No, Bob I'm just kiddin' about that. But a couple months ago MOTB wizards started working on my tapes of 4 shows from 'from back in the day', including that 7-8-78 show. I was road-tripping and hauling around my Nak 550 into shows and I was lucky enough to tape 2-3-78, 7-5-78 and 7-7/8-78. And soon MOTB will seed all 4 on etree. So, to go along with the Dead's maiden Red Rocks voyage (enhanced by the sonic sorcerers at MOTB) as well as the Omaha '78 show (and there is NO soundboard in the vault on this one) along that Madison '78 show (that one is a DP, but this is that entire show). So anyway, you old tapers out there, look through your old master cassettes, you might find a treasure there and then get in touch with wwwmotb.org. who caon bring it back to life, so we can pass it along! Take care, Tim

Although this was the 2nd GD concert I ever attended (6/22/1969 being the 1st), I consider this 9/8/1973 the "1st" mainly because I don't remember much about 6/22/1969 & I was taken to Central Park. 9/8/1973 on the other hand, I planned for months and months!!! I feel honored to reseed my "Hush DAT Tape" again, this concert is very special to me!!! Enjoy!!! <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> *Believed to be indirectly from Dick Latvalla or Rob Eaton via a well known author who's name I will not say (I think I got it 5/1999?). I was told not to circulate it, hence "Hush Tape". Then when Dick died, others started circulating it ("Honey Vine" 12/14?/1999) so I did also a few weeks later on usenet from my sourced DAT which I edited then seeded in 1999. *My Original 5/1999? Bob,Thanks for doing this. This list is current as of when? I notice that Sept., Oct. Nov. 1972 are not on it. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

For the updated list and I would recomend the Excel spreadsheet he has to all, that is how I keep track of my shows. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

on CBs list, no wonder I've been busy years not represented are 65, 66, 75,76, 79, 84, 86,87,88, 90, 91, 92, 93,94,95 not that I am chomping at the bit for shows from many of these years If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

'76 is already overrepresented in official releases, so no need for a vine there. If 90's or late 80's shows are never vined, I wouldn't care. Of the non-represented years on vines, '79 is the only one I'd like to get some shows from. Problem with '79 is that much of the year does not circulate (or perhaps even exist) on SBD.

dstache, I do generally agree, though those Hampton 89 shows were a pleasant surpriseI was making just more a comment that making a call for those years. I have to say that those later years may be when I could really go for the Road Trips concept I would go for a 73 vine, or more 68 and 69. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

Would be great if people used the following format in the vines so you juts have to go to last post to figure out where things are... Works well on the philzone vines. first name - email address [status] where staus is either "email out to next person" or "in mm/dd" or "out mm/dd" will make life alot easier for viners.... Marty

vine is the one that he is talking about, Stu. And he is just giving you a heads up that when you get the shows and completed riping and burning that you could send them his way. I don't know why he put KFFP (should be KFFM), but vondinkle is after you on that Keith's vine. It will sort out. Take care, tim

folks, I've had an inquiry about vining one of the Nassau '90 shows, specifically 3/29. I'm a little surprised to find that such a vine doesn't already exist. Thoughts?

........as is the Birdsong and and the Help/Slip/Frank on WAN is from 30th I had wondered about that. I don't really want to vine those shows with those tracks missing for two reasons. a) I count Without a Net as a compilation not an incomplete show and b) I discovered that Without a Net is not actually available in the store here! Based on that I had decided to proceed. If Marye wants to adjudicate I will proceed accordingly!

Been around the scene since 1980, goin' to shows and from 83 on touring and taping. Now about 5 Phil/Ratdog shows a year....now collecting/trading cd's. 2 questions: 1. Why are some people reluctant to post shows on archive.org? 2. Why does it seems more shows around are being uploaded to sites in .flac instead of .mp3? Thanks! Steve ..even a blind man knows when the sun is shinin'...you can feel it!..

1. Last I heard, archive.org had suspended uploading of Dead shows, but I'm not sure if the ban is still on.2. mp3 is a convenience format, not a high fidelity format, and is not used when sound quality is valued. I use mp3 for my Old Time Radio collection, but that's mostly spoken-word material recorded in the 30's and 40's (BTW, archive.org has a fantastic assortment of public-domain OTR shows available for free download). mp3 sacrifices some of the file's information in favor of maximum compression, and is therefore referred to as a "Lossy" format, whereas FLAC (short for "Free Lossless Audio Codec") and SHN (which I believe is short for "Shorten") are lossless compression formats, which are capable of restoring exact copies of the original file when decompressed. The down side is that they require much larger files, which puts them out of reach of dail-up users, rendering mp3 the only workable alternative over dail-up. Even then, downloading a whole show is quite a chore. I downloaded a whole show on mp3 from archive.org a few years ago, and it took me several hours a night over 3 or 4 nights to get it all, and after all that you can hear "swishing" all the way through it, which is an artifact of the mp3 compression. You should check out The Vineyard on this site, where The Rhinos have graciuosly allowed show trading by mail- slow but good! -Tommo
