Providence, RI - another show from the 30 Trips Porch Crusher. The night before at the Spectrum is part of the 60 Years Box.

Very very fine Let It Grow to close Set I. Unusual jammed out intro into Samson to start Set II - cool beans!

Great sound and performance, from the start to the finish - as are all three of the DK shows from this tour.

Note: I was fortunate enough to visit this venue, albeit briefly, some 9 years on from this show - along with the amusement park around it more extensively, while on an exchange program. I stayed with the family (of Lars) Rasmussen, and a man of that name eventually became the prime minister of Denmark (!) ... But visually he bears just a passing resemblance to the young man I knew there. It's a common name; I guess it's possible that it is/was him.

I recall it was an amazingly happy and calm, free and safe place. Many folks welcomed me into their home and took gracious care for my good experience/s. We two teenagers could ride the train into Copenhagen and explore really - anywhere - at that time. He showed me all the standard tourist spots of course, along with the less heralded (cool) locales. We went to Aarhus and out to Odense by bus as well. And so, I will always have a fondness for most everything/everyone Danish, and all the good things they bring to the world.

I like to think that a bunch of their fine spirit shines through (channeled by the GD) greatly in both this show and in Aarhus, along with the 3rd date that features the television broadcast.

    Prost!

More of the same: it’s not fall 73, but mostly pretty dern good and JG has been consistent and more energetic than some previous from the year!
So far, only the atlanta shows would have been a disappoint.

Will do Joey. Though it may be a bit as I may switch gears for while and do the final death tour later…chever way, I’ll try to report back asap!

“Joey, Joey, what made them come and blow you away”
Unfortunately there can be some tribalism within our culture just like elsewhere. And I’m sure you can understand some of this just from hanging out on dnet. etc…it’s cool folks dig what they dig, but some seem obsessed with proving what THEY like is best! I don’t compare apples to oranges so I find good sheet everywhere, I mean it is the dang nam GD!
Don’t let anybody influence what you dig! My advice is always to not read online crap until after I listen, if at all, “if you get confused just listen to the music play”, not the “noise”!
    Ok, onto 5/21…

DaP 16, CD 3…most definitely in my top ten single best discs of all time!

    Oro,
Can you give us a rundown of your favorites of '95 when you are done?
I only got to see the Grateful Dead in '94 and '95, I have always thought that the tapes aren't all that bad and a lot of people never bothered to listen to them, some of it is quite nice.
There was a time when a few older heads would be down right mean to me about it, telling me "you didn't see the Grateful Dead"

Listening to 5/16/81 (Disc 1 - Barton Hall from Porch Crusher #1). Edit - fun listen - had forgotten that SBD source ends after the Nobody's Jam and its an audience from Stella Blue through the UJB encore.

Stumbled across something/place/show called "2 Meter Sessions". Looks like a Dutch tv show with musical people.

Anyhow, youtube had a playlist of 476 cuts from this show. All studio quality. I grabbed them all, but I thought this would make a nice background sound when people are over.

I think i searched for 2 meter sessions.

    Throwing it out there.

Thought these shows were supposed to be terrible?
Not so so far. More consistent than Atlanta, and JG even speaks/jokes to the crowd. Auds not full frequency response, but clean and not much crowd.

Edit: not the best listen with all the good distractions, but sounds like really good so far (drums)…nice Days Between.

From a podcast of Deadshow of the month I recorded about 15 years ago. No break between tracks unfortunately. So if I stop listening after half an hour, I have to go back to the beginning. Anyway, it opens with China-Rider, and is well good.

busy GOGD day TODAY...gonna have to start today with PHL 1981-05-02, because,
as we all like to say, 43 years ago...my friends and I piled into someone's 1970's or was it a 1960's station wagon for a ride down to the Spectrum...that's right I've got some high-test GD with my morning java...

but, of course...this afternoon's acoustic set will be 1970-05-02 [diP#8] @ SUNY Binghamton

Everyone enjoy your day, with Peace & Love for All!

I was at that Spectrum show. One thing in particular I remember was peaking during Scarlet>Fire and saying to myself, "whoa, they just played that backwards, note for note". Funny, the things we remember. Finally got a copy of that tape, and, no, they did not. But it was a damn fine show!

Hey rockers!

Right now I'm listening to San Antonio November 12, 1971. Maybe not classic, but a solid, fine show. Lots of the new material on display and an Other One that bobs and weaves through many different spaces. Underrated and rarely spoken of. Always worth a listen.....

When it comes to Texas in 1971, Austin gets the love, TCU gets a hug, San Antonio gets stood up at the prom.

Our memory is and always will be as good as time travel gets, and in the meantime time will do the travelling for us.....

Rock on,

Hey rockers!

Right now I'm listening to 2/11/70, not sure why but it sures sounds great!!

My best friend and I were at the 6/21/84 show, we rode up on the motorcycles and had a blast. The three song encore was super sweet. Hey now!

And then we caught the SPAC show on the ride back. Those were the days!!!

Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain......

Dear friends

I truly believe that it is impossible to listen to the Grateful Dead while being unhappy. They won't banish unhappiness from your life, but will go a long way towards enhancing the joys that life brings.

Currently listening to "Dear Jerry: A Celebration....", with The Yonder Mountain String Band playing "Shakedown Street". The woman fiddle player's voice adds a great dimension to the song. Well well well....

started with Ball, then went to Heavy then to In-a-gadda-da-vida, then Metamorphosis (my favorite). What a great band, Via con Dios Doug.
Back in the day, every would-be drummer played that drum solo from the in-a-gadda-da-vida lp, it was like a rite of passage.
Personally, the guitar solo in this lp, the "iron butterfly" screeching during that solo is a sound that was coined as "Heavy Metal" before such a thing was thought of.
What a time to be young.

The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living......

In memory of the late Mr Walton, I am listening to 11/20/71. Bill, I salute you and wish you safe travels!!!

And how can man die better than facing fearful odds, for the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his Gods?

Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me, the carriage held but just ourselves and immortality......

"How do you do?"
1976-09-25 at that Cap Center in MD, can't resist that Set 2, and no need to explain, just listen and BTW thank that mr. latvala for diP #20
[inside diP #20 don't forget about that fan letter stating "always felt it to be unfair to force Dead Heads to turn to illegitimate & poor quality bootlegs"
and suggests that the band "put out a line of recordings of your concerts."]
and so to TPTB I say "keep them COMING!"

A little bit quicker and...
we might have time to say "How do you do?"
before we left behind

I saw comments when 1-22-78 vinyl came out that it was a bad pressing.

Cnkd - luckily mines 100% proof. No scratches or any audible interference at all. I have to say also, that whenever I have bought some L.Ps off deadnet, and one of them is less than perfect, it has always been replaced by them with no problem. I'd go for it!
Great show of course. I'm now back into 1978 for a while - Dicks Picks 18, featuring the two shows from 2/78, is a stone cold classic as everyone knows.
