Great combo to open. Should have done it more.

The 'Foolish' shines

Jerry owns the So Many Roads, and I agree the Jackstraw>Foolish is hot too. Second set was pure summertime goodness, with a long stretched out Eyes with Jerome shining. Brokedown was sweetness. Average setlist but the playing was solid as was 1993 as whole.

I have to wholeheartedly second your thoughts, SMR. This was the first time I went into a show with no "wish list" for the setlist. I hadn't seen the boys in nearly a year, and I was open to whatever they laid on me as long as they played it well. Boy was I rewarded! Nothing fancy from the setlist-- just some sublime playing on a beautiful summer evening.

I remember hugging a tree on the hillside and watching the liquid thingies on stage make music then someone helped me too my bus. I have since then visited the tree several times while attending hookahvilles, it still loves and remembers me...as I do Jerry.

Traffic from Columbus to Buckeye Lake was horrendous two lane highway jam. I got off and back on at every exit to make some time, as my father had taught years earlier when he drove mid-size trucks. Made it to Buckeye as Foolish Heart was playing. I had passes with a cousin of Mickey's. We were driven in a golf cart looking for Cassidy and our passes. We found them and headed inside. Stood by the board with Healy at the helm. Spent the break backstage talking to a young female security guard who was smitten with Sting. She enjoyed making sure no one distubed him as he did his pre-show ritual of yoga in his jockies. My friend was "all access" and delivered the kosher pickles we had bought in German Town section of Columbus to Mr. Hart. The band passed by and it was time to head out into the crowd. As we headed there straight from a business engagement, I was in a suit amongst the great unwashed, many of whom thought I was Michael Keaton - I'm Batman, I replied. Sat behind Healy and the board and had a grand time. As the encore started, security headed us through the crowd. At one point Healy stopped the guards so he could hear how it sounded from a particular angle. Hustled out to a hotel near Columbus and flew back to reality the next morning.

this was the show we took the wrong exit (really dumb especially since we lived in Columbus and should have known the way) and got stuck in a standstill traffic jam on some back road somewhere. I mean, we sat there for hours! finally we said screw this and turned around and went the right way, but by that time we had missed the opener and most of the first set. they had people directing traffic that way and I guess they didn't care if we sat there all night, cause it was not going anywhere. glad to have made it in but sorry to have missed the pre-show scene cause buckeye was awesome.

I drove from the shore to Buckeye Lake after working all night with no sleep. When I found my camp I was pleased to be next to Mr. Balloon Man. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think this was the show that Traffic opened up for them.....or was it the Voilent Fems..... anyways great set..great show.... great fun...

I believe there was some auto race in the area that caused the traffic jam. I missed the Sting opener as well. We also bought a transmission for my friend's car on the way and almost turned back, but our determination prevailed and we had a great time. I wouldn't change a thing. I never really liked Corina until this show. They really took this jam to a whole new level and the tune weaves its way throughout drums as well. Thank you for a real good time!

only regret I got a little overserved so memories not as clear as ought to be. Foolish Heart really stands out as does Palace at ending. There are some decent aud recordings on archive.org. confirms the show was really really good.

I remember this was my first Dead show and I really wanted to get in and see Sting and the Dead. Couldn't get any tickets in the parking lot, so my buddy and I ended up playing in the drum circle for hours trippin and having a good time. What an experience. Drums, bongo's, guitars and lots of hippies dancing.After that we ended up making it into the Richfield Coliseum show on September 09, 1993. My one and only time to see them, and will never forget it.

This was my first dead show, and I really wanted to get in and see Sting and the dead. I couldn't get any tickets in the parking lot, so my buddy and I ended up playing our drum's and trippin in this huge drum circle out in the woods. What an experience, drums, bongo's, guitars and lots of hippies dancing. After this I finally seen the dead at the three day show at Richfield Coliseum September 08, 1993 and will never forget it.

This was an excellent show. I was studying for a drug test to land a job and went to Buckeye Lake thinking I would be able to control myself. Ha was I wrong. This show was very emotional for me. Had all my good friends with me very pleasent memories. Sting opened the show which was fun for me being a fan of the Police. Then the Acid kicked in and everything was beautiful. I knew some people were pissed off that the dead played Surgar Mags but I thought it was magnificiant. Good Times...

