It's all over but the crying for Denver. The only hope I have is to jinx you by saying Buffalo has this in the bag, lol. Our pass coverage is abysmal and no one seems to be able to rush the QB. We are clearly outclassed here. There's always next year, lol.

    Incredible late 60s photo collection

a general fyi - just stumbled across this - kickstarter re an incredible collection of 1000s of photos - seemingly professionally shot - color slides and b/w prints from late 60s San Francisco/Haight/Golden Gate Park etc./political rallies/protests. photographer unknown, purchased in storage locker auction 1980s (sound familiar?), many of the rolls undeveloped (now being processed). bonus content - some great photos of the Dead performing ca. 1967. search kickstarter "who shot me - stories unprocessed". also a blog post on internet archive for the project, as well as a utoob video. Ultimate goal (I think) is to have photos available on archive. the photos they include in the presentation are freaking amazing.

Oro - the Dreams of Gaia is gorgeous - and a gateway to a whole bunch of artists in that "genre" as the included booklet has an excellent discussion of each track. Get yourself a copy and enjoy!

out working today. enjoy your Sunday friends!

Billy, I'm a bit jealous. Never got to see him. The closest was I took a day trip to St. Louis one time, and I saw Fahey was playing that night, but I couldn't talk any of my friends to stay (of course no one had even heard of him). But I did get to see another hero, Dave Van Ronk, play one time in Atlanta. Small bar, less than 100 people. It was supposed to be 2 different shows, but with so few people, no one was asked to leave. I was by myself, and the owner sat down to to say hi, and when I told him I specifically drove in town to see Dave, he took me over to meet him....!

Love the triple encore with the Band on this! I had first listened to the FM broadcast on that night - and recorded it onto Maxell IIs ... And therefore it had many, many replays between then and my 1st show in the fall - 10.14 - Hartford.

Ripper!
Not sure I’ve heard the whole show before?
Quite the Sugaree! And then continuing up and onward!
Rut roh, too much listening, not enough house cleaning lol

S-W-B: solid first show! I’d say that one hangs well with the previous night?

Sun King. Cool story. Seems I’m going to have to check out JF as he keeps popping up?

Merry Christmas, fellow rockers!!!

Nice to see Aarhus get some love, it's one of my favorite E72 shows. along with Newcastle. Two great shows that rarely get talked about.....

In regard to Kingswood, I've told the tale before, long motorcycle ride up there, the three song encore made it all worthwhile........

Christmas... is not an external event at all, but a piece of one's home that one carries in one's heart.....

Rock on,

Doc
The earth has grown old with its burden of care,
But at Christmas it always is young,
The heart of the jewel burns lustrous and fair,
And its soul full of music breaks the air,
When the song of angels is sung.......

Might as well, might as well…it’s another shorty and I think I have enough time before Santa comes home from work!
No Bueno, if she hears Dead playing instead of Xmass tunes she’ll give my presents back to Santa!!

There is something about Aarhus that stands out…

Seasons Greetings to the Good Doctor!
Reminds me, haven’t fired up any Run Rudolph Run from 71 YET!

Won’t spoiler set list, but some fun firsts!
Perhaps a touch of occasional sloppiness, but it doesn’t matter, as you can just tell their having their big end of year fun!

Onto 12/29/84 now. Starts out strong and so far so good…

A good candidate for the next E72 vinyl release.
Complete show, not the HYH chop job.

There is a reason this show (albeit chopped) was the very first thing released from the vault: The Other One - Comes A Time and on through to the end of the show is all mindbogglingly and jawdroppingly great and intense.
Having the whole show in the trunk, or hopefully yes on vinyl, gives those 2nd/3rd set pieces a better context (of course) - as the first set does have some different pacing/flow & formulation of the 'spokes on the wheel'. Then they come back out absolutely swinging with the Good Lovin'. An All-Time classic show ...
Veilen Dank!

I started listening to Dicks Picks 3 yesterday on vinyl - a selection of tracks from 5/22/77. It is an incredible album, in terms of sound quality, choice of material and playing. It occurred to me that I might enjoy this more as it is than if it had been expanded to include the whole show. There have been quite a few Dicks Picks released on vinyl that have made me think this way.
Maybe, for me, having heard these songs so many times in so many different permutations, highlights of shows are becoming more enjoyable that the whole enchilada.
Not a popular view, and not one I would have had a few years ago.

You are correct, Deadvikes - I forgot that one was out so early.
8.13.75 is quite good (to my ears), and some folks swear by it. But it always seemed a little sterile/restrained to me - until Jerry starts to let loose some fire during the Eyes.
I have always preferred the aud that circulated of The Bob Fried Memorial Boogie 6.17.75, and the (flying!) Blues for Allah segment from the SNACK benefit.
I am hoping that we can get 6.17 in some form this year. And a re-release of the SNACK set (with BfA 50th?) would be greatly appreciated, as I missed getting Beyond Description back in the day ...

Man, still quite a chunk of 77 left, depending on how accurate you want to be on "Spring". I count 10 shows between march and may. 11 for the balance of the year. Together that would be the size of E72.

They could call it "77-Done!"

Should be priced about 600 bucks!

Like I said, big, heavy, wooden, requiring its own shelf! :-)

Strat-They remastered it in HDCD specs in 2007 and it was a big upgrade to the original. Still have the original but always listen to the remastered version now. Still have my 100 year hall copy as well, but it is in rough shape.
Listened to 5/26/72. Never disappoints.
TN John, will have to get the New Years Cow Palace show going next week, another favorite of mine.

I want the whole enchilada Daverock.
With chips, guacamole, salsa, and a margarita on the rocks with salted rim.

Not all chop jobs are chopped equally.
DP1 vinyl has the Phil jam (sometimes called Philostomp), but it wasn’t included on the DP1 CD.
The vinyl also has Jerry’s comment before WRS. Nothing important, but you wouldn’t know it was there if you only ever heard the DP1 CD.

The thing about complete shows is that you can make them a chop job by hitting the skip button, or by making your own playlists on a computer.
But with a chop job you can’t turn it into a complete show.

6/4/1977 taped by Rob Eaton. Is this the fastest NFA ever? Or perhaps it was the party favors. I recall Dick Latvala raved about this Forum show but noted there is no SDB in the vault.

If interested in a new road trip story from that June 77 run, I posted that one the Oroboros dragon thread. As usual brevity is not my long suit.

After the glory of 11/15/71, I am unfortunately in an "anything but GD" mindset. So, I challenged myself to listening to Public Image Limited's Flowers of Romance LP on that toob.

I bought the record when it was released and was shocked by its almost unlistenability. I tried a few times over the years but had to stop.

I am trying again....I finally hear some listenable material.

Do you have what it takes to listen to the entire album?

I challenge you to a friendly wager of nothing.
