I plug my home theater thing into the 'puter, or use ear bud ear phones, and it sounds grate. they got audience recordings available for free downloads, but I never learnt how to do that. peace.

How do I get Dead Shows off the Internet?
Hi, I am 26 and really love Jerry. He is my idol. A lot of people say that I am too young to love this music. But I disagree. I am looking to build a really strong collection of Dead music. I used to trade tapes for a while but I figure with the internet there should be databases of music at my fingertips. Is there anyone out there that can help me out? I have been to sugarmegs but the shows do not have track breaks in them. So If I wanted to burn them on cd or put them on an mp3 player I would have to listen to the whole show. I have also tried to get the program furthurnet to work but I am no computer genius and I cant get it to work right. Please help me out.

Hello everyone, Can anyone tell me the dates of the cancelled Ventura shows in 1986? They were scheduled to play there soon after Garcia went into the coma. While I'm at it -- does anyone remember the date that the news of his coma got into the newspapers? In case you're curious, this is fact-checking for a story I'm writing. Thanks!

We got the call about the coma on the night of Thursday, July10; the shows were going to be Saturday and Sunday July 12 and 13. I presume papers probably got word on July 11 and ran it on July 12 (but I don't actually know...)

OK.Does anyone know which CD this is? In the very beginning of the show before the band starts playing someone is on stage introducing the band members. When he gets to Garcia he says "on sometimes guitar Jerry Garcia and on some other times guitar Bob Weir ladies and gentlemen for the deadheads of the world the Grateful Dead". It's one of the commercial releases I just can't remember which one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am in search of a CD with music by the GD. What I remember from the top of my head is that it was published by an Italian label and has one single track. The title of both should be IT. The article said that it is a mix from a number of recordings of something long and "nameless" the Dead used to play quite often (which does not help a lot) and simply called "IT". any ideas, suggestions ? andré

You are a lucky chimp, boffo! Thanks for sharing yor good news. These are likely to be files of live shows. .shn is a format for compressing and storing music files as data without losing data each time it is copied (=lossless). Most digital music trading uses this format (or .flac which does the same thing). What can you do with them? Here is my suggestion. You will need a fairly decent computer though 1. Find out what you've got. In each directory of shn files there should hopefully be a .txt. file which provides the show details. Open these files and and make a list of what you've got. 2. Some computer media player programmes will play shn files directly (foobar2000 can be downloaded for free) 3 Or you can download a package called 'Traders Little Helper' for free that will help you convert the shn files to a more accessible format for your own use. .wav for burning onto CDs or MP3 for ipods and such. 4. But you should not lose or wipe the shn files as these are what collectors and traders value most as a lossless source for making their own copies. A forum on this site provides much much more advice on this Forums>Deadheads>Tapers>Technical Discussions As for sharing, well you could post a list on the 'Tape Trading' Forum here Forums>Deadheads>Tapers>Tape Trading Topic and invite people to trade with you (for the SHN files). You should not sell them, but you can ask for help with blank CDs and postage. or you could put put some of your treasure trove as vines through this site Forums>Deadheads>Tapers>The Vineyard or you could upload rare shows to a file sharing site for the whole world to find or you could offer the whole lot to someone else to sort out, maybe in return for useable copies once they are processed that's some ideas! Good luck.

I am kinda new, too. And in case none of the seasoned folks steps up and points you straight to the show you must have (and in case the shop on dead.net does not have it), you might go to http://bt.etree.org That's a website where you can download a few large harddrives of Grateful Dead and other music. The files all are in lossless formats (shn and flac). And in case you are not familiar with these, have a look at what cosmicbadger wrote above. Or check what other seasoned people have posted about it under Forums> Tapers> Technical-Discussions. At etree you will also find links to sites where you can download the software you need to decode the lossless ones. In case you already know about these things, you can go straight to http://bt.etree.org/?search=&cat=8 That's a list of almost 500 files (said to contain more than 1,300 shows) in an amazingly unchronological order. So Happy wading and good luck ! Maybe prepare to loose your last silver dollar on blank CDs. And never let them catch you, no ... andré p.s. : I have read that the GD 02/11/70 show is with Duane and Greg Allman. Have not gotten there. But ... one of them midnights

Hi Bob, after getting active on the eurotraders mailinglist yesterday (thanks for founding it), I asked about "IT" and within no time some happy mail bombing began. I got dizzy and then ordered Grayfolded, after checking about the difference to Greyfolded and although each average human will have no reason to label a one hours mix of Dark Star "IT", beause the base of one of the two Greyfolded discs has a title since the first GD live LP. andré

I chose Robert Hunter, I'm have some problems with finding biographical information on him. Does anybody know of any accurate website or book with good information on him. I read what was on the site but i need things more like "Robert Hunter was born ____ and had 3 dogs and a hamster" any help would be very appreciated.

I wanted to know if there has been a compilation of very exquisite Space jams? Is this the best forum for this? I want to either find a compilation or put one together, just enough for maybe 1 -2 CD's. Maybe people here can tell me their favorite space jam. I could listen and put it on a CD or whatever. I thought of it being a nicer way for me to relax. It seems since I play the Grateful Dead quite a bit, I'm always singing it outloud and with the band and what not, but when Drums come on I feel like a drummer, but Space I notice I like to relax. One such effort is called Infrared Roses compiled by Bob Bralove from 89/90 shows I think. Happens to be a discussion topic on Eurotraders at the moment. I am not sure if the GD store offers it, but you can pick it up on Amazon.................. ......and they might actually succeed in sending it to you (he added wistfully)

Hello. I need a miracle. I have had the 100 dead songs poster for a while. It is in my cubicle, as is a statue of Jerry, to bring me serenity during work hours. However it is now a source of torment. I can't get all 100 songs. Is there a solution to this poster anywhere? I can get about 90 of them. The last 10 are killing me. What song is that spider from? I just can't think of it. Any help will be grately apprecited. Thanks. Gratefuldad

ha, ha....I haven't seen it for a while, but I do have a guess on the spider.....For some reason, the album 'Jerry Garcia', where it's just he and Bill Kruetzmann playing on the whole thing, comes to mind. Maybe a song from that album? Now you got me wondering;) Justin and I would put that CD on really loud in his grandfather's garage on Halloween night and just let it play through the valley in Mill Valley, CA. The NFA - GDTR segue on "Grateful Dead" is from (I believe) a show in 1971 at the Manhatten Center. The CD (even the bonus CD in the box set) has a version that cuts off right after Goin Down The Road wraps up, but I have heard a version that continues, in a much slower pace, for another 2 - 3 minutes, then segues back into Not Fade Away. Does anyone either know, definitively, where I can find that "extended long" version, or know of a site that I could query to try to get to the bottom of it?

You can find JGB, Phil & Friends, RatDog, and all manners of transportive aural Dead (and other) music for the cost of mailing ($2 and up). Check it out, you will be glad you did!

I used to have a show on tape years ago, and it is long gone. It had my favorite version of Lost Sailor and Saint of Circumstance. I believe Lazy lightning came right before or possibly after. It has been rolling through my head for days now, and I need to find it. During Lost Sailor, Bob asks, "Where do you want to go now, what do you want to do now?" Does anyone remember this, and what show it came from? Thanks!