I have no regrets other than I dont still have a copy of this show

Sting was a great opening act, he even busted out some Marley. This show was when I got hooked to So Many Roads and Lazy River Road. Always loved Brokedown as an encore.

Last time I saw Jerry truly shine

Having been to Buckeye twice before we left for the show from Columbus at around 11 AM....good thing too...traffic was horrible and we didn't make it to the lot till nearly 5 PM....plenty of time for some balloons and shrooms, though....it was a GREAT show.....

Cheryl This I thought would be my last show ever, just because I was having a kid? Well I did go into labor at this show but made it until Uncle John's Band. What was crazy was I 70 was backed up from all the "non-deadheads" there to see Sting and we had to go country roads to the hospital!!! We made it and she is 16 now and her name is Izzi.

I will never forget Jerry playing an excellent, emotional "Foolish Heart" very early. It was raining sideways and pelting Jerry in the face as he sang without even compromising his posture or style. Rain drops dripping off the bottoms of his glasses. It was amazing and one of the most beautiful Dead momets I have experienced. Also a little scared of electrification. If you plant ice, you're gonna harvest wind...

I remember cooking out in the parking lot. I had all kinds of meat on the grill. I had burgers, steaks, chicken, and ribs. For some reason most of the dead heads that walked by me were vegetarians. I couldn't give it away no matter how hard I Tried. I was very disappointed that my friends went in early to see the opening act who I think was sting. Earlier they told me they were all hungry so I put the food on the grill. They left to go inside and I had an entire girl full of food with nobody to eat it. That's okay because I saved it and we ate it the next morning.

1971 was the last time I'd seen them, until this show, 22 years later. The weather was perfect and the music was excellent. Glad I went.

So I learned from the mistakes I made at the concert the prior year. I made it in and it was a great concert. I don't remember much of it because I was pretty buzzed and it was almost 20 years ago. But I'm listening to a copy of the show that I have on iTunes, and I must have really enjoyed the music because they sound great! :) I do remember the weather was great.

This will always be one of my favorite all-time concerts ever. Sting and the Grateful Dead right here in Central Ohio, and I don't know HOW they did it, but this was the day I graduated from The Ohio State University at Ohio Stadium. Graduating and then having dinner with the folks, and on the way out of the restaurant, mom hands me two bottles of Dom Perignon and a couple champagne flutes, then the girlfriend and I were OFF to Buckeye for a night with Phil droppin bombs and the boys rockin it and Sting and 200,000 of my closest friends. The Grateful Dead were a HUGE part of my unusually long college education, teaching me to care, teaching me what ecology is, teaching me what music and community can be in symbiosis. They taught me how to do mail order, how to drive a VW, how to deal with the police, how to be a good neighbor, how to eat whole foods, how to party responsibly, how to tread lightly. They taught me how to be a capitalist, how to be a communist, how to dance, how to jam, and how to get to the next show. SO many of my lifelong friends I met through the Dead. They taught me what REAL love is, and they taught me to open my mind. Of COURSE they played my graduation party. ;-] My dear, sweet, God, THANK YOU for giving me this moment and this memory. Sting opened. Fun show, fuzzy for me too

I am commenting because I just learned that this year's Jubilee (2018), which is being held at "Buckeye Lake" (now called Legend valley), will have DSO playing this very same show! Luckily, me and my son are going to enjoy that. But back in 92, a bunch of us were there, and I still remember the parking lot scene, which was madcap. Hill over dale of heads, all parked and camped in a willy-nilly mish-mash that is no longer allowed these days. We were way in the back, had our tix but never made it out for Sting, which we thought was an odd choice for the opening band, anyway. So after his set, I remember we joined a long dusty parade of tripped out lot-sters, who un-steadily shambled toward the venue, and walking directly into the late summer sun which was beginning to set... in itself, this became like a long trip to shambala. I would not have been surprised to see Wavy Gravy leading the crew. So our arrival to the bowl was almost ecstatic. It has a majestic pine-lined ridge when you first walk in. Oh yea, the show was great, too!

Just graduated high school. My and my girl saw Jurassic Park on Friday night, then drove down to this show the next day. What a whallop of culture that affected the rest of my life, in that 24 hour time frame.

I had a bright red 90's VW vanagon. How perfect for the parking lot experience.
