I hope next year will bring the "Road Trips" back - it would be a nice way to highlight some years (93-95..) that might not make it as full show "Daves" - all 3 years have plenty of great playing, but few "all the way through" great shows..

Now just making conversation, and certainly never mean any disrespect to our good friend DV (GO VIKS!) lol, but feel a team strategic meeting is needed ; )
Maples needs to come out, but more for historic reasons than other.
It’s overhyped!…good, but not RJ, especially when you compare to the next four or five shows of the year.
So since we’ve had no success tunneling into the vault, YET!, (ever notice Kiethfans been gone down there for quite some time?), and there’s possibly only a limited number of boxes left, we need to make em count!
Also, most boxes, this most recent included, usually have a show or two similar to Maples: good but perhaps not RJ. It fills out the box and is a good way to release some of “those” shows.
So, all things considered, one could lobby hard that strategically it would be most beneficial to include Maples in a box with those magnificent first four or five following shows of February 1973. That would be one of the best top boxes ever, folks would get their Maples box checked, and it’d save a Dave’s for something else 😁

Maples overrated?? Really? I don't know, sure seems like a blockbuster to me, but then again Dave will never ask. I do think it might fair better than this Scranton release.

February 73 would make a great box, as long as it includes what they have of 2/19. Although I'm not a huge fan, Maples is very solid and of course historic. My personal favorite is Madison. But since they recently put out a 1973 box, another one so soon seems unlikely.

Maybe it's time they realize it really is time for a 1970 box. Although there is enough in the vault already to do that, it might depend on what kind of progress is being made with the banana box material. Personally I hope for complete recordings of the February and April Fillmore West runs. Maybe even the August Fillmore shows. All of that would be very interesting and would sell well.

42 years ago I was up in Palo Alto to see the Grateful Dead play their first show at the Frost Ampitheatre, and what a knockout of a show it was. 1982 was my favorite year at the Frost, and 10/9 & 10/82 would make a fabulous release. Fun times!

More like a wish list but anyways, first off. Wow! I have learned so much more facts about the Dead than I could have imagined from just these message boards, and the knowledge keeps on flowing. Thank you so much to all the good folks posting such personal experience and history.
Anyhoos.... The (alleged) 1983 release from the autumn tour for #52 should be a goodie, so no disappointments there.

Though as for 2025 I am calling for (or guessing) a 1976 pick, hopefully 8/4/76 Jersey City, NJ. I also agree with what a few others posted & think BOTH 1982 Frost shows would make for a nice start to the subscription year as another double Brent release for #53. 1973 is also due in my opinion {last picks were #32 spring tour & #38 autumn tour} and I am partial to either 9/15/73 Providence RI or 9/26/73 Buffalo NY. Now, that leaves one more pick for the year. 1991??? Anyways, I am interested in all of this but more intrigued as to what the extra disc pick #54 is!

53 four disc, Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood, CA '72 and '74 ?

I am stoked about that last idea of FourWinds.... for a double show, 4 disc release covering multiple years. Thematically it's very reminiscent of the "River" & "MsG" boxes, also the PNw box.
A venue themed & multiple year, two shows Dave's Pick would speed up the release process considerably and provide for some interesting nuances between the shows & years. Especially for them single show stops on certain tours, like a `72 & '74 Hollywood Bowl set. Got me wondering what other good years and venues would work well with that!?

I would love to see 3-26-73 come out. The 2nd set Wolfman Jack intro to Ramble on Rose.

And 3-13-71 Jenison Field House at MSU. Not sure if any recordings are out there - maybe in a banana box somewhere?

There seem to be a number of posts about a possible future 1970 release(s) from banana box tapes. I don’t understand why anyone thinks that there would be any new or uncirculated 1970 recordings in the banana boxes. Seems like wishful thinking to me. An uncirculated 69 or even 68 show, maybe?

It's pretty clear that the February, April, and June Fillmore West runs were recorded. Parts are missing, especially from 2/5, 2/8, 4/10 and 4/11. Where are those tapes? Maybe in those banana boxes? I think that TPTB know they have a real windfall there, but they're being very tight lipped about it.............

We do know that OSF has the April 69 Avalon run, although 4/6 remains incomplete. Maybe the Arks are in there too................

There's some late 69s we need big upgrades on, especially Halloween and Crockett. More wishful thinking?????

Although Dave L claims not to have looked in the banana boxes until after Bear’s passing, I imagine it’s likely that Dick went through them. So if there was a large hoard of missing tapes in there, we would probably know what they were. Hope springs eternal through…

Had to login to see about changing my address after a fourth move in five years, this time just two miles shy of Canada. Until the end of the month, gonna work a few days at the old job 2h45m away. Some awesome music and scenery makes it bearable. Started with 6/10/73 with filler of 3/28/73, then a String Cheese show from Asheville in 2018, currently going to make my way through Pink Floyd The Early Years, some terrifying soundtrack music for the morning to keep it interesting. Anyhoo, checked upon the order, and saw the thumbnail for DaP 52, looks to be an Ostrich Race, but too small to make out details, but lo and behold, on the order page itself, the date and venue are revealed. Gabor Szabo album "High Contrast" from 1971, where the most lively un~mellow song is "Fingers" & still a good jam!

That Blue Note box set is gold standard, literally and figuratively too. Any of the Jarrett Standards with Jack and Gary are worth a listen or three. "Last Dance", KJ with Charlie Haden, then Kenny with Charlie on "Night and The City". There's a lot out there from Fred... and Kenny, "Green Chimneys" going back aways and recently, "The Source".

Gotta admire the man who gets his Xmas list together before Halloween. Especially when he wants jazz!

A couple recs for Oro, based on the ask:

Oscar Peterson: you can almost pick at random from his catalogue, the guy was so consistent, but if I had to rec one, I would say Exclusively for My Friends, which is a set of live recordings done before very small select audiences (hence the title) that includes both trio and solo stuff that's really outstanding.

With Mehldau, I feel like the guy has evolved so much since the early days that I almost can't listen to the older stuff, even though I loved it when it came out. Part of this is that Brad has worked at playing more recent compositions (Beatles, Radiohead, etc, rather than just Great American Songbook stuff), and he's talked about how it requires a completely different approach that's changed his playing. Anyway, I think Day is Done is really good, nice variety of material and approach. Also really like Where Do You Start, with its wonderful version of Hey Joe.

My favorite Art Tatum is Piano Discoveries, which comes from a private party where Art (who was blind, ya know) didn't know he was being recorded and kind of let it all loose more than was typical. I have this on vinyl, but I think they may have come out with an expanded CD version. Which I should probably put on my Xmas list, come to think of it.
