started by dstache Here is the second installment of the 1973 SHN/FLAC vine. Again, this part consists of only 2 DVDS in order to keep the vine moving quickly. Please keep this vine in SHN/FLAC format only. If people want this vine converted to WAV, and someone wants to convert, feel free, but please start a NEW VINE. The remaining 3 parts to this vine will be posted later over the next two weeks. Note, this and the other 73 vines I am circulating came to me via another source. I have not listened to any of it. I already have most of the shows in Part 1 in excellent sound quality and will not be converting anytime soon (maybe later in life, when I have all the shows I want, I will go back). I say this because, based on archive.org, I believe there probably are some sound quality issues on this part. So if you already have 4/2/73 and you just want the absolute best shows from 1973 (i.e., you are not a completist), then you may want to skip this part. Part 1 on the other hand should be a keeper; I grade 3

I've finishing up listening to the Powell-Ladner source for 5/13 right now. According to reviews on archive.org, this source has has a much fuller sound than the flat Minches source, though this is much hissier. I opted to convert this one. I grade the sound as a B+ SBD. If it wasn't for the hiss, this would be an A-, maybe an A SBD. That being said, the first 2 discs are good performance wise and the 3d and 4th discs are Very Good, especially the Playing and the He's Gone >Truckin>drums>Other One > Eyes > China Doll. This last sequence is the real deal. The outro to He's Gone is sweet. The Other One is incredibly spacey, more like a Dark Star than an Other One. And the Eyes is killer. If someone converts the Minches source, let us know what you think, and if someone converts both, let us know which you think is better.

update

Out tomorrow to my friend across the river. BTW, I listened to the 3/30/73 Cotsman source the other day and grade the show as Very Good. The first disc is a rough but listenable B AUD. I don't know what it is, but I find myself being able to enjoy these less than stellar AUDs these days. The 2d and 3d discs are A SBDs. Highlights include a first set closing Playing, a hot second set opening China Cat (especially the transition to Rider), a rockin' GSET, and a beautiful Eyes.
