We can't help it, really - for we, like you, are Grateful Dead fans above all else. Just like you, we've spent countless hours debating the merits of show over show, year over year. We've kept a watchful eye on your wish-lists and carefully considered how to make - excuse the cliché - your dreams come true.     All my CM's are lossless wav's. I'm happy to send some your way... As for Apple.. well.. I am in the had it with Apple camp, but I do own four IPod Classics and three waterproof shuffles. The device is ok, but my Fiios player does sound better (and louder) right out of the box. I do like the IPod interface though.. The interface between the user and the device itself. Simple and effective. What I don't like about Apple is ITunes. I've had it wipe out data twice and the annoying updates and changes to the software usually just make it harder to use. It tries to do too much, IPods, Phones, ICloud, etc.. all in one piece of software. For example.. its much harder to edit and change large amounts of metadata than it used to be a couple years ago. They have become what they were once squarely against. Well, at least they opened up ALAC to basically opened source instead of proprietary. So its a mixed bag for me.. but I still use them when I am out and about.

    Sorry KF12 - happy with music ripped ALAC
    I am now on the iphone - with Lightning cable (Cypher) for Audeze headphones- unbelievable listening platform. Can't feel it like a 200+ watt amp can offer, but for "portable music" unbelievable. Headphones are a bit bulky, but that little amp/cable steps it up big time. Downside with iTunes is all my CM's are FLAC, so that's either a cd or home listening...

    I still have the very first one and it works fine. I have a few of them, minis nanos touchs etc.I love um along with Apple. It does the job I need a computer and music player to do. I use GarageBand to do demos with. Started with ProTools, but didn't need all the bells and whistles. But mostly it just works!

    Not tryiing to start a fight but I have to disagree with your opinion of the ipod. I don't like Apple 's way of doing business generally- proprietary bs cost etc but I love my I pods. I bought the 160 classic the first week it came out and it's still going strong. The original battery is still good for 30-35 hours, just did a test. I'm pretty basic so I don't care about Bluetooth etc just my Bose headphones and 13 year old Logitech speakers but the best thing is their layout. I'm a little different in my listening. Rather than moving around I'll listen to a band chronologically for hours if not daysand the ipod lets you line it up that way. Ie. Stones 1st single 2nd single 1 ep 1 lp etc. British of course. I just came back from Thailand pressed play on Zappa's Freak Out 24 hours later landing in SF I was up to Studio Tan. It has traveled through the jungles of Thailand Cambodia and Loas. It goes to work with me etc. Oh yeah I also have the 60 gig which must be 14 years old. Filled that up with Dead and JGB.Best musical investment I have ever made hands down

    Agree about Poweramp. Good software. I like Foobar too, don't know if they have an app. I avoided apple for years. I only have the iPod cause it was free with my Marriott points. One of the perks of being a road warrior. When I listen to my free iPod with my free Bose QC-15 I always think it sounds great for the price! The iPod DAQ sucks. No doubt about it. I much prefer having the entire archive at my fingertips on the laptop. Pretty soon, they'll just implant a 10TB chip directly into my primary auditory cortices!

    hahaaha - glad you're torturing iTunes - it deserves it. Great for labeling my mp3s, but after 10 years of being an iPod owner, I got tired of replacing it every 3 years, due to some random, terminal issue. Fuck them, I decided (pardon my french, but it really irked me that I had to keep replacing these expensive items). The other thing is the sound sucks, as the EQ on an IPOD classic is nothing but presets, so you can't adjust shit. And there's no blue tooth on the classic, so no wireless headphones. Dated and shitty to begin with. Oh, and the teeny tiny artwork window - patooey! I spit on you iPod. I advise everyone on an Android phone to download Poweramp and install the biggest memory card that will it will take. You'll have huge artwork for your Dead, you'll be able to store the entire Dead library from '65 through '78, plus at least 100 soundboards (that's all I have loaded so far from the Dead); plus I have room for the entire Yes, Beatles, Stones, KISS, Who, Zeppelin, Floyd, and Rush catalogs. 320 bps mp3 format - sounds as good as WAV to thou human ear.

    I just checked that link and it looks like rhino has some more get shown the light sets for sale. I went all the way till payment then stopped. It is possible the window has opened. This has happened before. Do not take my word on it because with these guys we never know but it looks like it is in stock at rhino. They have to have extras because of the way they bill and reverse bill and then re bill. Good fortune folks and since people were talking about Phil's 50th. I was fortunate enough to sneak into that show during drums. It was quite a treat.

