    "The Terminal Zone"

I know people were talking about this 15 or more years ago, and you've probably already seen, but your memories have been validated. Promised Land is on the boxed set version of this show that was released a few years back.

Omaha 7/5/78 Phil and Friends 7/5/08
Just in case no one else has noticed, I thought I would point out that Phil's appearance in Sioux City, IA at Saturday in the Park is the 30th anniversary of GD's last visit in Omaha. FWIW. I'm counting on everyone that was at the last Omaha show to please go to Sioux City if they can. After all, it's a FREE show!!! I realize gas is expensive and Sioux City is 100 miles from Omaha, but we need to represent!!! I'll see all of you Omaha people there!!! Look for me in the taper section. I'll be the guy with the tie-dye on.

I just had a discussion with a friend that also attended this show and he verified the fact that although there is no encore listed for this show, there was in fact an encore. The band left the stage after "Around " and the house lights came on shortly thereafter but the crowd wasn't going anywhere. After what seemed like an eternity, the lights dimmed and they came back and played "Promised Land". I have roundabout proof of that in the concert review the next day in the local newspaper. The reviewer obviously didn't know the song well enough, because he stated that the band came out one more time and played "The Terminal Zone" with "feeling". I'm sure that any other tapers that night broke down their equipment before that band returned as I did, so no recorded proof exists, unless Healy or someone else from the band recorded it.

Was indeed the encore, even though I didn't record it as well. I was there and it was a great show and the band did play that encore. I have submitted it to this site for correction before, but I guess since there isn't 'proof', they aren't going to correct the record. So it goes. The next two shows were the Dead's first Red Rocks excursions and they were definately on a roll. Great stuff, from a great time with the Dead. Word has it that this show is not "in the vault'. And I did send my 7-5-78 master casstte off to get 'remastered' at the Mouth of the Beast. Soon it will be back in better shape than ever, and I can't wait. There are a couple of other stories about that show that I should recount sometime.
