Post Card Message to the GD
Hello friends!I am new to the website, and this might be out of line but I am looking for your help. I am studying architecture, and my recent assignment was designing a post card that would describe home... This touched me at a profoundly emotional level, since I feel that I am very much "in between places": I was born and raised in Eastern Europe, but I haven't been there in about 7 years; I lived in Maryland with my husband for about 5 years, and we moved together to New England 2 years ago. We separated 6 months after the move, and I now have a roomate situation, while pursuing my degree... The past couple of years have been tumoltuous, and therefore I feel that I do not have a home... except for the music of the Grateful Dead. I was not born in a time or place that allowed me to ever see a true Grateful Dead show, but the spirit, the acceptance and the love I feel while listening to their music has trully given me the support of a family. Going to festivals and shows, meeting beautiful people and most of all beeing touched by the music have been life changing events.I regain direction and hope in life and mankind. So when it came to designing a post card describing home, I though of the Grateful Dead. This is where I need your help. If you were to write a post card to the GD, what would you say? Thank you for taking the time of reading my lenghty post, and I am looking forward to hear what you would say. Sincerely, Delia-May

jamasutra new cd is out Jas obrecht review
First, a quick background check: Barry “The Fish” Melton played lead guitar on the San Francisco scene’s first psychedelic record, and went on to play the Monterey and Woodstock festivals. His new “neo-psychedelic” release with Parisian guitarist/vocalist Stephan Missri and band is, in a word, extraordinary. It’s trippy, politically and socially conscious, and brilliantly played. Deadheads – Garcia freaks in particular – will love Melton and Missri’s flowing solos, epitomized by the Jerry-esque joyride of “Jamasutra Mantra.” Like the early Allman Brothers Band and Steve Hunter-Dick Wagner with Lou Reed, Melton and Missri create intriguing two-guitar interplay without venturing into overkill. They freak-out Hendrix-style on “Vert,” and Barry resurrects his wicked vibrato of yore for “Le Dernier Homme en Ville.” His sea shanty-cum-ecological call to arms “Shady Grove” recalls his Country Joe & The Fish era and then segues into one of the album’s best jams. International feels abound. Algerian-born Missri sings mostly in French, with a smooth, smoky voice. Rhythms and melodies seamlessly embrace rock, blues, psychedelic, Middle Eastern, and African influences. “This was truly a trans-Atlantic effort for me,” says Melton, who’s worked as a public defender in northern California. “Much of my early music was influenced by Middle Eastern music, which becomes immediately apparent were you to see me with Country Joe in the 1967 movie Monterey Pop.” Danish bassist Charles Jannic and French drummer Christophe Rossi excel at everything – hats off to these guys, as well as to Melton and Missri for their fine, fine playing and producing. Order this Seafood Records release at www.barrymelton.com and www.jamasutra.com.

Howdy,Thanks Marye, yeah Ive contacted Norton Simon and others but they wont do appraisals. That is the direction I am heading in.The locals here in Reno have no clue or desire to pursue.I figure there might be a Bay area art dealer who might be a better source.I need some leads before I go over the hill to SF.Anything would be welcome. Thanks again George.

Howdy,I have this photo by Thomas Weir ( not Bobs brother) that I have been doing some research on.It seems he is the same artist that took the back album photo on AOXOMOXOA. It is an artists proof dated 1967.From my searches I have found it in a few museums. The picture is a framed print titled Renne Oracle.I know Mr Weir was not as prolific as the big 5,Mouse,Griffen ect.It was givin to me as a gift from the late Chesley Milliken. I know it has some value,I just need to be pointed in the right direction to someone that has some knowledge on this subject. It might be for sale if I can find a realistic value. Hopefully this is the correct forum to post this.

For all you Kindle owners out there, I recently published "The Hallucinogenic Bible", a novel, on Amazon.com. It is a fictionalized narrative of 3 college kids following their favorite band around the country for 4 weeks. It is based on 20 plus years of following the Dead, Phish, and Dead-related bands, and in the course of the narrative, it discusses the scene, music, drugs, cops, friendships, and spirituality entailed in it all. I'm a fan of Dee's art and was lucky enough to work with her for a couple of years on an erstwhile client's newsletter. It was a treat to see what she'd come up with for each issue, and the Valentine art sits above my desk to this day. No doubt the resemblance of the dog to my Rex has something to do with it of course, but Dee rocks.