    I've easily got a bakers dozen of the things. Randy bastards, they reproduce like rabbits alright.. I probably have enough music that it will take the rest of my life to listen to it all.. My biggest complaint? I do not revisit stuff nearly enough. Dave's Picks 21 has taught me that. I am done with it for now, but it revealed more with each listen. Next.. more 30 trips. So many shows there with just one listen. 79 and 84 are up next....

i've seen two of your posts in one weekcomplaining about someone's negative comments-guess what, when someone has an opinion that is not aligned with your thoughts,even if it's about someone setting a price for something they selling or the band is slop before pigpen.its gonna be negative.it's their prerogative to say it's not worth it or no thanks.i think it's your emotional immaturity to anything negative or something you don't agree with.you could have left it to-"that's your opinion and i don't agree."instead you feel it's necessary to put someone down.earth without rain is a desert.

Hi all, A technical issue I'm hoping to resolve: Recently ordered this set, promptly downloaded the CDs to my iTunes collection. Getting 1-2 second pauses between most of the tracks which disturbs the flow of the music. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Gareth

It’s most likely caused by a setting in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences and see what is listed for import settings, as well as for playback settings.If you still can’t fix it then google it, there should be instructions somewhere.

You know, Gareth, it really comes down to what you like about the Dead... When I put in the Dead, I rarely want to listen to songs, so to speak. I tend to go for the long, inspired jams. For this, I would suggest the Winterland 1973 boxed set as No. 1, so far... though in general, shows from the 1973-1974 will be your best bet for this... That said, there are gems of shows throughout the years, though I've never personally been impressed by anything later than 1977. May 1977: Get Shown the Light (All Music Edition) is a great collection from this year. I also really love One from the Vault, Sunshine Daydream, & Dick's Picks, Vol. 14... The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack is an all-too-looked-over gem, too. Finally, if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Pacific NW '73-'74 boxed set while it's still available on this site. When these sell out on dead.net, they price-inflate like crazy to 2x their original cost or more.

Get Shown the Light, the box with the book, was limited to 15,000 copies, I read somewhere.But I can’t find anything on the All Music Edition that’s still available. Can somebody tell me how many of those were printed?

So, I'm totally showing my newbie-ness, but when the formats are digital, which is the best to download? I'm thinking about uploading to iphone for maximum bluetoothing. Also, is the first selection a CD collection of the four shows? I didn't see it listed behind the All Music Edition, so I figured it must be sold out.

16/44.1 is CD format, so you could convert to WAV or AIFF on a computer and burn CDs if you wanted to, as well as have the digital file on a music player.

The higher resolution files are for a computer or music player. If you wanted to burn CDs from those files you would lose the higher resolution that you paid more for.

Hi there,

I downloaded the ALAC of this digital download but when I import into iTunes it is not recognizing the artist or songs and not creating an album. For the same ALAC download for Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: The Complete Recordings Boxed Set it worked perfectly in iTunes. Why does this download now import correctly? Thanks if anyone knows or can help.

You should ask on the Dave's Picks 30 thread…there's more people on there and very few if any on here…hope it helps.

Since they sold out of the regular box set with all the bells and whistles, and had a huge demand, Dead.Net is selling an All Music Edition that "...only includes the 11 CDs in four folios and a booklet of liners, housed in a simple slipcase."

So, still the four shows, just without the special packaging and the unpublished book. This time, the order went through. Nothing on the website about this also being a limited release -- it's not numbered, but they don't specify if it's another set amount.

I've purchased the fantastic Lyceum LPs more than a month ago and still nothing arrived.
I've searched for the tracking number done by the GD store on the DHL site but nothing appears.
I've yet written to the customer helpdesk, but I'm curious if somebody encountered my same problem.

Just to state the obvious, they are indeed fantastic records. I am half way through 5/25/72 at the moment - one that no-one really mentions. Probably because of the night after, which is a shame as it's a great show in it's own right. Curious "Good Lovin" - 14min 53 seconds, and no Pigpen rap - he just sings the opening the verses and the closing ones some 12 minutes later. In between we have spot on r'n'b jamming like no-one else.
