.
I'm fairly sure that Terrapin went straight in to Sunrise. But I'm sure that Sunrise went straight in to Estimated. I don't think it was edited that way.
They were playing these tunes a lot at that time, but I've combed through the archives and just can't locate a show with this sequence; my memories may be at fault.

In Deadbase X, the lists for all 30 Sunrises:
5-12-77 Estimated>Sunrise>Terrapin
5-22-77 Good Lovin'>Sunrise>Estimated
1-11-78 Samson>Sunrise>Terrapin
4-11-78 Fire>Sunrise>Terrapin
That's all that have either an Estimated or a Terrapin on either side.
So maybe that 5-12-77?

Thanks for the assist; May 22 1977 is the one. Listening to it right now. You know what's wrong with that show? NOTHING! ;-) Many of the tunes played that night are easily top picks for me.

Does anyone have contact…

Does anyone have contact information for the photographer who was shooting family portraits at Laguna Seca in 1988? Today my daughter, who was three years old at those shows, mentioned that the post-show scene at those gigs is one of her earliest memories. I’d love to get a print of the photo that was taken by that photographer. Thanks!

30 Days of Dead archive

When doing a data transfer I managed to lose all of the 30 Days music I'd collected over the years
I thought I once came across a site that allowed one to download previous years, but darned if I can find it again.
Anybody help me find it again, or something similar?

HI I'm Malena and i would like to know more about the deadhead culture for a college project. Feel free to answer as many of the following questions as you like I'm thankful for every answer :)
1. How would you describe the Deadhead-Communities philosophy and mindset?
2. What is your favorite memory of the community or the concerts?
3. How did the Grateful Dead and the community affect your life and does it still have an impact on you now?
4. What , in your opinion, caused scandals linked to violence or drug overdoses?
5. What would you recommend new Deadheads that would like to join the community? Is there something they should keep in mind?

I live in England, myself

So as far as I am concerned the Deadhead Community is exclusively an online thing, that started for me about 10 years ago. Consequently it hasn't changed my life at all, although it is very pleasurable exchanging views with other people who listen to The Dead.