I have a mint condition, never been played Filmore West 1969 Complete 11 disk Limited Edition Set. Sadly, I must sell it to pay my bills. Wanted to give the true fans an opportunity at it before I put it on Ebay. A box set sold last week for $430 on ebay, so I'm asking $375 or best offer. These don't come up often! My set is number 4 thousand something, I'll double check and report later. I'm psyched to give this box set a great new home to someone who really wants it. Thanks! ~Jenny

I have a Yairi GY Jerry Garcia model acoustic guitar with built in pick ups etc...It's 9 years old and in pretty decent condition with a new high quality case case. I would be prepared to sell it for around half of what I paid for it. I paid 950 euro for it originally. Anyone interested can send me a pm and I can email them a photo and talk about it. Cheers! I have the following equipment that I'd consider trading for the "right" split window bus: 1 Sound Devices 744T Portable, Four-Track Audio Recorder - less than 1 yr old 1 matched pair of schoeps CCM4 cardiod microphones (purchased in 2000) 1 Schoeps M100C Miniature Stereo Mounting Bar for XY and ORTF recording 1 pair Schoeps A20 Elastic suspension mounts 1 AETA PSP3 Portable stereo pre-amp 1 Bogen Mic Stand 1 Pelican hardshell carrying case tons of cables, adapters, etc... and possibly a tascam mkII dat unit I'm not too picky about the 'type' of bus except that it must be a split window ('67 or earlier). I'd take a camper if the interior is (mostly) there, a double cab "truck" (not a huge fan of the single cabs), 11,13, 15, 21, 23 windows bus, panel bus/van, ... As for what the "right" bus is.... I'm not looking for something that has been restored. My "ideal" bus would be one that has minor rust issues, original paint, original seats/interior, original motor/trans (but they don't need to be running), never been "wrecked" (minor dents are ok), solid frame, etc. This could be a great opportunity for someone to get a 6k-9k rig for "free" if they convince their parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles to give up that old bus that has been sitting in their garage/barn for the last 30+ years... your idea of a piece of shit may be my dream bus.... send me the details/photos and we'll talk. I'm not in any rush - in the meantime I'll see ya FOB!

I create in many styles. You can see a fair amount of my work here. But if you want the whole scope, check out the site that holds my digital work. When an image is in view, click....When it's open, click again, and you shall have the full sized version. This site is NOT strictly Dead related stuff (though the jam band work is my favorite to create), but also contains corporate work, logo designs, illustration, portraiture, and abstract creations. Have a look, and contact me if there is something special ordered you may like. There might be that special someone in your life come birthdays and/or the holidays who you want to surprise with a detailed portrait complete with mind bending background. Everything from t-shirt design to brochures, biz cards, flyers, the works. With over 25 years of experience and ideas from the universe to the dust of the Grand Wazoo, I'll make you a happy camper. ; ) And reasonable rates to boot! I don't know if I'm in the right thread or not, but I have talked to the people at the store and they're telling me to just make this announcement in one of the Forums. So here goes, I just recently acquired a vast collection of Grateful Dead albums and 45's. I also have some autographed memorabilia. I tried putting a few things on EBAY where I have been selling for the past eight years, but that didn't seem to be the right marketplace for some of the stuff. And as many of you already know, if you want to sell on EBAY, you'd better be prepared to give the stuff away. Now, I'm not looking to make a fortune on this stuff, but I would like to recover at least my initial investment and possibly make a few bucks as an end result. So, if you're looking for any of the old wax or anything with signatures, give me a shout at bennyboop@hotmail.com and let me know what you're looking for. If I have it, we can talk price, if I don't have it...I'll let you know up front. Just a sample of the many things I do have are an autographed copy of the album Jerry Garcia by the great one himself, an autographed "Mars Hotel" cover with record, an autographed "Go To Heaven" album with record and an autographed album cover of "Anthem of the Sun" (I don't think the record is inside it though). All four of these items are nicely framed and ready to be shipped...I can furnish photos if you want a look-see. I also have some promotional "DeadHead" records and cover artwork, the super rare 1973 green vinyl LP "Flood Damaged" and a whole lot more. So if this interests anyone..holler at me and if I'm violating any of the rules of the website, please let me know.
