Easy to go with Jim Morning Dew. The crashing crescendo at the end of the 80's period, wow.

But Stella Blue could easily slide into that postion, I think the lyrics are more touching.

For years I thought Stella Blue was a woman, then in some show, some tape, somewhere the lyrics hit me like a hammer. Now the only wonder is he slipping in to sleep or death?

Brit shows - me and a buddy can talk in Python clips (I have another friend whom I speak Honeymooners and Abbott & Costello talk). Shows we watch until lines become understood statements between friends are like conversational short hand. If you know Faulty Towers, then Manuel's "Eventually" will be understood. "Say No More".

But my favorite and I think one of the greatest tv shows ever written is "The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin".
The original one with Leonard Rossiter, NOT the remake. This show has 21 half hour episode that are so tightly written that if you laugh at one line, you miss 3. I didn't get where I am today without knowing a great Brit show! Neither Mrs CJ or I have ever missed a Reggie"

But has anyone seen the release date for Dick's Vol 3 vinyl. Sure, we can order tomorrow, but when is it coming? I believe it was experience that kept us on the hook for over a year on some release,,, it did come, but you really had to wonder for a while there :-)

Hi Dennis, if past experience is any guide, the Real Gone vinyl version of DiP 3 will be released on its "for sale" date (which is Nov 14). I've bought a couple other Dicks from RG and they have shipped within a couple of days. I want to say they arrived within a week of purchase.

It's nice to see Bless Its Pointed Little Head getting some love. I have always love love loved that record.

It might be heresy to say so around these parts but I have it on pretty darned good authority from someone who was actually THERE that before 1969 Airplane was a better live band than the Dead. Listening to BIPLH this seems entirely plausible. Great playing from Jack and Jorma. Great tunes. And Gracie was unbelievable then. The Airplane crashed and burned and the Dead went on evolving and eventually became the greater, more influential band. But man, they were fun while they lasted.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to find a shrubbery.

How come we can't get squared up cover art for Dave's Picks? That angled picture is not really useful in any application or device.

Anyways, yeah! I am Gratefully satisfied, loving that full Help~Slip Frank's Tower with a subtle segue into an excellent Let it Grow! Admittedly, I start the pick at Hell in a Busket, and not because of sonic patches in the duo of Alabama~>Promised Land.
I have to say, after hearing the Alabama Getaway from Dave's #47, St. Louis at the Kiel, I can't hear any other versions.
In conclusion I love this autumn '83 pick, and am ecstatic to learn it was an old gold Taper's pick back in the day, I can understand why. The melange & melody of songs after an excellent Drums~Space is truly stellar, with extra long segues between the tunes.
I've got this pick blended well with the Dave's #39 'Philly' pick from the spring tour and the 1983 MsG box shows on a mega playlist. Dick's 6 fits in well all the same, as does the 10/31 bootleg I've got.

You got it RYXS. And while I was specifically referring to closely related releases in the DaP series you can expand it to include all the archival releases from a particular period.

In the thread for Friend of the Devils, for example, I mentioned "Turn on Your Lovelight: 11/2/69 to 2/2/70"; you could add 11/8/69 (DiP 16) to that one, as well as some shows - two I think - from the Download Series. (I don't own any downloads).

I know Dave gets a lot of stick for his spiel about "well this show was almost released back in ___ instead of ____". But perhaps some of these DaPs were originally meant to be part of a box set. Whatever the case I'm glad we now have them. And I'm looking forward to the third DaP from "Summer 1990" whenever it gets released.

Better yet, release 7-21,22,23-90 complete audio/video.

Totally off topic but, who you got tomorrow? Mike Tyson or Jake Paul? Anyone else curious to see how it goes? Those early Tyson fights were something to see, he just knocked people out quick. Wondering if he can pull it off at 58 against a 27 year old. My 26 year old son argues that Tyson has no chance but given that I'm pretty much the same age as Tyson, I like to think he could win it. I may have to sign up for Netflix so that I can watch, could be interesting.

The RSD 2019 Warfield disc is on Amazon for 20 bucks, which is confusing, but I was happy to finally get one. I don't think it's a reissue.

on the Tinley Park '90 videos. I know we all like to get completely immersed in the sound, but for me, seeing Jerry's fingers up close and doin' the work is about as good as it gets.

That was a brutal ten pages to scroll through.

First off, I like this pick fine. I had always written off 1983, but the Boise show and this one are pretty solid. I don't care for the Spring Philly show though or the Philly 1984 show. I think I am going to pass on the subscription this year for the first time since year 3 and pick up shows a la carte as needed. I was never a completist in my show collecting, just wanted good examples from years and I am feeling a bit saturated at this point. Plus, I sense economic headwinds on the horizon and collecting Dead shows may be a sacrifice to be made. Hope I am wrong about that. We'll see, maybe once they announce #54 I will change my mind.

I like the list of favorites in the DaP series. The Wichita 11/17/72 show was one I actually didn't expect to like and it is one of my favorites. One of my favorite moments in the series is in the Philly Spectrum show 1973-- what I call the 'Backwards Dark Star.' They do the 'space jam' after Truckin' and transition into a short little 4-minute Dark Star. The crowd seems to understand what they witnessed and roars after the verses. Love it.

Oh yeah, Wharf Rat-- that Nashville one is the very best, but the Scranton 1971 release reminded me how very fine the early versions are with Pigpen's haunting organ. Don't get me started on ballads, not a big fan. That said, I never considered Wharf Rat one of Jerry's ballads, just a good rock song.

Stealth boxes-- love that late March and early April 1973 one. He also put out a Fall 1977 stealth box with Colgate, Dekalb and Binghampton over the course of the series, plus there is at least one show in early November 1977 in the Dick's series. Lots of shows from Fall 1971 in the DaP series, too-- Felt Forum, Ann Arbor, Albuquerque.

A couple comments

First, I am a sucker for underdogs. Second, I'd like to think Mike Tyson today is a different man than Young Mike Tyson. He appears to have turned a corner at some point, probably when he was in prison. Not saying is has aways been a terrific human, but the new Mike is a little bit likeable.

He has been seen at least once hanging out with Bob Weir, which sort of ties this conversation to the band beyond description. Finally, there is at least one story floating around that he died while on acid and of course came back home probably with a different view on the details of life.

Plus, there's his cameo in the Hangover. I'm pulling for Mike.

....seen recent videos of him training on TV. He's still a beast. Plus, Paul is a lil' bi*ch!

Many, many years ago I went to Fort Lauderdale for winter break. Towards the end of the week, we found ourselves on an extended bender at some generic tiki bar drinking mai tais by the gallon.
